INFORMATIONS sur cette vidéo A LIRE ABSOLUMENT ###
Anne-Marie and Xavier HUBERT-BRIERRE along with Michel GUISS DJOMOU have set up very large mirrors in a forest in the west of Gabon (Central Africa) In this natural and uncontrolled environment numerous camera traps have been placed in front of each of these mirrors in order to film animals’ reactions to their own reflection from different angles and at different distances. Over the past few months an imposing male leopard has become addicted to his reflection. The leopard's frequent rubbing of his reflection in the mirror has coated the mirror with the oils that protect his fur, (Panthera pardus) from of his paw pads and drool. The dirtied mirror makes it difficult for the camera traps to film a clear image of the animals' reflections. The camera trappers must wash the mirrors frequently in order to not miss out on exceptional footage which could be obscured due to dirty mirrors as in the case of this duel between two silverback gorillas. Robin Alcorn translation.
Gorillas are basically calm animals, they are usually led by a dominant male gorilla, the adult male gorilla will change the color of the fur on his back to silver that's why it is called a silverback. If a silverback gorilla sees a silverback that is not from his group he will show his strength by standing straight without making eye contact, if an opponent shows a challenge by hitting the chest or hitting the ground they will start a fight, the losing silverback will leave the group he led, and the winning silverback will take the territory and the females of the losing silverback, the silverback will only take care of the children of his offspring so the winning silverback will kill the children of the losing silverback.(Calvin Augusta, comment dated 16/10/2021 to my video • Gabon: This Silverback... )
(Calvin Augusta, commentaire du 16/10/2021 à ma vidéo • Gabon: This Silverback... )

Well noticed! Please watch my video kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYPFmGacdqplibc and you will find this chilling scream at 4:12 *The silverback scream is meant to scare off a rival roaming around his family as one can see in the mirror a fast moving silvery grey silhouette on all fours resembling a gorilla or perhaps an alpha male chimpanzee?* *Or this scream of the head of the family means either a call to order to one of his females who has wandered off with her child into the jungle, out of her control (protection) zone. The next cry is the child refusing to obey its mother to join the other family members around the mirror.* Keep watching the other videos on my channel and on't forget to read the description attached to each of them kzbin.infovideos

I love the reflection experiments. Animals are extremely intelligent and don't think enough people give them the credit they deserve. I'm glad that these are done. I even noticed in one where one of the gorillas was looking towards the camera, almost like he knew he was being watched but he still was trying to figure out the mirror. I love this kinda stuff!

He does not look straight in the eyes the image of a silverback in the mirror as he wants to avoid challenging this rival entered into his domain to steal some of his females. (eye’s contact in silverback gorillas = fight) ). In front of the mirror, 6 cameras were placed to film or photograph the detected animals from different angles. Also this silverback, does not look at the reflection in the mirror, but looks in the opposite direction where the cameras are fixed and so he don't look especially at one camera . Please read my comment under its Custom Thumbnail on "SHOW MORE". I explain this behavior in silverback gorillas. After watching each one of my 160 videos published on my channel: kzbin.infovideos

Non-recognition of self in a mirror is not a lack of intelligence. In apes, as in mammals or as in humans, self-recognition in a mirror is not innate. It is the result of the more comfortable learning in the mirror at home among young humans in the company of their parents who have done this training and who have the words to explain to their young child the properties of the mirror. This learning in the mirror can last several weeks and it is only around the age of 2 years that the young human understands that in the mirror it is not a play partner who makes the same movements as he does. Among chimpanzees or gorillas, in the insecurity of the jungle learning with his parents who have not done this and who do not speak, this is much more difficult even for intelligent individuals. Some animal species perform inconsistently on the mirror test. Chimps and orangutans have unambiguously passed, but they don’t always. In captivity learning in the mirror seems easier and therefore seems to allow better results in mirror self-recognition. An Asian elephant named Happy passed in 2006 after staring into a really big mirror, and examining a mark on her head with her trunk-but two other elephants at her sides failed. No African elephant has passed the mirror test (Gallup mark test, mirror self-recognition test MSR). No dog, no home cat, no lion or no leopard. Why would we be attacked if our arrival was loud enough to warn the animals of our presence and so that they would not be surprised by arrival of the mirror cleaners. Leopards, chimpanzees and gorillas are grateful to us and to Michel for the regular cleaning of the 6 mirrors placed in their region. So they prefer to wait nearby until we have finished our work and left the mirror area to come back to observe perfectly either their own image, that of a rival or that of a female leopard in heat. I rely a lot on my wife's very good hearing to detect the presence of animals and to avoid surprising them. For example, a mother elephant (with baby) who has heard us from a distance will warn us to turn back, while a mother with her cub, surprise by our presence nearby will react more severely. Look at this beautiful river crossing location: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5zQgXWiabODrJo Its our choice to pursue our overwhelming and somewhat dangerous passion. The installation of a mirror generates noise and therefore the animals do not stay close by. On the other hand, when my wife and I alone in the Gabonese forest, we collect the memory cards from our cameras, clean our mirrors, change the batteries, clean the lenses, remove the fallen branches their field of vision or the vines growing against their lenses, walk up the bed of streams or small rivers to find new areas where animals cross to install new cameras, I rely a lot on my wife's very good hearing to detect the presence of animals and to avoid surprising them. In felids, lions are genetically programmed to live in large family groups (prides), while leopards are genetically programmed to live alone. So this male leopard doesn't feel alone and dont search an odourless mate. He doesn't need any companions. He only meets females during the mating season. To invite the females in heat, he makes a guttural sound called " sawing call ". This call also warns rival males not to enter his domain: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iH3YpGeYibytnK8 On our KZbin channel kzbin.infovideos are published more than 160 videos captured by our trap cameras fixed in the Gabon jungle. It is the result of the more comfortable training in the mirror at home among young humans in the company of their parents who have done this training and who have the words to explain to their young child the properties of the mirror. Among primates, éléphants and felids, in the insecurity of the jungle learning with his parents who have not done this and who do not speak, this is much more difficult even for intelligent individuals. To date: only Humans, Orangutans, Chimpanzees, Bonobos, Gorillas (blackback), Rhesus Macaques, Bottlenose Dolphins, Asian Elephants, Orcas, Grey parrots (African/Gabon grey Parrots) and Magpies have shown the ability to recognize their own reflections after an even long training in the mirror for some ones. Three asian elephants in captivity at the Bronx Zoo in New York were standing in front of an huge mirror with each one two crosses just been drawn on their forehead. A white cross and a colorless cross. A only one named Happy, has touched with her trunk repeatedly the painted white cross but ignored the other colorless painted cross. The test failed with the other two. *No African elephant has so far passed the self recognition test in a mirror. No cat as leopard, tiger or homecat, no dog passed this test.* Please read the description attached to each of my 160 videos published on my KZbin channel you will know very interesting informations about animals reactions front of my mirrors in the jungle kzbin.infovideos

@@XHB06400CANNES ... Wow! Sorry you felt any disrespect or inappropriate intent via my remark. My only intent was a tongue-in-cheek mental reference to so many people that focus on mirrors and selfies. I personally found the cat's interaction with the mirror very interesting. The unique stimulation has to be beneficial for all the jungle creatures. I applaud the focus on the enrichment of the jungle animal residents. Obviously your knowledge of the situation far exceeds mine. That was never questioned. Rather than risk further offending you i will quietly leave this channel. I have always loved animals. Have you been successful in clearly recognizing your own image clearly by leaning over a puddle of rain water, in a pond ? Maybe just your shade on a sunny day? On the water's surface its own image cannot be reflected perpendicularly but laterally. For this reason your neighbour, under some light conditions and some quality from the bottom of the pond, can see distinctly your face but not his own. Thus, an animal cannot clearly see itself in a pond or a puddle and therefore, it cannot learn in the mirror because for it as well as for humans, self recognition in a mirror is not innate. A very long time ago I went to a zoo, and I went with a really religious Christian and my mother (she was my mother‘s friend, who is also super Christian). My favorite animals to observe there were the chimpanzees and orangutans, for obvious reasons. I muttered out loud how could anyone possibly not see the fact that we are closely related, even just looking at a chimp’s ear, and they lost their minds with such an idea. It is so frustrating talking to people who don’t accept evolution, and therefore won’t even accept what is right in front of their eyes.

Drenched by tornadoes, the body covered with insect bites of all kinds (horseflies, gorilla flies, tsetse, black ants, magnan ants etc.) and unfortunately the number of cameras refusing to work increases because of the humidity rate of 95%. Then we do the editing of the videos and write a long description in English which is not our native language and then put them online to show the beauty of Gabonese fauna, talk about poachers, show how elephants who have managed to get away from a wire snare trap, treat the deep cut made by this trap, show how elephants pick mangos, self recognition in mirrors that is not innate both among humans than among primates and other mammals and so on... In felines, lions live in groups called "pride" when it contains males with females and their offspring or "coalition" when it contains only mature males. Leopards, on the other hand, are genetically programmed to live alone in a territory where several females and their immature offspring live alone and separately. *_Have you ever seen images of a leopard couple (male + female) whose female is not in heat, in the estrous state?_* *_Have you ever seen images of a leopard couple whose female is in gestation?_* *_Have you ever seen pictures of a leopard couple being accompanied by their offspring?_* *_If the leopard could feel loneliness, why wouldn't he live in a couple?_* So that this male leopard does not feel lonely. He does not need companions. He only meets the females of his territory during the mating season, inviting them to copulate if they are in season. To do so, he emits a guttural sound similar to that of a saw against a log called a "sawing call". This call also warns males from neighbouring territories to keep out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iH3YpGeYibytnK8 On our KZbin channel kzbin.infovideos are published more than 160 home-made videos shot by our trap cameras in the Gabonese jungle. He only meets females during the mating season. To invite females in heat he makes a guttural sound "sawing call". This call warn rival males to keep out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iH3YpGeYibytnK8 Please do not forget to read the description attached to each of our 130 videos published on our channel: kzbin.infovideos

I wonder why this male leopard got so atracted to the mirror, seems that ir is not the reflexion but the feeling of the texture!

The warning to headphone users is clearly mentioned under the thumbnail before the description of the video. Isn't this man risking his safety by cleaning. The mirror where all these animals gather?

The mirrors are mostly near a path for vehicles. Animals flee if they here the sounds of the car. At least i would say that to me again and again if i had to clean there.

Keep watching my videos posted on my channel and read the description attached to each one. You will find very interesting information on the animals' reactions to my mirrors in the jungle: kzbin.infovideos
