Welcome along to our newest car review! And this isn't any used car. This is Andys new shiny 2020 Toyota Corolla Touring Sports. Which replaces his 2013 BMW 320d Touring.
This is our best shot at making a film single handedly whilst covid-19 rules our planet. So please forgive the handheld footage!
Shout out to Ollie and the Toyota team from Swindon for getting the car to me as quick as they could, despite all the shenanigans!
More in depth videos on this car to come, like the self park, and the infotainment!

Hi all, am a taxi driver in Chelmsford. Started back in January this year driving a rented 2015 Prius Active costing me £225 a week!!...... Loved the economy, but, the car itself has 100k miles taxing so is quite worn out seat-wise and a very spartan interior with not even a 12-volt charge port anywhere to be seen and only a 1 amp USB connection in the front of an old aftermarket AM FM JVC radio to plug my phone into. BUT..... Have literally in the last couple of days, bought myself a 2019 1.8 Corolla, Design trim, with just under 18k on the clock.1 owner, full service history, and the car is immaculate inside and out! Will be picking it up at the end of April after I hand back the old Prius at the end of its rental contract..... I CAN'T WAIT! :-p

Like that this car's styling is not as 'bat crazy' as the Prius which I was considering at one point; but just couldn't deal with how it looks. The styling is much better on this and that front does look pretty good. Will consider this car when it come around to replacing my current daily driver. Hope to see the Chaps back together soon. Do love the style and humour of your videos; thanks for the information and entertainment.

Got to agree about the looks. One of these in hatchback form stares at me from the carpark at work. It's joined occasionally by a Lexus LC. Sometimes I don't work and instead contemplate beauty.

I viewed this video some months ago, in fact September 2020, whilst trying to decide on what car to purchase next. I've had Skoda's for some years and have always been more than satisfied with them. Your video made me have a closer look at the Toyota Corolla and eventually had a test drive. Well today I took possession of my new Toyota Corolla Touring Sports (estate) 2.0 hybrid. I am so impressed with this car and not just for the safety features that are standard across the range. I chose the white colour. It looks good and the style of the car is great. The interior is well finished with the black piano design and part leather upholstery. What completes it is the panoramic sunroof. Thank you for sharing your video and appropriate enthusiasm about this car. :)

Unbelievably I too have had Skodas for 15 years, mainly Octavia Diesel 2 litres and have now switched to a Corolla Touring Sports Estate 2.0 litre in White! Great review, fun to watch. Going to pick up 1.8 in precious silver colour in the beginning of January. I’ve been driving my father in-laws TS and fell in love with it. Brilliant and beautiful car inside out. The 1.8 does pretty good job accelerating up 70-80km/h, but from there upwards it does get slow. Most of the time I drive in the city and suburbs, maximum speed limit being 80 km/h , so for me the extra power didn’t feel worth investing over the better economy 1.8 delivers. Greetings from Finland!

In Finland, the new Corolla was the most sold car already last year when it came, and will be again this year. Still, the new car sales numbers being modest overall, there are not that many touring sports out there yet. So, you don’t bump into those every day, which is actually nice.

Great vid! I've just put an order in for one in GR Sport guise. I currently have a Puma ST, and whilst it's such a good planted car, and sounds great, its also a VERY thirsty car! Took one for a test drive earlier in the week, and was blown away by the EV to Engine switch, it was addictive. I took my wife's Aygo in for a service and requested a test drive because I was impressed by the interior quality and looks. I was amazed at how smooth, frugal and spacious it was. CVT - i think when you're accelerating hard is the moment you don't mind a bit of noise anyway. question: what do the wheel paddle thingies do if it's a continuous gearbox? does it just pick certain ratios to mimic a conventional box?
@TwoChapsMotoring
@TwoChapsMotoring 3 жыл бұрын
Whilst a CVT gearbox is almost one long gear. The paddles help the driver to manually shift the car into a higher or lower RPM. This can help with engine braking, or finding the power band when you need it up a hill or for a more involving drive

I have the 2019 version of this car, and the recent Car Play update to the infotainment (much improved!), but I don't get anywhere near mileage. Usually low 50's. Once or twice I've achieved low 60's, but only on short journeys when the battery happens to be well charged, but I also often see only high 40's, especially in the winter. I don't have a heavy right foot, I don't know what I do wrong, or whether the car's not quite right. I've asked Toyota about it and they say it's normal. Still, like you, I love the car. It just doesn't do *quite* the advertised mileage.

I know the Toyota is going to be slower (booo 😞 ), but it appears much better equipped. What I'm wondering is what your real world fuel costs are? How many miles does it do to a full tank on average? I've got a 2014 BMW 2014 320d touring, and get around 50mpg. It's done 20K in 6.5 years and, as you've done, I'm thinking of a Toyota Corolla estate. So you can be assured I found you review very informative and helpful. However what I would have liked, instead of the Werther's distraction, was a bit more information, e.g. Does it have USB outlets in the back and boot, is the USB outlet in the front, which you used to connect a phone, the only outlet in the front. Is there one on the dash for a windscreen camera, or do you have to use a multi USB socket hanging out of the dash? And a bit of time showing the Satnav screen which looks a bit jaded. and what it looks like if you Zoom in and out. Many thanks Noel

Thanks for this great review. I am on my 11th Toyota having had new versions of the Camry Mk IV and Corollas right from 1980. Currently have a '67 plate Avensis Design, which is awesome. (One of the last to be built). That's it 2 Chaps, I'm getting a 2.0 Corolla Sports next, but in red, mind you the blue looks good. I had a Volvo S60 in the midst of these, and at 11k miles everything went wrong. Piece of junk. Got rid of it inside 12 months. Back to Toyota. :)

I love everything about this car and I'm seriously considering swapping my Seat Ateca for it but for one small but important niggle, there's no ski hatch in it, why not? I've never been skiing and don't intend to but this feature is so practical even if just for carrying a length of timber. For me though, the everyday use for it is so that I can have the dog in the load area in his carry-cage and he can see us in the cabin of the car (and we can tell him to shut up if needed), he's not left in darkness with the parcel shelf in place and basically we're all happy. Surely it wouldn't cost Toyota much to do it but the lack of the hatch may force me to look elsewhere.

@@TwoChapsMotoring ok. Thx. I ask because I test drove a RAV4 hybrid a while ago and was really put off by the road and wind noises . Same goes for a Honda CR-V hybrid. You can argue both cars have a tall body and there for catch a lot of wind . But for example didn’t had that in the Skoda kodiaq. So it seems to be a typical Japanese thing . Which is a shame because my father has a 2013 avensis and it is super reliable so would like to buy a Toyota as well . But if this one is reasonably quiet when I test drive it I might consider it. I feel it’s just something Japanese carmakers should pay more attention to, especially for the European market . Or maybe they save that for their luxury brands.
