I used to love this show in middle school/high school but now looking at it as a college educated adult, Tyra always talked down to her guest and tried to reiterate why her opinion was the ultimate truth. This episode is about the foolish things women do that "lead to rape". Rapists lead to rape. To dedicate a 43 minute show to how women "get too drunk" is retroactive and not helpful, bc people shouldn't be violently assaulting one another in the first place. Also, the leading questions she always asks "There are 3 pictures of serial murderers and rapists. Which one is the cutest" is SOOO degrading and not a learning moment. The guest was extremely naive and also played a part in the"victim-blaming narrative", but the thing would have been to educate her that its not women's fault if they are assaulted. Sadly, we do live in a world where women have to take certain precautions in all situations, but I think every party involved went about explaining this incorrectly.
@DamienHurts10 жыл бұрын
I think that was a shady move to have three men in those pictures being all murderers. She was obviously going to pick one of them. Tyra should have put a picture of a normal guy in there to really test the theory properly. Also, it's easier to judge someone by their eyes when they are in front of you and moving and looking around. Not saying I agree with this very odd woman who speaks like a baby but I just wanted to put that out there.
@AntiLinzy10 жыл бұрын
she did have the option not to pick any of the three; tyra basically proved her point. you can't judge anyone by their eyes alone. what you see on the outside can be totally different than what goes on inside.

I lost some respect for tyra to attack the women. I understand the women was naive but at the same time a person becomes closed when there getting attacked. You humiliated her instead of asking questions and not judging, you called her names and judged her full on. If she wants to be closed let her you can't make someone open up because there choosing not to listen. The only thing you can do is give advice and tips for when she's in a situation like that. Yelling at her and calling her names won't do anything and she'll still be in grave danger. I have no hate for tyra but this made me lose a bit of respect for her.

+Aubrey Brown Have you ever convinced anyone in a discussion after you start to call them names? Especially the dumber people? If you start being harsh on someone that you have not a single grain of power over you will get nowhere, and that is exactly what happens on the show. They call her names and she immediatly stops caring about anything the "specialists" have to say. Also she has a very strong character since it is difficult to convince her. People with weak personalities are easily impressed by everything like for example the celebrities they are talking to, the docters. She isn't phased at all by any of it. Now I don't say she is right and has a preposterous amount of faith in her ridiculous ability but she does certainly not have a weak character either. No one in this comment has defended the girls opinion at all. Most people think Tyra and her specialist could have had a discussion with her instead of just being rude to her, since that clearly did not help.
@xandara759 жыл бұрын
But you can't be stubborn if you have a weak charachter xD the definition of having a strong character is to be hard to break, that can be seen as difficult to convince and as to resist a lot of pressure.

Not even close. First off, they are two completely different things. Secondly, it is telling you that there are people out there who WILL punch you and you must know this to be able to protect yourself, but punching and being a serial murderer/rapist are two completely different things, as it is the serial killers/rapists SKILL to appear to be charming, funny, intelligent, and normal to gain your trust, to manipulate you, etc. Murder is like their job to them, whereas someone thats going to punch you in the face doesn't care what you think of them and had to have been angry and was being an asshole prior to them throwing a punch at someone.

Ok! The reason why Tyra put up three murders is because she wanted to make a point that she actually chose a murderer when she claims that she is able to separate who is good and who is bad. If she had what she claims she would have said that all three of them are murders. Easy if she has the ability. But she didn't!! She didn't take that open option! If she had the ability she claims she would not have felt the pressure to choose any of the three. But since she doesn't she chose one believing it was safe when it wasn't.
@Nixeu424 жыл бұрын
But...it *was* entirely safe. It's a hypothetical scenario. "Which of these guys do you think is your type?" is a totally harmless question on some talk show. Why should she take it seriously? Also, photos are pretty poor for making judgements about people, especially headshots. There's no motion, no dynamic body language to read. Unless she was claiming she could judge purely based on photos, the experiment is invalid. If her claim was that she could judge based on their eyes, that's also a form of body-language reading, and also one reliant on motion. The best you could do would maybe be to read their moods when the photo was taken.

slytherin0queen i think the problem was, that she was not suspicious in the first place. If she would have been she could have asked in a humorous way something like "is there even one good guy in this selection?". To this question they cant lie to her. But she wasnt even trying to even look at it in any sceptical way. She was so confident the way how fast she picked one, that she would never think about picking the wrong guy in the first place. Its as any guy she is picking, no matter which one it is, will always be the good guy for her. Thats her ideal way of thinking.

@@RuLeZ1988 So? Maybe it's just because I'm missing some context here, but was there a reason she should feel skeptical or paranoid about the choices? Beyond the fact that these were all famous murderers, who this woman might not have seen photos of before. It's a pointless question on some talk show. Unless she thought the show would actually be putting her into contact with these guys, why should she take this any more seriously than a game of "Fuck, Marry, Kill"? It's a purely hypothetical choice based on superficialities.

@Jug Haris, That's not the point! Didn't you watch and listen well? This lady said she can easily with no doubt tell if someone is a rapist or murderer! So, they played the same game with her but made it look like they were asking her a general dating question. So they showed her 3 guys which were ofcoz murderers and asked: which one of these guys would you date or go out with? Since she said she could easily and clearly tell rapists and murderers just by looking at their eyes; she should've been able to tell and say these 3 guys are all rapists and murderers next please. Unfortunately, that didn't happen coz she picked the 1st guy proving her wrong and also proving how absolutely clueless, unsuspecting and delusional she is!

God bless you I've read soooooo many BS comments and Urs was not one of them . It is true that maybe we can't " see " in peoples eyes , but for fucks sake she didn't have to make it into this whole session about why the girl needed help . Its OKAY to have your own beliefs . and its okay to try and inform but that was pushing a limit and all those who were saying that the poor girl had attitude , " well you need to go on GOOGLE and search up the term , cause this wasn't it -.-

she's just trying to get through to this girl, and is probably frustrated that after all the evidence the girl is not getting it. I think she has good intentions, and maybe she IS changing the world, one small step at a time. The experiments and topics on her show actually do change people, she's doing a lot more than other talk shows.

Yeah, not how this works. For every time someone is hurt or even dies due to statistically risky behavior, there are dozens more who never suffer from that behavior. Think about all the really bad drivers you know, or all the extreme sports athletes who live to retirement, or all the soldiers who actually come home intact. Yes, all of those people are do dangerous stuff, and people die from those things all the time...but lots of people also survive those same situations pretty regularly. And serial killers are actually really uncommon. That's why they make the news. Classic example of selection bias distorting people's view of risk: you don't generally hear much about crimes that never happened.

Well said. She seems to think she 'understands' people, but from what I have seen of her, she really just has a prurient interest in some 'sensational' aspect of their life, and then essentially goes about attacking them by being aggressively judgemental and telling them to stop doing the thing that interested her them in the first place. At least The Jerry Springer Show never pretended to be anything other than trash TV.

i only go for guys with blue and green eyes (i have brown, and im not even white) but you can't tell by looking at someone if theyre the 'right person' or even if theyre a good person. that being said, women go home with men they just met, and vice versa, all the time. it's not a big deal.

This women thinks that she is careful enough, tries to point out she doesn't go to very sketchy places at odd hours where people are more likely to be caught in bs. Also SHE HAD TO PICK. People watching this obviously aint listening to their intuition at all in the comment thread. But on the flip side of course Tyra would only give her these options because her point of having her there is to be the devils advocate to the girls choices. The condescendence in general looks bad on Tyra but it would look bad either way if she gave her an option or not. Also it is perfectly find to have opinions that others deem as inappropriate or dangerous. If you listened to everything anyone said you would never follow yourself ie listen to yourself and you would stay inside a box ie purpose of society.
