Being one of the largest men in his divisions history, you might think that Fury would rely on size and strength to bully his way through the competition. But instead, Fury is a pure boxer, cultivating slick movement and subtle traps to confound and embarrass his competitors. It’s apparent that, although Fury was named after Mike Tyson, he has been far more influenced stylistically by fighters like Muhammad Ali.
In fact, like Ali, Fury’s entire repertoire is mostly comprised of fients, multi directional jabs, guard manipulations, and next level head movement, all built around a masterful sense of timing.
So let’s take a look at how Fury has used each one of these skills to become one of the best pure boxers on the planet.

@@fredyscanlan wrong. He used to take some silly shots and he needed time to adjust to ring boxing, but his offensive AND defensive style were always the same, as described in this video. I mean, you're not wrong that he's improved massively, but which professional boxer doesn't from their first 5-10 fights to when they become a champ? But you're talking as if he completely changed from being "a clown" to a natural boxer. He was always a natural boxer, and fought this way for many years before becoming a pro.

Another brilliant video. Fury was underrated for a long time, for his antics & out of ring behaviour. However for me, he's the only guy I've seen who comprehensively outboxed Vladimir Klitschko. Of all the current heavyweights, he is the best boxer, Ruiz has the quickest hands, while Wilder is the biggest puncher. Joshua has little bit of everything, but his ringmanship was exposed a bit by Ruiz & it'll be interesting to see if he has learned from that experience.

@DeeJay2715 4 жыл бұрын
@@joesladden9914 Well he certainly seemed to have learned from the first fight. He got himself in tip top condition & boxed clever by avoiding getting into a close range slugfest where Ruiz quick hands could come into play. He was helped by Ruiz being in worse shape than previously & therefore less able to get into position to hit Joshua with the big shots. The fight itself was a bit of an anti climax but from AJs' perspective, exactly the right tactics to employ.

I'd love to hear your take on Fury's relative lack of power for a man so large. I've argued in several places that his lack of power is the result of being so defensive. He rarely plants and fires off his back foot and rarely commits his hips, because he's 100% committed to ALWAYS being in a position to retreat and move. You cannot be a power puncher without risk, and Fury is almost never willing to take that risk. I believe it will cost him, because he gives all the best fighters a full 12 rounds to find his chin, and like Wilder showed, give a man 12 rounds and he WILL find you at least once.

He’s at 34-1 professionally and at 105-5 amateur, that’s not luck either. And 6’9” isn’t infintely tall either, his chin isn’t in the clouds, untouchable, either. If Ruiz Jr. slams his 250 pound frame into his ribs, Fury will feel that too, that’s just physics. Or I could be wrong and he does get beat. I’d still like to see it.

@Nick Gurr Canelo is highly skilled & has improved fight to fight, but honestly, he does pick fighters at the most convenient times for himself. The fact he's dropping out of Light Heavyweight after KOing a zombified 36 year old Kovalev is proof (he doesn't want a piece of Artur Beterbiev, or Bivol, or Gvozdyk). If Canelo can legit beat guys like Smith, Plant, or Bivol at 168...or clean out 160 by beating guys like Andrade and Charlo (GGG was robbed & does deserve that 3rd fight as well), then yes, he's No. 1 P4P. Loma & Usyk are the best pure boxers right now for me, but Fury is definitely up there skill-wise. Hopefully we can see Fury-Wilder 2, Fury vs. Ruiz/AJ soon.

As a bit of a fairweather boxing fan, after last Fury fight I thought while I could see his subtler moves, alot of his head shots seemed to slide off opponent's face or glance off the neck & it was only w/ his body blows that he was putting the game away. This vid really brought insight into his style & strategies. Great stuff. Insta Sub.

I like the little comparisons to Ali. Ali came back had 2 fights then lost to Frazier. Fury came back had 2 fights then drew with Wilder with only the knockdowns causing the draw. When Ali lost to Frazier no one thought he was the greatest, history always looks kinder on fighters when they’re gone, Fury will be judged kindly by history. Problem is he’s now messing around with wrestling, getting distracted, the demons are always threatening to come out. Tyson sees his toughest opponent every time he looks in the mirror.

Be sure you know what you're talking about when it comes to Ali because you're way off. Throughout Ali's entire career he never stopped saying I am the greatest, there was even a movie starring Ali, called the Greatest, this was when Ali was still fighting. Truth is many people don't know that Ali actually did all that greatest talk because he was just mimicking wrestlers who always put on a good show so Ali was just copying what they do. Ali said he started doing this around 1960 as he was turning professional. He would watch the wrestler Gorgeous George who was always saying I am the greatest and would make up nicknames for his wrestling opponents. Venues would be packed with people hoping to see if Gorgeous George could make good on his predictions of how he was going to beat other wrestlers. Ali thought that was a good idea so he started doing that himself and calling the round that he was going to win the fight. Watch Ali's fights closely, many of them have a WWE atmosphere. Ali wasn't just a boxer but also an Entertainer

Again, thank you, Mr. Christian. TRULY! Great style analysis of the big man in constant movement. Once, in discussing style, you mentioned focusing on the changes older George Foreman made on his famed comeback trail. Who can forget Foreman slugging it out with an exceptional, in his prime, "Real Deal" Evander Holyfield, who, perhaps, gave Foreman too much respect, too much room, only to realize, a bit late, he HAD to strike hard, only to pull through. You promised (is that too much? I apologize in advance-after all, you do this for the fight-hungry) and I recognize you’re a busy man. Again, I learn so much. But I can't wait for the GF style analysis for my own mercenary reasons. On a roll, GF beat Qawi, struggled with Tommy Morrison (TM), a TM who displayed rare restraint and genuinely boxed-a rarity that would have been nice to see more, especially given TM’s unfortunately brief career, bedeviled by addiction and disease. Then Foreman puts away an undefeated Michael Moorer. Like you, I went to film school. Even took “Combat for the Camera” at UCLA. Any Bruins out there? I highly recommend this class. AWESOME! I wrote pro-wrestling (WWE). OK. Restrain the laughter, although Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle and countless other good men and women are, certainly, far from jokes. I’ve been writing a Foreman screenplay. But Foreman’s comeback trail, at least from what I’ve read, has a strong personal narrative, dependent on funding his church boxing gym, his “heart project” to raise a troubled community. In San Juan, the apparition of the Christ appeared before him, as (was it Gil Clancy? My script is unfinished as I work on a longer work about a boxing gym. But funding his church in a gang-riddled community is a powerful back story. Foreman even said his “comeback,” with so much time having passed from the unexpected loss to Ali and later Jimmy Young, when Foreman suffered heat stroke in San Juan, allowed him to experience the sport-absent pressure. No longer “needing” to be the best freed up what was, in fact, BEST about him. I apologize for the long note (assuming your still here :))-I love this channel. Keep up the great work. (BTW: Foreman fights five guys in one night was awesome!) Tyson-Foreman -- with both in their respective primes, Foreman wins; on the comeback trail, it's Fury. PEACE!!

Though he may match Ali in movement, he evidently isn't as fast as Ali with handspeed, but he's instead far more proactive in his style and more willing to actively create openings in his opponents' defences. It's easy, and understandable, why Tyson Fury is frequently compared to Ali. It helps that his sheer size gets opponents to underestimate his true movement speed.
