This isn't work-ups with the date stamp. This is transit to Med/IO. I launched VA-83's aircraft from NAS Cecil Field July 1 or July 2, after terminal leave activated. Work ups were well earlier than this.

It still cracks me up that flat top sailors still say "6 month cruise". I was in tomcat squadron on the Indy(cv-62) from 82-84. None of the cruises were ever 6 months. I asked guys from other carriers, they also confirmed all their cruises over 6 months. Sometimes i still miss the adrenaline rush of being on the cat, only couple feet away the f-14 stabilizer as the my thumb incrementally goes higher with every engine stage till it hits full after burners while I use other hand to grip the nearest pad eye. What a thrill as that heavy but sleek bird is slung forward into the wind. Night time is the very best viewing of those almost 20 foot long, multi colored flames roaring out from the exhaust . The heat blast would singe my mustache and eye brows. I noticed same effects on some of the other troubleshooters too.

I was an EW onboard at the time, was the LPO of OW Division, getting ready to transfer to shore duty, in fact, I transferred to Pensacola the Friday before the Sara got underway for the cruise.

I remember the day the ship was decommissioned. I was fishing at the jetties just north of the base. Mayport FL. I believe it was 1994.

Is the Uss Saratoga an Essex class aircraft carrier?

How about Forrestal class? They were rebuilding the next fleet to be Nimitz Class Super Aircraft carrier.The Uss Ronald Reagan is the 9th of this class the next is the Uss George H w Bush . The future is the Gerald Ford Class to begin if authorized in 2010 slowly replacing the Nimitz class.

I was on Saratoga and I put her through slap was a machinist mate chief in charge of a division throughout the overhaul last year I was the only man in the MPA they were qualified to be an engineering officer to watch shuffle the last year I said back-to-back watch us with the MPA lighting off the plant
