The lentil soup looked good, and as one would expect. Brown lentils usually cook up like this. Wondering if you had red lentils before. They turn into mush as you said. Kind of an Indian dal, they are made from split lentils and peas. The bread looked sturdier than the bread at Katz's. Did it taste good. And like you, I would have needed more mustard, to bad they did not seem to have it on the tables. Prices where great so.

I think it's the same owners as the one that was on 33rd St. If it is, they have an excellent chicken noodle soup. However, I found them overpriced when they were on 33rd St. Seems like the prices are about 25%-50% cheaper than what they were on 33rd St.

So I went to Stage Door Deli Friday!. For some variety I ordered a Reuben: corned beef, sauerkraut and Russian Dressing on Rye. It was a burst of flavors, perhaps too much as the heavily buttered bread and corned beef were both too rich and provided little balance. But still enjoyed. A good lunch strategy for Manhattan is to arrive at 11:45 before the lunch crowds; you won't have to wait plus will get indoor seating. I spent most of Friday afternoon zoning out at my desk while I digested. Great review, keep them coming!

I used to work literally right near there (building in sight in the video) and would go there several times per week. The upstairs waiter service section is for pizza IIRC, which isn’t amazing but decent. The prices were always a bit high to my mind. Seems they haven’t necessarily increased prices in line with inflation, perhaps bc demand is lower post covid. Haven’t been there since before covid, but it used to be quite busy. Mostly offices in that area so I’m sure they’ve suffered. I feel bad for them. Most of the workers were quite nice.
@uaeats5 ай бұрын
Interesting to hear it used to be very busy before. When I've gone it was always decently busy but never slammed and about 50/50 tourists and locals. Perhaps many FiDi workers are still remote and they once thrived off when there were more commuters. Agreed that the workers are all very friendly particularly the people who work the cash registers

Yo is this the re-incarnation of the famous "Stage Deli" on 7th Ave that closed down a decade ago? Back when I used to live in Manhattan, that was my go to spot for pastrami sandwiches... then I would walk over to Carnegie Deli to get their cheesecake lol! I agree that Katz was better than Stage back in the day, but that extra betterness was just not worth the hassle... 2nd Ave Deli became my next go to after Stage Deli closed down... another place that while not as good as Katz delivered enough goodness without the hassle... the hassle at Katz made it such that I only went there if folks came in town and needed to try it... otherwise, simply not worth the hassle since I don't get up early.

UA, I love your reviews. I need to point out, however, that Stage Door Deli is a NY deli, but NOT a Jewish deli. Offering cheese on a meat sandwich is not Kosher (mixing meat and dairy). But the real tip-off is that no Jewish deli would have ham on the menu! This is why they didn't have matzo ball soup; it's not a Jewish deli. Consider it a learning experience.

@Lawomenshoops5 ай бұрын
If you buy it on trimmed brisket, which is the cut of beef pastrami is made from, after trimming the fat you will get about 60% of the original weight. So if you get a 10 pound brisket, you will have 6 pounds to make pastrami. Then factor in the cost of the brine,and smoking of pastrami. It’s a long process. With some labor! So no wonder it cost so much per pound.

This is new york. that little tiny deli has a rent over 25k a month. Think about your starbucks having 25k a month rent. They'd have to sell 5000 drinks a month just to pay rent, thats not factoring their other shit. Then add that they have to pay workers enough to live here (which means working at mcdonalds pays 22$ an hour). Almost all of those tick tocks you see about how expensive fast food is are cherry picking locations from Manhattan or SF. Because restaurants are about double the price of any medium size city. 15$ here makes it about the same price as a fast food combo meal, and about half the cost of the tourist famous katz deli, which is twice this price. I live probably less than a mile for this place, my expectation if for dining out casually is if a place has a waiter, I am not leaving the restaurant for under 50$ before taxes and tip befor dinner. All the steak places featured on this channel are basically 150$ for the amount of stuff UA has been ordering.
