Just rewatched the fight all these years later. Hendricks 1 2 4. Easily. Transitions and significant strikes were the name of the game. Magnificent work off his back to get back to his feet and took dominant position multiple times against the cage. There's a reason why GSP was even shocked when they raised his hand at the end of the fight. Juiced or not, Hendricks won that fight.

I l know as a promoter it must suck to have a star fighter take a break suddenly, especially if a rematch seemed imminent, but the rudeness and anger was inappropriate. He could've just accepted his decision then work on it later. He could've talked GSP into coming back later, he couldn't pressures GSP into a rematch if the break was too long. There was narrative in seeing if he still got at after a break. Dana White was such a hot head about it, he didn't think through all of the options, but instead he plowed through everything and everyone knows he messed up.

Ah, I gotta disagree..I was listening to the buzz about it being a robbery all day and then I watched the fight to see for myself. I don't think it was as one sided as people made it out to be. GSP ate more shots and got taken down more than we've ever seen but he wasn't being dominated. In my opinion, he returned fire. He stayed busy with his punches, and kicks and take downs and he didn't give up. He maintained himself. But, that's not taking anything away from Hendricks who did exactly the same. It's the first time we've seen GSP meet his match. And that's the problem..it was even. The 50/50 debate about who won the fight suggests just that. It means, Hendricks was not convincing enough. They need another fight. That's my take on it.

GSP showed why he is a true champion by giving everything he had in the 5th. Johny made the mistake of assuming he had 3 rounds and didn't go for the win in the final one. I personally had GSP winning 1, 3, and 5...But even if his hand didn't raise I was more impressed with him in this fight than any other. I think part of the problem is that this is the first fight in forever that GSP did not just own the other guy. We are so used to him doing being able to do that. So when he doesn't and its a real fight people give even more credit to Hedricks because they are amazed that he did so well.

I watched the fight and thought that Hendricks won. BUT then I watched it again without emotions and from a neutral point of view and with all respect for Johny,I am pretty sure that it was GSPs win.He won the 1st,3rd and 5th round to be exact.It was a very close fight though

GSP isnt the same fighter he was before he injured his knee. He took more damage in his last three fights than he did in his career prior to the knee injury. 50% of of the total damage he took in his entire mma career were in his fights against Carlos Condit, Nick Diaz and Johny Hendricks. All three of these fights took place after he injured his knee and it is so apparent that he affected him. His face was a mess after the Carlos Condit fight, his face was also a mess after the Nick Diaz and then he got smashed by Johny Hendricks. GSP's performances in those fights werent dominant like his previous performances. GSP isnt the same fighter anymore and its getting worse and worse.

I just watched this fight for the first time, and I have to say - it was a "great fight". This was competitive, and like any great fight - you can't be upset with a decision that goes to the champion. Hendricks will eventually get his title, but GSP looked fresher in the last couple of rounds, and I think the slip was really the difference maker, in terms of the damage done. Again, you can't argue with the champion retaining his title in such a "great fight". If it wasn't a great fight, there would have been a title change.

I feel bad for GSP. He's never sounded like this after a fight. We know Johnny did more damage (it's obvious). But the amount of pressure on GSP is most likely draining him more than his fight. Sounds like he needs to make a decision if he retires then it was an honor watching him fight in the octagon. If he decides to rematch it will be a fight for the ages. If he takes time off and comes back I believe he will be better. Whatever he does respect his decision, he's an entertainer and a sportsman, and a humble one at that. GSP did not lose this fight. It was very close. Its the commentators that influenced the audiences view of how the fight was going. For those with doubts, rewatch the fight with the sound off. Gsp neutralized any and all outbursts hendricks had in the fight. He definitely won rounds 3 and 5. He neutralized hendricks on the 2nd half of the second round after hendricks rocked him by outjabbing him. He took hendricks down on the 1st round, while hendricks only landed a few punches. gsp won 1,3,5

Did anyone watch the GSP Hendricks-fight again while scoring hits? I thought GSP lost, but getting hurt and not being dominant, doesn't mean you can't win based on points... Another thing: After the fight, one of the guys from GSP's corner talked in his ear quite a bit before he talked to Joe Rogan. The part about GSP losing remembrance about a part of the fight, and maybe even the retirement part, could that guy have told GSP to say that? Seeing as many people thought that Hendricks got his ass kicked by Robbie Lawler - I don't see him coming anywhere close to GSP's run. 7 years and 11 title defenses. 25 Wins and 2 loses and both of those loses being avenged.
