UK Gladiators - Series 7 1998 - Episode 10 - Quarter Final 2 - 7th November 1998
Here are the quarter finalists!
Pauline Shirt (Trekking centre runner from Derbyshire) versus Trudy Ballantine (Anaesthesiologist from Edinburgh, Scotland but originally from Buckinghamshire)
Mark Whitehouse (Streetlight technician from Doncaster, South Yorkshire) versus Colm Curran (Fitness instructor from Belfast, Northern Ireland)
Notes: Catapult is in the second quarter final for its second appearance in an event line-up, but it is played as a split event for the men for the first time whilst the women play Vertigo.
Prior to the events, Hang-Tough is in the second quarter final in an event line-up for its appearance for the second time which was previously played from the first quarter final.
Duel is in the second quarter final in an event line-up as a core event and a combat event for even numbered quarter finals, which will interchange with Gauntlet in every quarter final by parity number.
Same as The Wall for its appearances in an event line-up for even numbered quarter finals.
Absent: Falcon, Diesel, and Rhino.

WOW. That was one of, if not THE most tense, exciting and nail-biting eliminator I've ever seen! Notice how when they both were struggling to get up the travellator, no-one could bear to look! Even John Sachs was right on the edge of his seat as well! The only other eliminator that came close to this in terms of unpredictability, for me was the IG2 Semi-Final between Jackie Kinsella and Peggy Odita

And when you are all watching this 2nd quarter final of the 7th series 1998, after the split events, Pauline Shirt had picked up an injury during Hang-Tough whilst she was hanging on the red rings where Vogue was on her trying to get her down from the rings where she had a painful back and she was sent to the hospital for a reason. And if she couldn't compete Duel and the Eliminator, then there would be a substitute contender that she would be replaced by.... Tara Leyden (supermarket retail assistance from Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset) as a standby who was beaten by Pauline from Heat 2.

Pauline might've had the strength to Hang-Tough against Vogue in this case, but however which way you look at it, its NO GOOD HANGING-TOUGH for 40 Seconds, if it eventually leads to you getting injured. Pauline might've scored 5 POINTS more than Trudy did, but she ended up paying a higher price by getting injured and having to Drop-Out of the Tournament. Good to see Tara got a 2nd Chance after what happened to her in The Eliminator between Herself & Pauline, if you remember there was controversy as to whether Pauline touched THE WHITE SECTIONS At The End of THE SEE-SAWS, as a result Pauline ended up going through in Tara's Place.

The only injury of the season and it was a bad one. Pauline hurt herself. At the same time, it shows that Gladiators should have worked the fingers of the contenders instead of straddling them. But some of them, like Vogue and Jet, thought pulling off the fingers was a dirty tactic.

I was a little thrown-back in the Men's Eliminator when the music suddenly stopped playing, was John Anderson slowing down the Travelator so we could finally get a winner, or was he trying to tell the contenders something and asked for the music to stop playing for a moment.

I think the music didn't actually play in the arena during the events coz it would have been too distracting for the contenders and gladiators, they would have waited till the end of the show to add the music to the commentary

I reckon Pauline not only threw away her chance of being a Semi-Finalist, but also her chance of becoming The Series 7 Female Champion She was ahead of the competition even the Male Contenders but she decided to push her luck to far by hanging on & giving herself a serious injury Mind you in Heat 2 she should've been DISQUALIFIED in The Eliminator because she broke all the rules with The See-Saws, from jumping off to the side to NOT TOUCHING THE WHITE PLATES at the end, so I suppose you could say this is karma for what she did in Heat 2

I wasn’t a fan of Pauline, although I never wanted a contender to be eliminated through injury. I agree about being disqualified in the Heats. Definitely didn’t touch the white marker on the beams

Pauline didn't need to hang on like that would have sensed her neck was starting to gather to much pressure and she should have dropped ffs, stupid to hang on when she had a lead at that point and could conserve some energy anyway.

Well Saracen was honest with his loss on the wall, his contender was flying up the wall, 21 seconds. We had a contender in the American shows did it in 22 seconds.

As much as Colm whined the next show, he was lucky as fuck here. He got Wolf on Duel while Mark got Vulcan. That's where the lead was established. Plus, he normally should have faced Alex Reid in QF3. A tougher opponent.

Australian Gladiators was cancelled and I believe they were looking to replace the aging Wolf as a bad guy (with the never seen Shark and Khan both failing, they tried to make Saracen edgy but he's too damn nice, so Vulcan filled a gap)

@@richchurchkeen8426 Shark??? I never heard of him ? In the UK gladiators ? .. I know Khan did a series but he was no more a bad guy.. a big Giant though. Saracen was always a nice guy but I know he did try to cross over and show a mean streak but he was still too nice. Diesel I remember , Raider , and Bullet , as very brief gladiators In the last few series.

Shark was brought in to be the new bad guy, season 6(?) But after doing all the pre show training camps was either injured or ill and never made it to TV. Worth a google. Seems like a nice guy, holds no malice at missing out....I found a random podcast with Jet and another host talking to Shark.....
