If turkey won't let them pass through their waters, why can't they use the European canal system up the Rhine to the Donau and down to Odessa? The barges are bigger than the minesweepers.

@@shinybaldy It's NOT esca;ation, it is bad strategic thinking by Germany, if they won't allow them down the the canals. However Turkey CAN let them return to their Home ports, that is in the Montruex convention, so also as Russia is NOT the old USSR, they do NOT now have to be told of any warship vessels passing through the straits. Come on Turkey let these ships home, when the crews are fully trained up.

@@shinybaldy As far as could find on the news feeds, Turkey is the only who has blocked the minesweepers getting to Ukraine, the German government hasn't put up any roadblocks. But the Danu goes through Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania. The problem is that Croatia supports Russia in their invasion of Ukraine.

@@ScoobyDooby-Doo1 lol ok sure. The old technology is going to replace people argument. And where do those unmanned systems operate from? That's it ships, minehunters to be exact. Which have specialised equipment for locating the mines and which don't have traditional hulls that would set the mines off.

@@ScoobyDooby-Doo1 Those Autonomous systems are still being trialled they're not ready to go into active service yet let alone replace the existing minehunting fleet.... besides wasn't it supposed to be the T32 Frigates which haven't even been built yet that are meant to take over the bulk of the minehunting role by incorporating the Autonomous Drones.

@@ScoobyDooby-Doo1 Give me strength. You do understand that one very large ship isn't going to last long in a fight? That's why militaries need a ton of equipment and personnel, because they don't last long in a war. The enemy likes to shoot at them. I know it's inconsiderate but they're just so dastardly like that. It's all well and good having more people to put on the frigates etc but if the waters are full of mines you've got a problem. One ship even with unmanned vehicles can't be everywhere and would be a priority target. If you only have one ship dedicated to dealing with mines then you're kinda stuffed.

I believe the US has sent warships into the Black Sea on NATO training exercises with Romania, Bulgaria. and Turkey. Because the US doesn't border the sea their time is limited before they must leave. Ukraine on the other hand shouldn't have any problems bringing ships into their own waters. Turkey needs to know their role and let these ships pass or they might need some council.

so can Ukraine use these ships to intercept Russian oil on the seas? I know they are not well armed for a surface fight but they out gun tankers

Waste of time selling Ukraine those ships. Anyway, aren't drones better? So then are we putting Ukrainian sailors at risk by selling these ships that are out of date and useless for Minehunting to an ally?!! I mean if they are not good enough for us then why for an ally that is at war? And how do they get past Turkey? Just another UK Government cut of the Royal Navy.
