I will be undertaking a recce of the Capel Curig - Pen Y Pass and back on the 15th August so as to scope out the margin for the first cut-off. Whilst your view is that the first section is tame, is there a small chance of maybe taking it too easy given the cut-offs in later more technical sections? Also my head is a spin about the type of shoes. I had been thinking of my Topo Mtn Racer2's but note you wearing the Inov8 G300's. How did they work out for you on this course? I do have a pair of the G300's but tend to wear them on woodland trail and the like.

In our view after the first two cut off's the others seem generous. However we weren't at race pace and I guess it ultimately depends how fast you run. There's certainly a limit to how fast you can go in the middle third for sure. We would really recommend reccying the middle part as that was tough if you only have one day to do it. I haven't used the Topo's so can't comment. I run in La Sportiva helios or the Inov8 G270s mostly on the coast path but the G300's are that bit more cushioned and I really liked them on that terrain, especially for not feeling the stones and their grip was good although sometimes they can be a bit slippy on wet rock. Hope that helps and maybe see you there :)

@@teamsolerunmilesdrinkgin8856 I'll give some thought to your suggestion of looking at the middle 3rd. Just done a trail half in the G300's and they were very good. Yes, probably see you guys there. All the best.
