Hi everyone, welcome to another episode by Dr. Wellness.
My name is Dr Chen Yiming.
Today we will be doing something different - it will be an episode on the unboxing of the polar h9 heart rate sensor.
The h9 is a High quality heart rate sensor for everyday sports.
The Retail Price in Singapore is $109

Sensor : this is the sensor
Weight is 21g , sensor size is 3cm by 6 cm by 1 cm
The face is grey in colour vs the h10 which is black in colour
There is a protective plastic sheet on the sensor to prevent scratches.
It is waterproof up to 30metres - so you don’t have to worry about your sweat affecting the sensor. You can also safely rinse the device under running water.
So lets turn it over.
This is the back of the sensor which houses the battery.
You can open It with a 20cent coin
The battery is a CR2025 button type battery
It is extremely long lasting - a single battery like this can last you for a year , if you workout 1hr a day.
The Connection methods are
1) 1 bluetooth connection vs h10 which can connect to 2 bluetooth devices
2) unlimited ANT+ connection
3) Unlimited 5kHz technologies found on some gym bikes and treadmills.
So you can connect with all smart watches, phone, or other fitness equipments with 5kHz transmission.

This is the strap - called the polar soft strap
polar has described this as extremely comfortable - well we will give it a test later on to verify that.
Its only 39grams.
The size is adjustable and fits everyone.
Its easily replaceable if yours has worn out.
To put it on - you simply slide the hook into the hole.
So basically its a device that monitors your heart rate by sensing the electrical current running through your heart muscles via the chest wall.
It is therefore more accurate and more reflective of immediate heart rate changes as compared to the optical heart rate sensing method used by most smart watches.
Hence this polar H9 is more accurate for HIIT workout where there is rapid increase and reduction in heart rate.
It works well with polar beat app.
You can use the app to track calories burnt and VO2max to monitor fitness progress over time.
It Can also work with 3rd party app like nike run club, runkeeper, Swift, TrainerRoad, The Sufferfest and MapMyFitness.

The differences between the h9 and its older brother the h10 will be listed.
There are Some points which I have already mentioned in the earlier part of the video.
1.
With the h10 , you can store your workout data in the device - so you can actually run with only the h10 and sync the data after the run with another device to extract the workout information.
With the h9, there is no built in memory - so you have to run or workout with a smartphone or smart watch to view the data.
2.
With the h10 - you can connect to 2 bluetooth device at once whereas with the h9 you can only connect to one bluetooth device.

Not a big deal I guess? I would probably just connect it to my Apple Watch most of the time.
3.
H10 strap has grippy dots on it. Its clip has a clip on and off clap.
H9 strap doesn’t have grippy dots and you simply slide it through the little loop.
Will this matter? We will find out later in this video as we test the device out real time.
4.
H10 face is black in colour
H9 face is grey in colour
