Join Pearl and Serene on the Trim Healthy Podcast (a.k.a. “The Poddy”).
Welcome to the spot where Pearl and Serene share their knowledge and their hearts (along with Danny’s antics) on topics ranging from physical and mental health to spiritual truth, and, yes… even a little comic relief. Put your seat belts on though…it can get a little bumpy! This particular show can be lacking in “proper podcast behavior.” But this is where growth happens… this is where NEW knowledge is celebrated… and fundamental knowledge is respected. Get ready for imperfectly polite conversations about health and wellness… the place where cutting edge science meets ancient wisdom.

Y’all, what is saving me from sugar binging is the Frisky with natural peanut butter! I’ve been on THM for a month, and it saves me when I am tempted to return to my previous sugary ways. Thank you for helping us with strategies to prevent sugar binges! ❤

Danny commented on this but I would love to know your thoughts on kids ministries and candy. My kids can’t get through Sunday School, Awana or VBS without being given a “treat” and I’m so tired of it!

It's really hard because THM isn't an "elimination diet" as a whole. But practically speaking, it is. You can't sit down to a normal meal. You have to eliminate entire food groups to make S or E work which literally gets rid of almost all of the recipes you traditionally cook-pizza, pasta dishes of every kind, gravy, tacos, anything with beef or pork that uses a carb as part of the dish, enchiladas, gyros, curry's, gumbo, eggs & toast, etc. You can't have any flour, milk, or sugar (flour and milk are a main cooking staple for most people). You also can't go to family gatherings or any other events because you don't know if someone put butter in their pan when they made the rice. It also eliminates most comfort food and almost all restaurant food. In my opinion, the only way to make the plan work is if you stay home full-time. So it's emotionally and mentally taxing. You're eliminating socializing with people over food, tradition of family recipes, and comfort in the eating process. I can't make it past a day on plan, it's just crazy hard. I totally understand where she's coming from! You lose the willpower after a while.

The most satiating thing I eat is anything I make with freshly milled flour from the actual wheat berries. You will feel full, satisfied and have no desire to eat for at least 3 hrs.

This is embarrassing to say, but I mostly stopped ThM altogether. I still believe in it, but I was like this lady with binge eating. I went to crossovers, I did all the things and I still kept binging… it was emotional triggered for me. I knew all the things, but nothing seemed to help and I felt awful. After my first baby I lost 45 lbs on ThM, after my second my hormones were wild. I learned I’ve had PCOS since I was potentially 10 years old, and as a byproduct of my hormone messes I have elevated Cortisol levels. I literally was addicted to sugar because it soothed the cortisol issue (temporarily and badly and causing the issue to get worse over time). Basically I have moved into the Fast Like a Girl program for hormonal balance, and I’ve already felt a difference… and that’s not to say that it’s the answer or THM isn’t, but I think it really could be the right way for me to get back to THM, after these hormone and imbalance issues are in a better place. I don’t think any person has to be the same or any journey is going to be the same. I am hoping I can come back- but if you can address any tips for PCOS I would be very grateful.

The fast Like a Girl fasting method might be promoting GLP-1 as well 🤔

I have PCOS too, and I’m living more of crossovers the older I get. I’ve restructured them and have more satiety and satisfaction right now then I have had in a LONG time. It’s also helping my blood sugar and keeping my insulin resistance in check.

I agree with you that we each find our own path. If I was you I would suggest eliminating dairy. It can be quite immflamatory and damaging to hormones.
