This video is to help owners that have dogs that are showing aggressive behaviours, how to classify them and understand why their dogs are having to show aggression in the first place. The true training of aggressive behaviours is to figure out exactly why the dog feels the need to exhibit aggressive displays in the first place.

What you described is exactly what happened to me at a dog park. Instead of intervening at the point of dog aggression between two larger dogs, everyone there formed a circle and "watched." This was after a smaller white dog came up behind Willow and started snarling and chasing her. Again, no owner came to claim the dog, and instead, the animal tried to jump and crawl up me to get to her when I picked her up out of reach. It was really upsetting.

One of the things that frustrate me the most is that people who own dogs automatically assume that they are dog experts. This stops their willingness to learn more and work on issues. You so often see people blame other people or dogs for their own dogs misbehavior, and because it's not their own fault they don't feel the need to work on it.

hi, my older border collie has a bit of food aggression towards other dogs. she is really well trained and will have absolutely NO problem with me or my family going near or touch her food. however as soon as my 13 week old bc puppy comes near her bowl she snaps... WHAT SHOULD I DO? also my puppy growls when i try to pick him up. i have been told to use my clicker training by touching him and then clicking and he is fine, but i when i dont have food he still growls.

also My vet told me that if he snaps at me i should use the alpha role should push him onto his side and leave him there until he stops struggling and realises im in charge but i extremely disagree with this method. what should i do to make him realise picking him up is ok?

Very interesting video. Don't know if you can give me trick for stopping that behaviour: my parent´s dog is directly bitting my dog (no growl, no sap) as soon as we came in the house. I guess it is a territorial problem. How should we react to my parent´s dog? We want him to stop attacking dogs who come in their home.

will you be making a video on helping dogs that are overly excited but come OFF as a aggressive? my dog is extremely playful and absolutely loves dogs (and people), but he has had a hard time showing respect for other dogs when meeting. he does not bite/snarl/growl/snap t BUT he is a boxer/mastiff mix and he is unaware of his size. every time he meets a dog, he wants to jump and play (there's the boxer in him), and we still need help with friendly intros. he is wonderful in a dog park though!

What about a dog that is meeting another dog, both off leash both stiff body after sniffing each other, tails almost touching their backs (even if they don't have curly tails) then you see then the scuffle comes till one dog gets pinned down? The one on the top is growling the one down is squeaking? Do they "strong" personalities just crashed?

I know it's been a while since you posted but try looking up being picked up by kim and zilla. She's a dog trainer in Wolverhampton UK and has some great positive videos. She's helped my dog a lot just by her videos. It might help your problem. I tried to post the link but it stopped me

Could be predatory drive? I'm not sure because I can't see it myself. How does the morkie respond (fear)? If it's becoming an issue and worrisome, hire a consultant or behaviourist to assess them. It's so difficult to interpret what is going on here without actual visual confirmation for myself.

5:42 One of the [dog] owners will say, "Let them work it out." This is the equivalent of a parent of a schoolyard bully saying, "Let them work it out." No, the adults need to stop the bad behavior. This is why I stopped taking my dogs to the dog park. Too many irresponsible adult dog owners refuse to correct their dog's bad behavior.

Alpha is not good or bad. Alpha merely identifies the top of the hierarchical social pack. There are all types of Alphas. Some are calm benevolent leaders, some are tyrannical bullies, but most fall in the middle. There is nothing wrong with being an alpha. There is something wrong with being an overbearing bully. Don't conflate the two. Dogs and humans are pack animals. Our natural state is to form hierarchical social structures. This is how we managed to survive the harshness of reality. Dogs and humans benefit from the hierarchy. They also benefit from the calm benevolent leadership of an alpha. To deny these things is to deny reality. The Positive-Reinforcement-Only ideology denies that hierarchical social structures are natural or beneficial. They see oppression and exploitation behind every hierarchy. For them, all hierarchies are based on power and subjugation. They don't consider, much less acknowledge, that competence might play a role. They deny that the hierarchy might benefit every pack member. The Positive-Reinforcement-Only ideology also opposes punishing bad behavior. This doctrine limits behavior modification methods to distraction and bribing (treats). This is not always effective. Correcting bad behavior doesn't require inflicting pain or violence, but it does require punishment. For example, applying mild pressure on a dog's slip lead to bring him back to healing is a form of punishment. It is not positive reinforcement. Likewise, a mother punishes her toddler with time-out for throwing a temper tantrum. These corrections are in the best interest of both the dog and the child. Well-balanced humans and dogs require clear rules and boundaries. Rules and boundaries cannot be enforced without consequences for those who violate them. The misbehaving dog and child should learn that their behavior is bad and unacceptable. Distracting them with treats doesn't teach them anything. Teaching a dog new tricks, such as sit and roll-over, is most effective using positive reinforcement, but I would not rely solely on treats to change a dog's bad behavior. Instead, I typically use correction and calm leadership. You should reward good behavior, but you should also punish bad behavior. Trying to reason with the Positive-Reinforcement-Only crowd is nearly impossible. They assume a righteous moral superiority that closes their minds to opposing ideas. For them, it is a religion, and their dogma cannot be questioned. They will also cite academic studies that support their views. Why are there no opposing studies? Our feel-good institutions won't fund or allow studies to investigate the effectiveness and benefits of punishing bad behavior. They will be rejected during the ethics review. So, of course, there are no opposing academic studies. Too many dogs have been put down because of the Positive-Reinforcement-Only ideology. We need to end this narrow-minded approach and consider using whatever method or tool might help save the dog's life. If the techniques allowed by the Positive-Reinforcement-Only ideology fail, we should try the balanced approach that includes rewards and punishments. What do we have to lose, except maybe the dog's life?

DO NOT roll him,and get a new vet - no vet with a brain would recommend that, you can get bitten and cause immense stress to the puppy. I would love to help but b/c I can't SEE either of these behaviours I can't give you the appropriate behaviours to work with. It's not something that is very basic, these behaviours need to be assessed in person. For the puppy - you're in the right direction but you need to wean out the food. Find his threshold (growl) and go JUST before that, if no growl reward

Something that just struck me... if a puppy watches TV, does that count as socialization exposure? In other words if they see a person with a hoodie on TV, would they then be OK around people with hoodies in real life? I ask because I've noticed some dogs get scared of their own reflection in a mirror... so clearly they aren't so good at differentiating between illusion and reality.
