I hope Leo actually reads comments, because: THIS IS GENIUS! I am 30 years old, and I have been clinically depressed for almost 20 years. I had ZERO expectations for any of this to work, much less make sense to me. I have been in and out of therapy, hospitals, and through the alphabet soup of meds for 15 years, (yes, half my life), and no one ever took the time and energy to break down the complexities of emotions and the reactions we have. I tried this once, and now I'm doing it at least once a week, because I need the reminder of how we function, as how our reactions impact others. I can't speak enough good things about this video, and this channel enough. Thanks, Leo, please never stop making small doses of help! Because that's what I consider this channel: small doses of help.

Yeah emotions are unbelivably complex. They're so complex that i think we'll never really get to label them all. And i noticed emotions are not very precise ethier, just like an electron, it's kind of in multiple places at once, not in 1 place like our human logic is used to, so same with emotions. And yeah i noticed that...even observing the material reality can be really fulfilling at times. Wether is objects, shadows lighting in general. It's pretty amazing to be grateful of very simple stuff it really is a blessing.

Very good, I'm glad you're looking at this topic. It's a good one for me because I know that I sometimes am swayed too much by my emotions, for example in decision making sometimes, when I react emotionally when it would have been better to follow logic, and I also suffer quite often from unhelpful emotions, but at the same time I don't want to try and numb them and not feel emotions at all and I feel they're an important part of what makes us human in the first place and makes life worth living (though also painful as well).

I can only think of two reasons. Rather people decided that these things will not be understood by kids, cuz they seek more movement than mindfulness.or rather the system decided kids need to know math and history more than this " crap". Or rather the almighty ones that decide for the system decided not to have so many clever people.

horsebrusher If you've read Sir Ken Robinson's The Element, he explains that the core of the Western education curriculum is to train people to work for corporations/organizations. So they teach you math, science, engineering, etc, in order to do things in an organization. The individual shit, like art, history, English, music, philosophy, etc, you're basically on your own or expected to get paid less. Stuff that makes you a better human being doesn't count unless it increases the bottom line for Richie Rich. They do give these types of lectures & training for management courses and in-house corporation trainings as well. I took a 2 hour course on emotional intelligence for my old job a couple of years ago, but a bit difficult to really learn it while also having to work at the same time..

horsebrusher Mindfulness would be very scary to parents if it was actually taught at school. If kids learned mindfulness early enough, they would see the truth of no-self and that would threaten the shit out of religion and even "scientific" models of reality. So this teaching would be fiercely contested by pretty much every side. Doing honest personal development is a very threatening thing to most people. One day we'll get there. But not soon.

Actualized.org it is a pretty sensitive topic for people. I remember trying to show a video of jiddu krishnamurti to a friend. His initial thought was that i was joining a cult or something. He seemed very defensive. I imagine talking to someone less evolved could be seriously chaotic. Honestly i have so many questions in my head i know i won't get answered here or soon. Only time will answer them. All in all it is refreshing to know that you "truth seekers" exist. For a while i thought i was completely alone. Like batman with no Alfred. Also when i asked "why they don't teach this in school?", i already had an idea of the answer, I was just curious to see peoples response to the question. :)

This is the 2nd or 3rd of your videos that I've watched. I've enjoyed all of them. I particularly enjoy listening to the ways in which an articulate individual explains or describes something in a completely different way than I would. I couldn't help but notice a bit of a dichotomy & contradiction though. Several times you emphasize the importance of not classifying certain emotions as good or bad, yet moments later you are referring to good or bad emotions :-) One of the more important abilities & habits we have as humans, which seems to be deeply ingrained in our nature is the almost compulsion to categorize & classify things- to judge things... That is what allows to move from the more basal, lower frequency thoughts & states to the higher ones through the process of simplification through classification. As you explained, this frees us from consciously thinking about breathing to stay alive- as a more extreme example. My point is, advising someone to stop doing something that is so deeply embedded in their habits- and that serves us so well, has little chance of success, unless instead you offer a replacement which yields superior results. There;'s no way we are going to really be able to stop judging & classifying everything we experience & encounter. I think the key is in learning better ways of doing so which are ultimately more useful to us. You did go over these ideas but your own continued reliance & use of those labels does not make your case very convincing. I found the labeling pairs: pleasant & unpleasant, and productive & unproductive to be good substitutions that are also more useful to my decision making process in getting results more in tune with my ultimate, higher goals...

It's true that most of the time, people have a hard time describing exactly what and how they are feeling. They cannot find the right words to describe their emotions. It's because we lack emotions vocabulary. They don't teach this at school. But having a wide emotions vocabulary enables us to differentiate our emotions. Differentiating our emotions helps us to regulate them better. We wrote an article about that on our website. It's called: "To regulate your emotions, differentiate them". We encourage you to read it if you want to learn more about how to expand your emotions vocabulary and differentiate your emotions better.

' ' your emotions are like a language that kind of bridges the barrier between total unconsciousness and consciousness.' ' It is really like learning a language.' 'They do great.' 'Most animals do great. Survival and reproduction.^^ but if you want to take yourself to the highest potential as a human being, if you want to accomplish great things, what you want is deep long lasting happiness in your life.then you have to start to unwire the the most negative stuff. it makes you worry.' ' Stop judging your emotions. Stop yourself feel through it. because we just react to our emotions. If it is a bad emotion, we just want it to go away. It never occurs to us that we can just stop and look at it. It is the best way of managing it.' ' Develop a lot of emotional awareness.''' Whatever it is, feel it, notice it, write it down. When you develop more awareness, you develop higher EQ, you start to master your emotions, you start to master your life.' (I like to add things. those negative feelings are not going away. There are the reasons. If you understand the reason why you are angry and furious, or etc, you still can do change it in a very civilized way and have peace with it. Understand trauma and past and so on. Those are things connected to your present feelings. That's why negative feelings also have powerful message. not just it is tuned to survival. I think. Maybe, you were threatened to survive in the past. -trauma. sometimes when you are reacting to certain situation, unnecessarily, intensively, and you know it. that it means that actually, reacting to your hurt in the past. or wrong beliefs that you have carried from your childhood. Dig deeper. Our feelings are also connected to our deep rooted and unconsciousness memories and thoughts, and our past which is in the unconsciousness area. (I strong agree ! I am finding awesome resolutions as soon as I interpret the message that my emotions carry. Why I made decisions with flaws all the time. because I didn't know that our emotions carry such important information. I ignored my emotions all my life. leads me to chronic depression and very unhappy unsuccessful life. I agree that we don't need to act on raw feelings but truly need to understand our feelings! There are roots and layers and layers of our emotions if we investigate them. I agree that we build a "primitive communicate system'. to understand our emotions. truly. You should acknowledge them and interpret them properly. Then it helps to make a right decision. Thanks!)

I am used to watching your older videos from, let's say 11 months ago, and here you seem wiser, more grounded, more centered, more controlled, not so much spontaneous and reactive, more tired. Interesting transformation is going on there ... Just sayin' 😃. We appreciate what you're doing although you're probably independant of this good opinion of mine 😃
