to be fair, healing against sans during his attacks is a pretty bad move and a waste of a turn. its better to endure his attacks until you get that >one< chance to heal. in all my runs of this dude, i've only ever had to heal there and before his finale

GhostlyToast Yes, it’s a wasted turn to heal during his attacks, but I’d rather spend the one turn to make sure I have the HP for a few attacks than have to no-hit until the break in the fight. Also, you literally just admitted to healing before the final attack which in itself, is a wasted turn.

Theory: before sans' promise from toriel, he probably would kill some humans or at least weaken them in different places because the souls made it to different places of the underground and ofc undyne killed most humans. Hey , you finally got there! Here's a few tips for the fight: - You *need* to keep attacking, since his dialogue only advances if you do. You can heal, but it wastes time and the fight is really long, so you need to consider it well. The fight only progresses if his dialogue does. - Sans "poisons" you, so his attacks deal damage over time, but always stop at 1hp - Unlike other bosses, Sans' attacks only deal one damage, but never disappear and damage super quickly. - Sans can throw you on the ground, and then attacks you. You need to react fast to jump in the opposite direction - The laser beams (gaster blasters) always attack in the direction they're facing. Later on, they'll start facing directly towards you, so you'll need to react fast. This fight is seriously hard, by far the most difficult one in the entire game actually, but it's worth it in the end. Keep trying to learn the patterns and find out how to dodge them. It's all about muscle memory. Good luck! (Oh and no, sans didn't take a human soul. He's still the weakest enemy in the game!)

coming back to this, i like how this fight just makes you realize that sans actually is technically part of the royal guard. hes a sentry (said so himself when you first meet him) of the royal guard who monitors parts of the underground like an overseer (probably because he can teleport to scout things out and keep watch of many areas at the same time) and hes the last line of defense that your forced to get through to meet the king, and will judge your character and intentions before letting you through to meet him.

As far as I’m aware, the “poison” effect on your health (the KR next to your HP) that happens anytime you get hit by one of Sans’ attacks is called “Karma”. The Karma will never directly kill you, but it will at most bring you to 1 HP. It will only ever happen when you get hit by any of Sans’ attacks.

Notice how Sans isn't actually doing high amounts of damage. He's just doing 1 damage repeatedly, over and over-- with no invincibility frames. Plus his poison KR stuff.

Burnt Pan - Heals extra when you eat items Bscotch Pie - Save this for when you need it the most, heals 99hp Instant Noodles - Back in the fridge in Aplhys's lab, heals 90hp Face Steak - Buy it from BurgerPants in the hotel, heals 60hp Snowman Piece - If you have any left, the 40hp helps Legendary Hero - Also at the hotel, fill the rest of your inventory with these, they heal 40hp and boost your attack
