Oppenheimer also stars Oscar® winner Rami Malek and reunites Nolan with eight-time Oscar® nominated actor, writer and filmmaker Kenneth Branagh.
The cast includes Dane DeHaan (Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets), Dylan Arnold (Halloween franchise), David Krumholtz (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story) and Matthew Modine (The Dark Knight Rises).
The film is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Christopher Nolan.
Oppenheimer is filmed in a combination of IMAX® 65mm and 65mm large-format film photography including, for the first time ever, sections in IMAX® black and white analogue photography.
Nolan’s films, including Tenet, Dunkirk, Interstellar, Inception and The Dark Knight trilogy, have earned more than $5 billion at the global box office and have been awarded 11 Oscars and 36 nominations, including two Best Picture nominations.

They (Hollywood) really, REALLY need to get people back in the theaters. Since COVID, we all went out and bought 65" tvs for our living rooms, so a standard format movie screen, along with all the cost and baggage associated with going to the theater (people talking, having to wear masks, inconvenient times) just isn't appealing anymore. I'm not a fan of paying $20 for a single ticket, but IMAX is a rare treat for the movies that really take advantage of the format.

Nolan is not known for directing actors to Oscar wins. Heath Ledger is the only actor that has been nominated (and won) an Oscar in a Nolan film. And I wouldn't say Nolan had much to do with Ledger's incredible performance. Nolan is a spectacle director and his talent in directing actors is very average.

Dunkirk was dead-on for Oscars best picture, but they didn't give it because it is a different kind of war film with no emotional story beats. cinema is dying because younger generation are not interested in driving down to a "movie theater" to watch a $15 movie when they can just stream infinite movies from their couch for $15 a month. A bigger format won't change that. Quite the contrary, it would raise the ticket price, pushing these people away even harder. For reference, a movie ticket here in Belgium costs 14 euro. You want IMAX? It's 19 euro.

Its not that simple. Imax would increase ticket prices, making it an even easier decision to just say "I'm going to wait for it to come to streaming". Also, I think you're confusing the common factor here. People are not going to watch Oppenheimer, or Tenet, or Interstellar because it's in IMAX, they go to watch it because it's a Christopher Nolan film. At the same time if some really poor film with poor reviews was filmed in IMAX, I don't think that's going to bring people to the cinema hall.

Cannot wait, Nolan is one of my favorite directors, I genuinely love all of his work. This looks incredible. Listening to what they say in here makes me recall the IMAX shorts and documentaries l watched at the 1992 Sevilla World Exhibition when main countries Pavilions competed with their best sensorial experience movie, helped with moving seats, huge and 360 degrees screens.That was brand new then. Unforgetable the icebreaker vessel at the Canadian Pavilion... Is it the nowadays cinema aim to make the audience feel like if we were inside the movie? The senses involved are only the sight and the hearing..

Nolan really likes to shoot in IMAX, and it is truly one of the most incredibly-immersive formats. Watched this on the biggest IMAX screen I could find, Oppenheimer is among some of Nolan's finest works such as The Dark Knight, Inception, and Interstellar.

My friends and I are flying to London to see this at the BFI when it comes out. We live in Bavaria, Germany, which is roughly 1000km and three separate countries away. Some films just have to be seen a certain way to really engage with them. We had this planned for six years now, ever since watching a digital DCP projection of Dunkirk. It didn’t work out for Tenet because of the pandemic but we’re doing it for real this time. And if the BFI for some reason don’t show it anymore by the 22nd of August, we’ll drive to Prague and watch it when it releases. It’s sad that analogue projection and IMAX 70mm is slowly dying.

A lot of people say that cinema is dead, and sometimes they are right because of the Hollywood system. But in this case, I’m gonna have to disagree; when it comes to Filmmakers, who truly cares on any subject matter, if it’s non-fictional or fictional motion, picture those Filmmakers to bring Cinema back to life in theaters. Even with the new technology and digital film that a lot of filmmakers use now these days, but when it comes to one or maybe three filmmakers who truly cares about cinema, they bring it to life in cinema. And Christopher Nolan is that Filmmaker, who could bring cinema back to life again. And once I get out of the movie theater, I’m gonna say Christopher Nolan is the next Stanley Kubrick because Kubrick quoted “either you care or you don’t.” And Christopher Nolan is the man who cares about cinema!
