The Muscle-Up is the calisthenics skill, that every bodyweight fitness enthusiast or athlete wants to get. This calisthenics, bodyweight fitness, muscle-up video has been created and designed for anyone struggle to get their first muscle up, or looking to improve their form. I am not a qualified PT, but just a relentlessly hardworking fitness enthusiast aged 59 years, who is getting stronger with age. Visualisation played a key part learning to get he muscle up, and it continues today, to help me improve my form, even on my rest days.
When I was aged 55, and got my first Muscle-Up, that video has 494k views on KZbin. A second video (Tutorial) I uploaded aged 58, has over 1.2 million views. So I thought I should make another about how visualisation has helped me achieve goals.
Follow along with this tutorial, or some of my others in my muscle up tutorial playlist and progress through the progressions to get your Muscle-Up.

Extraordinary and inspirational. I have a bad habit of forcing a new exercise and suffering injuries. I forget im 54 and need to build up slowly. Back to the drawing board !

Oh brother I totally understand. I tried to learn a human flag, damaged my shoulder by kept going. Couldn’t then do a push-up for a few months!

Love this! Do you mind me asking a few questions? How long have you been training in calisthenics? What fixings did you use in the wall? I worry my 110kg would damage the bricks!

Hi Simon, I started when I was 54, so 5 years ago. My bar is secured with big screws and wall plugs, and fortunately the bricks are really tough. I weigh 80kg, and I’ve added 40kg to my weighted pull-up belt, making me 120kg. So the bar is strong enough, but I guess it depends on the strength of your bricks.

Everyone is different, but personally between 3 and 5 times a week.

I usually train pull-ups 3 times a week. Then a few days of other things that may include muscle ups.

How long did it take you to work through all of the bands? And did you ever hit any plateaus?

I got my first muscle up after about 3 or 4 months. Yes and plateaus all the time. I just kept on training..

I’d say more important to focus on the strength… the skills, maybe once a week.
