Stu! My friend! It's been exactly 1 year since I started playing the ukulele! I knew how to play C F and G7 chords from childhood, so that's where i started. I remember watching you that first week and you were outside playing Fulsome Prison. That's when i realized "I can do this!" I knew that you can take simple chords and make it sound difficult and special just by strumming and chucking. I soon began to pick up on other chords, i.e., Am Dm D7 C7, A, D , then as late as this past summer/fall started using E7 Em A7 G11 and a C that hangs out around the 7th fret. I still struggle with E, D and Bs, and barring always ends up sounding doinky. Idk why they are so difficult for me. 🫤. l start exploring fingerpicking and just picking out songs without looking them up on the web. I have a book of songs i wrote out and up the chords above the words last year that I haven't used in months now. I discovered that it's easier to memorize and pick songs out after you get many chords under your belt. This past Christmas, I learned to finger pick O Holy Night and Lullay Thou Little Tiny Child. At this point, I'm attempting fingerpicking on every song that "feels" like it should be picked. Doesn't always sound good, but I'm making the effort. Its clear to me there are scads of chords and chord melody options out there I need to get into. So my goal for 2023 is learning chord melodies. It's a new year and I'm ready for new challenges! Thanks for being out there and ready to teach as always! God bless you!
