I had an ankle sprain last year if what you two had is or at least partially a high ankle sprain then resting and wearing an ankle brace ahould help lighten the pain when in motion, it's important to do excersises for it too, the one I remember best is going against a vertical wall and setting your toes on it and pushing into it,(your torso should get closer to the wall) the reverse method would be on the edge of a step hang half of your foot over the edge and bend downwards(your toes pointing down). one way to check if your making progress is to balance yourself on that foot, it should get easier as time goes by. Mine took maybe 4 months to completely heal.

At this point it should be better. So, since it is not, I would recommend further orthopedic evaluation to make sure there isn't something else causing continued pain like a talar dome lesion or tear of the ligamentous tissue in that area. Have you tried a sports brace or compression sock to try to hold the lower bones in the ankle together. Sometimes that can take a load off of the "splaying" joint if in fact your have a high ankle sprain. Good luck

One of the best most complete video on high ankle sprains thank you! May I ask if I can wear a lace up brace to immobilize instead of the walking boot? I found ever time I wear the walking boot it reaggravates the sprain and pain.

I was doing a 2 mile walk and still got a high ankle sprain , but I walk walking fast and I guess maybe decline hills were there too

I was playing football and got a kick I think its a high ankle sprain.... After couple of days of R.I.C.E treatment there's no pain however I'm unable to run without pain... I think I am probably impatient with the recovery what are your thoughts on this

Hello doc. I think I have high ankle sprain and there is this small bone in front of my left ankle which is my right foot doesn’t have and that’s keeping me away from lifting my foot up and down and after I played basketball or any intense movement I have trouble fully down my foot like I can barely walk. If I have to run after the intense movement front tissue of my ankle won’t allow me and it’s in total pain that I can’t even walk. What should I do? ( I’m sorry if there are any potential grammatical errors. English is actually my 3rd language)

I tweaked the same area of my left ankle by just stretching my leg out behind me and touching the top of my foot to the floor lightly. It was such a stupid thing and now 2 days later my ankle is starting to flare up from it. Can I just learn to tape my ankle or should I get it looked at and get a boot?

Curious I know this video is old… but my ankle sprain def seems to be a high ankle sprain. But going up my fibula it feels tender and sore…can that be just apart of the high ankle sprain or does having that pain associated have a higher chance it’s a possible stress fracture on the tibula ?

I know this is an old video but just a quick question. I'm not sure how I did it but I woke up with some ankle pain (relative to soreness) and gradually over the course of 3 weeks the pain began to become substantial with a lot of pain while walking, going up and down stairs, while resting it etc. I thought maybe a hairline fracture (but no significant swelling just lots of pain about 2 inches above my ankle bone and into my leg/knee area. Which is around the back of my calf muscle.) I went to a walk in clinic and they took an x-ray of my ankle and said no fracture's so they gave me an ace bandage and said to rest and ice but that it shouldn't impact my day to day activity or work. I have been doing this with no aide to the pain (actually it is getting worse and weight-bearing is more intense and even driving is painful to a high degree and now I am experiencing numbness in my leg and foot) any idea what this could be or how I should explain it for proper evaluation? Thanks :)

I would make sure that this is not a low back herniated disc which can cause ankle pain and go up the leg and cause numbness.

I had to go to the ER 4 nights ago after a fall up the stairs coming to immediate swelling. They diagnosed it as an ankle sprain after no fractures were found in x-rays. However, i can't move my toes other than the big toe, and can not move my foot side to side, and without the brace they gave me if i pick my foot up i can literally feel my foot stay in place for a split second while the rest of my leg moves then it just dangling there. Its incredibly painful and swollen. Any recommendations?? anything would help immensely...this comment is up late because i cant sleep because of the injury.

I recently twisted my ankle outwards and i have pain on my deltoid ligament and fibularis longus. I dont know what this is but i have no pain in any of my bones and I only feel pain when each of the muscles is engaged.

Hi i inverted and have high ankle sprain about almost seven weeks ago and about second weeks in got an mri scan done and at first report they said anything looks normal but my ankles was swollen and leg was a little bruiced so I had them go over it agian and the second report says that there's subcortical marrow edema and edema all over my foot and ankle but all the legaments and tissue are intact. I've been in a aircast for about almost six now. I've been doing the R.I.C.E. I went through doctor and 2 specialist going by what the mri is reading. Telling I don't have a sprain its just in my head. I'm so lost and need of help. Can you please give me some adviced?
