How do you export your character from maya to unreal ? what do you select ? only the geometry? what fbx settings do you use ? I either get a ton of error when importing, or no error but it's not the correct geo :/

Just did a whole bunch of testing with this and I gotta say. My mind is blown. I'm literally animating in Maya and I'm using the engine as an extra viewport. A fully rendered REAL TIME viewport (go immersive mode)! I've been working in film vfx for 20 years and this has been a fantasy of mine for a LONG time. Guys, this is very exciting stuff. Thanks.
I love you Unreal Engine, But for the love of god next time you say "The build info is in the documentation" PLEASE just explain how to install it, I just spent 3 hours trying to get this damn thing to work on Maya 2019 and wasted my night, finally got it installed but jesus that was a pain. DO NOT follow the link in the documentation, download from the unreal app store and then the plugin will be in your Engine folder of your unreal folder. I know he said this in the video but I had not yet downloaded the plugin from the store, did not see it there and went on a tirade to find in the online documentation where I got abunch of codes that I am absolutely clueless on how to use

Hi I see in your video you have a fully rigged character from paragon. i am currently working on a animation of my own and i would like to use a rig from paragon or the market from unreal but I just cant figure out how to transport the rig from unreal to maya. Can we use Live link to render out scenes from a cartoon series we are making ? for example, we have a shot with two characters, in a forest, so the forest is created in Unreal engine, we have the characters imported into Unreal engine and blueprint actors created from them, now the problem is , if the two characters are dancing in the animation we have done in maya, and the maya camera just goes around them 360, how do we bring this into unreal and set them up in the forest we created, if we drag the characters in to the viewport the actual world space will it match, then how does the camera match ? can live link solved these problems ?

When I export a paragon character with cloth physics to maya I can see the bones but not the mesh. If I delete cloth physics in UE it works but I want to keep them. Anyone has a clue?

Anything with 8 to 16 gigs of RAM processing power if you want the normal PC/Mac that can handle these conventional operations. While anything extremely powerful with up to 120 or more dual layered overclocked motherboards that have been custom built to handle vast amounts of processing capabilities, if you wanted to truly show off. And set your system up with "render farms" companies, to help fully render your work outside your own PC/Mac setups etc. Ask around or those on the Unreal Engine channel themselves, i'm sure they have way better advice than myself? Wish you all the best man. Thumbs up!

Hi, I was able to make the unreal Maya Link successfully. However, it updates in real time only the bones. Is the plugin capable of updating the blendshapes in real time? It would be interesting for the facial mocap.

Fred Reis Oh by the way I did manage to get something work as I want it to in UE4. Its kind of a workaround but, I can control and tweak blendshapes realtime in live link like joint data. I'll explain it via mail if you'd like :)

Maya is a lot easier to work with with then max, assuming it either cannot be done or maya is easier so they are doing it first before doing max.

The Unreal Documentation says the MEL command is "MayaLiveLinkU" and NOT "MayaLiveLinkUI" like you have shown us in this video. I could only get it working once I watched your video. Thank you! Blender requires plugins be open sourced and GPL licensed. It's not clear the Epic devs would want to release code with a license like that.

With all this talk of lacking 3Ds Max, Autodesk or those asking for a Blender plugin. How's about asking for any kind of smoother connection between Unreal Engine 4 and Adobe After Effects? Or have people forgotten some of us out there use UE4 for their interests in films not just gaming. *Same for Blender* Blender ain't getting left behind, it might require a later patch update but Unreal Engine isn't leaving Blender out at all. Can't see'em leaving it out since its previous worked so well with Blender currently and others like; 3ds Max and Autodesk. Be real patient these things will merely receive updates down the road is all.

*3ds max is obsolete* ^Windows XP for example; is way more obsolete if you're talking about age. And you'll be quite surprised how many businesses or homes say they still use Windows XP or Vista for crying out loud. 3ds Max isn't Obsolete, and people love older 'retro' stuff more and more these days.
