I rewatched this today and was so grateful to go over it again. It’s loaded. It’s funny that ever since I remember reading and comprehending, I have loved the greeting for the school of the prophets. I long for the day when Satan is bound and we can freely love our brothers and sister. When the pure love of Christ answers the end of the law and we can get past what Elder Maxwell called ,”a reception line society.” Where spirit can reach spirit. Thank you for all your insights. I love it where you explain something and I already understand it. It’s just nice to know that I got it before someone had to teach it to me. 😊

A few years ago I ran across a definition of meekness from the Oxford dictionary that really helped me understand that characteristic in a person better. I had always struggled with it, not having words to define it. It said--Meekness has been contrasted with humility as behavior toward others, whereas humility refers to an attribute towards oneself--meekness meaning restraining one's own power, so as to allow room for others. As you were discussing meekness, I began thinking how humility refers to our relationship with God, or the first and great commandment, and meekness refers to the second. Once again that cross analogy that is so beautiful.

Thank you for this beautiful lesson. I understand this chapter and others so much more because of your teachings. I love listening and learning from you.
@jasonhirst88203 жыл бұрын
That describes well how I've come to understand humility and meekness. Humility is about being teachable, to recognize truth, and God is the source of that truth, so humility is a submissiveness to God (not to men, who often teach things that are not true). Meekness is not using your power to elevate yourself above others, consciously choosing to serve others instead of to be served by others. Strength or power is there for a prerequisite to meekness, otherwise it is just weakness.

I received my Patriarchal Blessing when I was 14 years old. I really wanted to receive it and anxiously anticipated an intimate conversation from God to me through his Patriarch. I sat in humble amazement at the profound words pouring over my head. Many verses from this Section 88 are specifically given to me - including verses 78 and 79. I pondered how on earth I would be able to accumulate such knowledge, and do as the Lord asked of me. All these years later, it was showing up for my required meetings, personal prayer and scripture study. That and a healthy love of Natural Medicine, Constitutional Law, and a great love of Nature. He knew me better than I knew myself at that age! I love this section so much, I'm going to do it again right now. Thanks for a wonderful lesson.

To offer the alms of prayer is to give our will to God in prayer. Meaning- only speak what the spirit moves you to speak in your prayer- and only close the prayer when the spirit moves you to close the prayer. God knows all of our hearts, minds and needs- prayer is meant to commune with Him. Giving words to the light of Christ that is within you is an alm- for you are giving up your agency to align yourself with God. This is Mighty Prayer. Though this process your words will be answers to your prayers as you testify before your maker of what Christ’s Spirit is testifying to you- and as the Holy Ghost bears witness.

Your thoughts about vs 130 reminded me of this poem that I love and try to implement as I teach my children… The Teacher Lord, who am I to teach the way To little children day by day, So prone myself to go astray? I teach them knowledge, but I know How faint the flicker and how low The candles of my knowledge glow. I teach them power to will and do, But only now to learn anew My own great weakness through and through. I teach them love for all mankind And all God's creatures, but I find My love comes lagging far behind. Lord, if their guide I still must be, Oh, let the little children see The teacher leaning hard on Thee. --Leslie Pinckney Hill

I was so amazed by your retelling of the incident with the speeding Elders and the policeman who stopped them. I have to tell you that my husband & I were serving our mission in the New Mexico Farmington Mission in 2014. We were stationed at Indian Wells Arizona about 40 miles north of Holbrook. I was scheduled to play the piano for a baptism and I was running just a little late and had a a sort of a heavy foot on the gas pedal when I too was stopped by a policeman. He inquired as to where I was going to which I replied that I was going to play the piano for a baptism being held at the Holbrook Stake Center. He then suggested that if I would quote to him the 12th Article of Faith that he would not issue a traffic violation. How grateful I was that I had the Articles of Faith memorized and could satisfy his request! He then encouraged me to continue on to my destination with the admonition to take it a little slower! We love your lessons, Elder Halverson! We use your B of M discussions as our B of M daily reading as well as taking advantage of all of your discussions of the D & C and we are looking forward with great anticipation to your lessons on the Old Testament next year. Keep up this awesome work you are engaged in! We are so very grateful for your knowledge & understanding of the scriptures & the insights that you share!

I had an amazing experience one day as a counselor in RS. I was awakened by a phone call from someone I didn't know. Turned out to be a High Councilman in my Stake who was waiting at the Bishop's storehouse for a woman to receive her food order. Unfortunately, he had run out of time and had to leave, so he was desperately trying to find someone to take his place until this sister arrived. An incredible feeling took over me. There was nothing else in the world I would rather do! This feeling of pure, Heavenly love filled me to the brim. I could hardly hold back my zeal as I got dressed and quickly went where I was needed. It wasn't a chore, it was an amazing privilege to help this sister and this good elder. When I got there, I prayed for this sister and her family. I thanked my Heavenly Father for the opportunity to serve her over and over. My heart was full of love for the Lord. I needed to know that I could love serving my brothers and sisters. Now I know that this beautiful experience showed me Celestial love and the desire to serve can be bestowed upon us if we seek it. This wonderful experience helps me to seek it every day nowI

Thanks again for another wonderful uplifting and insightful lesson. We especially like your exploration of the verse that teach Christ is in all and through all. It reminds us of our brief "liturgical journey" where we learned the Saint Patrick's Breastplate Prayer which says in part, "I arise today Through the strength of Christ's birth with His baptism, Through the strength of His crucifixion with His burial, Through the strength of His resurrection with His ascension, Through the strength of His descent for the judgment of doom.... I arise today, through The strength of heaven, The light of the sun, The radiance of the moon, The splendor of fire, The speed of lightning, The swiftness of wind, The depth of the sea, The stability of the earth, The firmness of rock. Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise, Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me...." Thanks again. We quote from you every chance we get.
