The great thing about hunting for rocks on Montana's Yellowstone River is that even on days when you don't find a ton of agates, there are always treasures to be discovered. In this video, Kate and Jim find all kinds of delightful and unusual rocks, from a red jasper and agate limbcast to a colorful coral, from odd quartz crystals to an incredible, huge fortification agate. The sun is shining, and so are the finds! Come along.:)

Wow, that porcelinite is nice. Jasper/TSA is beyond awsome. Webs all over that rock. Cava needs boots too. So we can watch her walk funny😂. The agatized/limbcast was superb.

Hi, she has boots, and she DOES walk funny when I put them on! She doesn't care for them, though, so I only use them when absolutely necessary.

I’ve been watching your videos for a long time and finally subscribed! Hubby and I lived in Cody, Wyoming for 2 years and loved every adventurous moment! We have been back 3 years in a row and. Rockhound at every chance. We love the rocks in Wyoming and Montana. Finally stopped at a boat launch last summer on the Yellowstone, and now hubby is excited to rockhound there! In the mean time, I vicariously rockhound with you, your hubby, Theo & his fiancée! (I also have followed Theo for a long time). If I had grown up out there, I would have become a geologist! I’ve learned a lot from watching both of u, especially the identifying of rocks & minerals less familiar to me. ROCK ON

I really enjoy your rock hunts and how you show them cleaned up after each find. That red jasper limb cast is gorgeous! I’m so envious of your rocks out there, but I have to laugh when you get excited about finding pink quartz or quartzite. Quartz and quartzite is what we have lots of here in VA. The west side of our county , which butts up against the Blue Ridge Mountains, has blue quartz. I found some in the new river stone lining the back of my yard and Costco’s parking lot.😁

The banks of the Puget Sound, where I live, a lot of the time when the tide is out silt dulls the rocks making it hard to find good stuff. It's best right after a storm and then the rocks won't be covered in silt. You always have a few good finds. Have a happy rock collecting time.

The name of the rock isn't specific - it's the name of the pattern, which is "stockwork." It's cool, isn't it?

Quite far from the park - but the Yellowstone River actually starts there, and you can find rocks along the river just outside the park. Agates not so much - but like you said, all rocks are agates when you are four. :)

If you knew anything about geese, they were not at all alarmed. If they had been, they would not have landed about 20 feet away. The only feathers ruffled were yours.
Where to find HUGE agates. Easy pickings, great color!
