When I first heard Ryan sing this song, I was homeless after my children were taken by the state. I didn't have anything left in me to fight but I wasn't ready to give up. Here I am 15 months later, I signed a lease for an apartment for a year with enough room for my children. I still see them three times a week and Im fighting harder than I ever have for them. I managed to keep employment even though I lived in my car for 5 months. Thank you for your help to inspire me through this song and ur music. Update: My 6 year old with be back in my custody full time on October 20, 2020. I have been fighting so hard but its so worth the fight. He has been with me 4 days a week.I'm still fighting for the others and it shouldnt be long. Thank you for all the positive comments. I really appreciate all the love and support. For you assholes that said negative comments or said I was a junkie, it was actually because of their father. He was an alcoholic, I had no choice but to leave my children with him while I went to work! DCF was notified that my children were in the care of an alcoholic and they were taken the next day. Its been about 2 years and I'm closer than ever to getting my children back ❤

My dad was my best friend. He passed away on May 8, 2010 to an overdose. I was 17. Today, July 16, 2018 would be his 53rd birthday. He loved Layne Staley, and I grew up around this music playing constantly: we lived outdoors for the most part; camping, hiking, fishing, etc. His last few years, he lived in a trailer park in Snohomish, WA, and I was away from him mostly because of my mom. But when I was with him, we spent so much time around the fire at the river, with our fishing poles in the water, our Mexican buddies lighting up joints, all of us just having a blast. Every time I hear this song I'm instantly brought back to the river, to the bonfires, to a comforting memory of my father holding me closely as a teenager, a kid. I really love this. Update: 2020 this song still brings me to tears every time ❤️ amazing I've found the community of love in a KZbin comment section is all the comfort you need sometimes when life gets hard

Upchurch called addicts like layne the lowest of the low. Layne wouldn’t want some half assed cover by someone who thinks like that.
@motherofhounds3837 Жыл бұрын
@@Ep0nz You know what? Addicts are the lowest of the low sometimes. The thing is, they are still people and they can change and they can atone for the things they did wrong. It's really difficult to be the loved one of an addict. Think about Layne's Mom, she found him 2 weeks after he died. Layne systematically set up his life so he could feed his addiction and die on his own terms. That's really selfish too.Layne was a very sick man but I love him to this day and always will. Ryan understands all of this. Seems to me the only person who doesn't understand this, is you. I am an addict in long term recovery, I just celebrated 9 years on May 12th. I am still, all these years later, gaining back trust and respect of the people I hurt the most. Nobody thinks as a kid "When I grow up, I want to be a heroin addict". You have no clue what Layne would want. None whatsoever.

He uses autotune here, Layne never used it.
@bratshats4 жыл бұрын
@@tsunamisun2369 I'll give you that one, though it's a pretty subtle use of autotune. I take it he used it for recording Creeker 2, where his voice emulates the gravelly tones of Layne throughout (autotune can only do so much before sounding obviously like autotune. In this case, it's subtle, and even with it, it doesn't take away from the fact that 1. The emotion is most certainly there, and 2. Find me someone other than Aaron Lewis to pull off this song successfully. NOBODY can pull off Layne, but some subtle autotune isn't going to negate the fact that this cover is very well done. He kept the sound, he kept the emotion, and chose not to make the cover "his" by tweaking the score/time/notes)? I normally DESPISE autotune, as I've been trained in piano, cello, guitar, and bass, and feel post-production tends to take away from raw music anymore, and it tends to ruin it. But, just because you state it's autotuned, isn't going to make me enjoy listening to this cover any less, because it does not blatantly take over his voice, nor does it take away from the song. It's still pleasing to the ear, and almost every long-time AIC fan I have played this for has enjoyed it. He's obviously not using T-Pain's, Carly Rae Jepson's, or the Disney Crew's autotune guy. It's not glaringly obvious, so I'm not seeing the huge issue.
@tsunamisun23694 жыл бұрын
@@bratshats Of course it's not a huge issue. Anyone can do what they want. I just see all these comments about how it's perfect and I know that he used autotune, and most people don't. If you listen to the original there's much more of a human element to it. To me, that human element is more important than "perfection". EDIT: I do actually know people personally that can "pull off" this song, It's actually not that difficult technically speaking as long as they have the emotion behind it.
@Jakeya664 жыл бұрын
@@tsunamisun2369 kinda like the debate on who does Hurt better. Cash's version is fantastic, maybe even better to some. But it doesn't touch the human element part that the original artist put into it.

Yep! 44 years young here! I wore the ep out! This song is one of the most important songs on the soundtrack of my life. Thank God I have come out of the dark times in my life when heroin was my best friend/worst enemy, and my only comfort. I feel Layne's pain, and I know that anyone who's ever been in those shoes has had some very intimate talks with God, and I know God feels our pain. I said all that to say this...I believe God has wiped away every tear from Layne's eyes and taken him away from that pain, and is now showering him with the love this world couldn't give him. His music has forever changed my life and I still listen to it and draw strength from it. Although we never met, we know each other well. RIP brother.
