We’ve been following you for a while and love your enthusiasm for the outdoors! Each year we pick one or two of Of our favorite AT thru hikers to help out! We will be sending you some help sporadically throughout your hike via PayPal. I also want to add that we pretty much have a “baby” REI in regards to gear ( some never being used, so let me know if there are specific gear needs and we have it or can help out with it, we will. Oh and we will definitely say lots of prayers. Also, thank you for what your doing for Covid. Our entire family has been getting over Covid. I am the last one. I am on day 15 battling the Covid migraine and stomach upset. Praying it all ends soon! God Bless!

Do what makes you happy and comfortable and don't forget to have fun! screw the hiker anxiety. Let the truer parts of life make themselves known to you. Good luck, you got it.

It seems like each year there are a bunch of young healthcare professionals that thru hike the big trails. The earlier that you start. the better the views in GA and NC. Be aware that even starting April first, you could get snow in the Smokies. Checkout Michelle Martin's 2018 AT thru hike. Look at the River Country poncho($10) for rain gear and to cover your tent in a gullywhumper. In case it gets cold, carry a Heatsheet Emergency Blanket(bigger, stronger, and quieter than mylar). IceBear Hikes did reviews on both of them. The supply packages usually end up being expensive and too much stuff to carry. I hope that you are planning on taking an umbrella. You are going to have a great adventure but be carefull. Treat your clothes and gear with Sawyer Permethrin each month. The ticks and tick diseases are getting worse each year. Good Luck, Rick

Enjoy your videos. And as a former radio DJ found your broadcast journalism degree interesting. The AT sounds exciting. If you havent read or already heard of a book called A Walk In The Woods by Bill Bryson then I highly recommend it. It chronicles his hilarious attempt to thru hike the AT. One of the funniest books I have ever read. He pulls of dry humor in the written word. So small feat. And he is a voracious researcher. The information and history of the trail that he weaves into his narrative just made me lust for that hike even more. Anyway keep up the good work and good luck! Jeff Presley

I’d love to give you the details on a couple of those if you’re interested at some point! Obviously, that probably won’t be till 2022 cause you’ll be a little busy this float season! Good luck!

You definitely don't NEED to send boxes. If it's something you want, that's great, but if you feel like you SHOULD do it, there's no need at all. Easy to resupply all along the trail.

Boxes are good for changing out gear, buy your food as you go.

I totally agree! I just know I have some things like my protein powder, greens, vitamins, and poison ivy supps that will be difficult to find on trail. So likely will just be making up small boxes to re-up on those items. Good to have assurance that it will be easy to resupply on trail!

I've had CNOC Vecto bags since early 2019. Wise choice. I was video-ing myself using one at Proctor Creek in Kennesaw, GA. A brown watersnake slithered into the water nearby. I heard it. I didn't know what it was until I watched the video later.

@@kellyhays23 somebody else might get credit for recommending CNOC. I remember recommending it to Joshua, the Gray Bearded Green Beret, and it felt so awkward even though it really is much better than the one that was in his pack. Hi Kelly: I just threw you a few bucks into your PayPal. It’s what I had in mine to spare. You are just as charming as can be and since I am moving to the greater Fayetteville area right around the same time you start the AT it’s sorta the fact that you’re from Arkansas (my families home state) that made me want to help. Since now I know you’re a southern girl, a word on the AT: there’s a bit of dark history on that trail. You might want to very quietly bring real deal protection. Especially if you’re ultimately soloing. You’ll make tons of trail friends but they’ll be lone nights too and it traverse’s a lot of different regions. I’ve been backpacking since the 80’s when I was a little-little kid and it’s not the same anymore. Bad people have the trail culture figured out. You have a great life ahead. Protect it. Prayers up. 🏕❤️

how does health insurance work in that situation? Is “greens powder” the same concept as Ruff Greens for your pet? I followed Screwball 2020 last years or his through hike. That dude’s legit and did the entire thing old school (exception being that he took a couple of weeks ofF when covid first became a big deal to the people at the ATC). He did it without the need for “super gear” (e.g. a $1,000,000 backpack)

Oooo health insurance..now that is something else I need to get figured out. Glad you brought that up haha. Not sure what ruff greens is, but the greens powder will supplement certain micronutrients that are found in veggies. I will have to check out his page. Sounds like my kind of dude. No need for expensive gear if you can make what you have work!
