We bought the 2022 Lexus UX250h and absolutely LOVE it, including the trackpad. That said, I would have liked the new touchscreen and wireless Apple car play in the 2023. Interesting fact: In the summer we got 5.3L/100km but now in winter it’s more like 6.4L/100 km. It averages around 5.7L/100 km. Great car!!!!

My wife got a US market UX250H Premium AWD in October. It's been perfect for her 2 hour round trip commute, delivering 40 mpg through a New England winter. We don't have kids, so the small size isn't an issue. My 2010 Fit (her old car) has far more cargo space, but the luxury of the UX is amazing. It's a proper small luxury car. Definitely more of a hatchback than crossover. The styling is actually pretty attractive to me. The Nori Green pearl gets a ton of compliments. It was $43k with dealership add-ons a la carte: optional black wheels, wireless charging, all weather mats and heated steering wheel. Fantastic car so far. I'm super impressed with it.

This is the perfect car for me. I currently have the RX350 and it has served me well for a decade. I test drove the UXH on a snowy day in Ottawa and it handled really well. Love the upgrades that I will get with the Luxury package. The UXH are made in Japan. As an empty nester soon, I don’t have to worry so much about the back seats and we have two cars. I ordered mine in nori green! I should get it on time for my birthday this summer ❤ Thank-you for the great review.

I drove a used 2020 UX and a new 2023 UX hybrid. The difference is remarkable. The 2023 is better in every sense - quieter, a bit more powerful, more comfortable, better entertainment system, etc. But I'm leaning toward the NX hybrid. While I could make due with the limited space in the UX, the NX price was only $5-7k more and met all my needs. If I'm going to pay all that money for a Lexus I don't want to regret the lack of space when I try to put something fairly large in the back.

I had a ‘23 UXh as a loaner while my 2022 Nx was getting its windshield replaced. I’m in south Florida and I was getting 46mpg while driving it the same way as my 2022 Lexus NX250 (same engine as the hybrid NX, without the battery). My NX I got 32mpg. The handling in the UXh is superb. The base speakers in the NX is way better than the base Ux speakers. I also adjusted the speaker’s settings too. The UXH is way smoother than the NX. I don’t know if it’s because the NX has run flats. The steering in the UX is way sportier. It’s heavy like it should be and the acceleration is quite punchy (more than my nx250, but I bet the nx350h is punchy too with the electric motor). And yes, the drone is VERY quiet unless you’re flooring it. I used to have a ‘21 Prius and the Ux is a MAJOR improvement. I wish I drove the ‘23 Prius to compare to the ‘21. The brake feel is really good in the UX and you feel less potholes in it too. The one thing I didn’t like about the UXh is it doesn’t come with auto dimming rear view mirror standard, it’s an option. My NX had it standard and to be honest I don’t think I can ever go back to non-auto dim. The cabin noise is very good too. It’s similarly quiet as my NX. One thing I liked too is that the wireless apple CarPlay in the Ux is significantly better than the NX’s I have. I’m not sure if they improved it in the ‘23 NX, but my ‘22 always has issues connecting to my phone. The one week of driving the UX it never gave me an issue meanwhile my NX kept giving me issues daily. I always had to hold down the audio knob to do a hard restart for the apple CarPlay to maybe work the second time. The Ux worked every single time!!! After driving the UXh I might get the ‘23 Prius prime. I was super upset handing the UXh back. I really missed Toyota’s hybrid system. It’s very refined with the ecvt, meanwhile the 8 speed is WAY too unrefined. But like I said, I was shocked of the mpg of the UXh. very similar to a Prius….

13:48 - The 'AWD' here is more accurately (and honestly) described as an 'assist' and - as mentioned in the review - is not always on. Yes, it moves off the line, but is essentially a "slip 'n grip" system, where the front wheels spin for a bit before the read electric assist kicks in (which you can see every time the car pulled away from a stop 2:32, 2:44, 3:36).

Love the comparisons with the Venza? I have a 21 Venza Limited and at the time, I didn’t consider the UX or NX. That being said, living with the Venza for 17 months and 17K miles, the lack of a opening sunroof, antiquated navigation and screen resolution, the cheapness of materials and the constant drone of the ECVT is driving me nuts. If I were to choose now, I’d go with the new version of the NX. The Venza is ok just stay away from the Limited which is overpriced IMO. I’m waiting to see and drive the new Mazdas CX90 and CX70 when available.

If I were you I would look into the new ‘23 Prius. It has the same 2.0L engine and much improved power. It’s more powerful than the UXh and has better AWD from what I hear. For the $34k limited Prius it has ventilated seats, electric rear door, JBL, massive 12” display. It also has a lot of horse power now and goes 0-60 in like 7 seconds which is impressive considering it gets 54mpg. Usually you sacrifice mpg for power, but no more!

Engine oil: 0W-16 and I just stocked up some 0W-20 from costco due to on sale. Previously not all costco stock up 0w-20, and now I don't even think costco has 0W-16. So buying 0W-16 with retail price in bulk can be more pricy compared to 0W-20 wholesale, since insurance averaged people to drive 12k miles annually which equivalent to 2 oil change at 5k interval.

Hello Zach and Andrea, I truly enjoy your reviews, and wanted to add a bit of a family-with-kids perspective, prompted by your 2022 Prius and UX comparison. When fully using the second row and travelling to some warm place like Okanagan, the vent in the front row armrest (centre console), that serves the second row, becomes critically important for proper AC ventilation or warming in colder weather. If the vent in the centre console is missing, the entire second row lacks adequate comfort. This is commonly omitted as the second row is rarely tested. So the 2023 Prius does lack the centre console vent (similarly to my 2014 Prius) - that is highly noticeable by the second row occupants in both hot and cold weather. The 2023 UX does have the vent, but no useable room at the second row. So from the family-with-kids perspective for any extended distance in cold or hot climate - very unfortunately none is suitable, IMHO. When I went from 2014 Prius to 2021 RAV4 Prime one of the most important features was the vent in the centre console for the comfort of the second row passengers.
@Michaelthearcheangel
@Michaelthearcheangel Жыл бұрын
Having a family like yourself I totally agree. We've often wondered why in 2023 more vehicles don't have that very important feature. PLUS reviews usually ignore that feature but I think it's way too important to ever ignore it.

If you can't trust the information they give about the vehicle, then ask yourself if you can trust their opinion about the vehicle itself. ***receipts*** 3:40 where they state that Toyota followed Lexus with this platform. This is the Toyota New Global Architecture AKA (TNGA-C or GA-C) with the earliest production being the Toyota Prius in november or december of 2016, then the Toyota C-HR in June 2018, and finally in December of 2018 production started for the Lexus UX.

Sounds like a great model , albeit pricey city car for those who normally do not need the rear seat. I'm with Zack; I'd call it a hatch. The lift over in hatch area seems rather high. I would love to see more manufacturers offer a la carte options like in 60s when one could really "customize" their factory order. The practical frugal type (moi) would not opt for a Lexus or German brand runabout. If I were purchasing a "city" small hybrid this year, the Niro LX would be 1st on my list. More room, almost 20% better mpg, warranty twice as long, lots of lux features, and price for base model is ~ 10K USD less. Only thing missing on the Kia is AWD -- of course if you can afford a hybrid city car, you probably have AWD something else. You loose a lot when opting for the Lexus badge.

The smaller infotainment screen looks terrible in Lexus models. Good for Lexus to make the hybrid standard across the UX line up for 2023 but there's no denying that it's just completely behind pretty much anything in the subcompact luxury crossover space...

This UX, as is the case with the similarly-sized '23 Corolla Cross Hybrid are SELF-CHARGING HSD's, which DOESN'T REQUIRE YOU TO PLUG IN to charge the small (1.4 kWh) battery pack in this crossover. These can't run on just battery power, as it needs the ICE for propulsion. OTOH, PHEV's, like the Rav4 Prime or NX450h+ do require to plug in to charge the much larger (no more than 20 kWh) battery pack and can run on just battery power for awhile.

I was referring to electrification in general. Having an EV or PHEV in areas of cold weather is not very good also in wide open parts of Canada finding charging station is a crap shoot at best. So yes a hybrid may be a good alternative but not even talking about the carbon footprint for manufacturing and recycling of the batteries.

There goes the myth that you get more room in a crossover vs. a sedan. The Prius has much more room in the back, at least legroom. I wish the Lexus had less of a shiny screen surround and the 8 inch screen looks terrible in such a big surround. Otherwise, it's nice. Still, the Prius looks modern and just more interesting inside and out. The Lexus is better but the Prius is much more stylish.

I don’t know why car manufacturers make back seats that small? I’d give up hatch room for a bigger back seat. Also the infotainment system for the price is underwhelming. I think the best is once screen across like KIA or Mercedes are doing.

@syxepop
@syxepop 2 жыл бұрын
Zack and Andrea, I think we now got a problem with the '23 UX as it goes HSD-only, like several other Toyota-made products. The US-made '23 Corolla Cross Hybrid is basically the same vehicle (within 1" / 25mm in every stat) as the Japan-made UX250h (figure the equipment and assembly craftsmanship differences). But now the Toyota makes 16 MORE HP using the same 2.0L HSD combo than the Lexus, while being quite a bit less expensive (again, accounting for the differences between a model from a mainstream brand and from a luxury brand). Wonder how Lexus will now justify "the extra coin" for their UX. Sounds like this subcompact luxury crossover won't be available for much longer (maybe waiting for a "new CT" to replace the UX?).
