This old Late Victorian Villa built in 1890 is destined for the wrecking ball and has been left to decay for quite some time although it seems occupants were living pretty rough in here up til about June of 2018. this house is a time capsule in the sense it has it original period features of the late Victorian era and also classic 30`s face lift detailing including the home frontage and kitchen. Vintage items and some personal things including some photos have been left behind. his place has so much interesting details including nature and decay all while giving off a subtle eerie dark vibe that makes you wonder who and what went on here. Hope you enjoy the video. :-)

Such a sad feeling house. It reminded me of a lonely old man, who has given up on hope. Tired, careworn, simply waiting to return to the Earth. I think the updates were from the late 40's. The counters appeared to be covered in formica, also that metal sink and drain board both remind me of the kitchen in my grandma's house. You found what we called a skeleton key. Have a great weekend, take care and stay safe.

It sickens me to see a house with this much architecture left to rot. You see it here in the states too. With all the homeless around the world you'd think the governments would take these homes and with a little work before they get to this point fix them up and use them for the homeless whether as a group home for the bigger ones or a place to help the homeless make a fresh start so they can find work and have a real address. This should never happen in countries that are so big on human rights but don't care about the people in their own countries

Hi Richard and great points regarding the homeless, I do know some homes are rented out very cheaply due to their condition and this may have been one of them. Shame it has been left neglected so long. I guess it proves owners do not really care sometimes . cheers for watching :-)

I think garish paint colors and cheap paintbrushes should be made illegal to renters....Ha ha...the 'artistic' license exhibited here is just atrocious...they couldn't stick to their guns long enough to even finish their horrendous color schemes, a splash here, a swipe there....when a good broom with sanitary intentions would have been much more positive in its intent. I love Victorian architecture and lovely items from the past and hate to see objects from year's ago being desecrated in the manner that we see so often today....it seems that antiques and related architecture treasures are often treated with such disrespect due to a dearth of one's education or even a lack of exposure to the worth of our own history. This home was once the lovely possession of a proud new homeowner who probably worked very hard to be able to pay for it, and it was a home to house their family surrounded with love and care. I am glad the original owner cannot see how the poor edifice ended up....likely would have broken their heart. I know had it been my home, my heart would have been very sorely wounded. Thank you for your videos, I rather enjoy the natural decay on old farmhouses, etc...but this abode has been hard used (or abused) and the insults it has suffered by tenants or vanadals were not easy to witness. Be safe and thanks for your dedication to recording Australia's old homes from the past, before they are gone forever.

Oh to have seen this place in its original state. It would have been gorgeous! Wonder where the original kitchen had been, maybe that narrow bedroom and the pantry had been the original kitchen? I like the leaded glass windows, and amazed the mantels were still there! The walls deterioration was inside and out, I imagine there's not much hope for a building in that shape. That tool in the front room I believe was an electric hedge trimmer. Would have been handy in those areas where nature was taking over. So glad you found this one! Thanks for sharing.

Hi Donelle, yes this one would have been fantastic original, and it seems when the 30`s hit they gave it a stucco face lift and back kitchen along with some new ceiling work. he condition is poor and would take buckets of money to bring her back. Glad I found it too, chhers for watching :-)

Lovely in its time. There were some very beautiful details in this one. The wide wooden floorboards are one thing that gives away the age of the house. The fireplaces and the ceiling in the living room were still beautiful as well. I love those aches as well. They make a statement upon entry into the older homes. I often wonder why people paint homes with such bright, saturated colors. I find them quite jarring myself though I imagine some would love them. I was trying to suss out the people who would have lived there and painted the place with those colors. I was unsuccessful. There was definite evidence of squatters living there, but it looked as if they had moved on. A very interesting house. Thanks for the explore.

I'd sack the gardener and housekeeper. The roof needs a little work. The bathroom is painted in the style known as "far out and freaky" from the late 70s. I want that cutlery clock in the kitchen. Mustard and red yeah. LOL I'll try the recipe too. The stove and oven are antiques. I like the green too but its a bit overpowering. The stud height is so tall you could just about put in a second floor without raising the roof. The tool is a hedge cutter. One part of the blade is fixed and the other part moves forward and back with a short stroke. From the look of the outside it hasn't been used. Its a fixer upper. I don't know why but i actually like it. It didn't have a wash house, did it? just that odd room beside the kitchen. The black and white tiled room didn't have power or plumbing? it looked like an afterthought. I think we need a new roof. We cant patch that one.

Hey Andrewkiwi1 thanks for watching, good call regarding the bathroom decor haha, the tub was balancing up on bricks so not sure id be showering in there haha. it seems the kitchen may have been a different format originally which may have included a wash house, you can see the back door from the hall leads out to that area. A good fixer upper for people with loads of cash no doubt hey. :-)

@@urbexindigo5164 The kitchen was a mixture of styles. I don't know when formica came in but out here in Auckland, NZ the pattern in the formica would have been 50s or later with the chrome edging. The SS sink would have been 60s but the cupboards would have been 30s or 40s or 50s maybe. The floor tiles 70s or later. It's no virgin.

Hmm..it appears the previous owner 'tried' to keep this once grand house alive judging by the support beams. Actually, it wouldn't suprise me one bit if this place was inherited and the owner squeezed as much rent money as possible without an inch of repair judging by the horrendous neglect. This would be the type of landlord that would say, "well if you don't like it, leave" 😑 Could I assume the old peeling paint on the doors could be lead based paint? Great find neverless 👍😉 Stay safe

I love the way Nature wraps itself around and into these old houses, as if to comfort them in their last days. I feel this house is saying, " My life is over, it's time for me to go and make way for a new build that can know the joys that I have known." I don't really see sadness or darkness in this house's soul.. It has had a long and useful life that is now coming to an end...and the house is embracing nature and its future, knowing it has served it's purpose. I just recently found this channel and am really enjoying all your explores. :}

Once again you found a gem & thanks to you Paul all the homes & places you film will be remembered as said by many here. Parts of this house reminded me of the Winchester house with the archway. She had a place inside the house where she would garden without having to go outside. Mrs. Winchester had buildt on the floor, you lift a latch and put the plant on the floor inside where there was a draining system when she watered her plants the excess water was caught and went through a drain and out of the house. The wide floorboards of the house you showed us here Mrs. Winchester had also. The poor trees died for those floors ect...served all throughout the years and soon if not saved will just 've completely distoryed. Same with the tub, the glass windows ...time marches on. I always wonder if there aren't secrets compartments in old homes like that. They found a super hidden very strong big old safe hidden behind a fake wall in the Winchester house. Metal detecting anyone?😉

Back in its day, that kitchen was probably Very Up To Date, with the cook top and oven! The clock on the wall, made from eating utensils, forks, spoons, etc., was Very Cool!! I also liked how the countertop came out and divided the kitchen. The divide was definitely a 30's to 50's type style! The other side, with the windows, would have been where the breakfast table was. There were Really nice Ceiling Decor in some if the other rooms, plus the lavender and cream painted fireplace mantle! I am sure it was a Very Nice Home before someone came in and used the bright colors of paint in the rooms! Thanks for showing it to us!! Grandma B 🐝 💕

A neat exploration ! I liked that stove/oven... but it looks like a contraption that only a lot of experience could ever master. I had a similar broiler on my ancient gas range in my cottage in the UK. Everything that came near it burned (!) - I never did figure it out properly; and from the looks of its interior I'd guess other users were in that same boat. I think that poster of the sinking vessel is a reproduction of WW1 patriotic design- that's not the Titanic but the RMS Lusitania-- the British liner that was sunk in 1915 by a German U-boat off the coast of Ireland.... launching the United States into the war Thanks for the posting :) .

There is a home right by me that was built in 1833, The city was founded around 1832 so basically one of the first farm houses. About five months ago it went on the market and seemed to be stuck in the early 1900s as far as interior looked. It sold pretty cheap because it need a little work on the outside and some pipe work. Unfortunately they completely gutted the entire house only leaving the frame, and by the looks of it they might tear most of it down. In my area theres a weird building code where if you leave just one of the buildings original walls you dont have to follow current building codes and get away with alot more stuff.... To bad it wasnt deemed "historical" but thats what you get for living in a city going through a population boom... History doesnt mean a whole lot except for the small "historical town artifact building"

Probably was let to students who would put up with ancient appliances, a few cracks etc. Thats when it was probably last occupied. Or maybe squatters stayed for a bit after that. If they were made to vacate at short notice that would explain why clothing & other items were left behind. Sometimes bailiffs will only give people a very short time to gather essentials.

It is a shame that there isn't someone who could take the best pieces of the house and salvage them for later use. There is a company in Ohio (I think it's Ohio) called Salvage Dog's that goes into old churches, factory's, homes, and other buildings that are going to be torn down or remodeled and they save doors, windows, mantels, sinks, bathtubs and all sorts of items. They sell these items to the public. They saved all the beauty of these places to be reused. I hate to see all those windows, doors and fireplace mantels get destroyed. Wish someone could save them too.
@urbexindigo5164
@urbexindigo5164 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Loretta :-) Yes we have companies here that do salvage too but not all homes get the cool stuff saved, I guess it depends on how well the companies are organised and the owners timeframe before demolition. Some demo companies send in salvage crew first. :-) Cheers for watching :-)

So when it was 40 years old the major updates, then nothing but paint after that for the next 60 years. Quite a history for this lovely old lady. Just curious about the term "villa:" what about it determines the application of that term?
@urbexindigo5164
@urbexindigo5164 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Marcia :-) Yep it seems when the 30 rolled round the owners were inspired to give it a face lift and your right nothing at all since then other than maybe that red counter top on the kitchen benches. the term Villa in Early Australian homes were given to these larger Victorian homes as they were upper class and usually had all the wrought iron lacework and long hallways/return verandas. he term does not get used much in modern homes as far as I know here. It defines as upper class dwelling. Cheer for watching :-)
