People need to realize that the first competition after the Olympics is always shaky. It includes many new juniors and seniors trying to make their mark and build up experience as the olympics come closer. During the years leading up to 2012, there wasn't a lot of great gymnastics being done at all the big competitions, but 2012 ended up being a shining year for us gymnastics. The girls who just competed in the Olympics don't come back until about a couple years later. It's nothing new, this is literally what happens after every Olympics.

@lifeoftheparty217 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I agree. I know this is her first year as a senior, but she keeps having major errors at competitions, which makes me doubt her mental finesse as well. Hopefully she'll be able to perform better at nationals. I wish the best for her, and hope she can stay healthy to pursue whatever shes wants, whether that's 2020 and/or her future collegiate career with the Gators!
@nicolejarel59537 жыл бұрын
trinibwoy27 honestly if you look back, there have been really bad moments for the best gymnasts today. For example, not a lot of people thought Nastia was going to win AA because of the amount of injuries she endured coming up to the Olympics. I do think she will last, but that will be very sad if she doesn't continue.
@neversaygoodluck7 жыл бұрын
Honestly I think a big part of it is Maggies fault. For example she JUST started putting full routines together last week after injury, and in her interview prior to classics she had said she's not ready. She's already qualified Nationals, she should have just skipped this and used the time to recover a bit more.
@neshalashai48697 жыл бұрын
I agree 100%. I think she is trying to "push" Riley into the spotlight instead of letting it come naturally. Riley is no Laurie. Granted, Riley has beautiful lines and execution, but she's no Laurie. I think Maggie should take a page out of Chow's book and let Riley heal.
@liukin957 жыл бұрын
Riley does seem like a fragile gymnast and I am sure her coach Maggie Haney will burn her out in the end. I think a bit more experience is needed for her she does have the potential to be successful internationally, Simone was all over the place in her first senior year and then come worlds she was a rock and just flew from there. Lets just see what happens.
@pretzelsfan3 жыл бұрын
distinctly remember watching this meet four years ago and focusing on suni... she had an okay-average bar routine here, but you could just see the unbelievable raw talent and difficulty. then the years went by and she faded for a bit. so excited to see her in tokyo. whoever picked the thumbnail at USAG probably felt the same way. i bet they also had an inkling that she had great potential.

However, it wouldn't hurt seeing Simone, Laurie, Gabby and/or Aly come back for 2018 worlds. What sucks for us fans is it's a waiting game to see who comes back, who burns out or gets injured and who can peak at the biggest meets like worlds or Olympics! From this competition alone it is evident that Team USA has taken a few steps down the ladder. There is some exciting talent for sure, Morgan Hurd is by far my favourite and of course Ragan Smith is going to be the leader this year. Other than those two I don't see the same depth we saw 4 years ago when competition season started again. Having Simone, Laurie and Aly back will make a huge difference but without those three Team USA will need to keep an eye of what's going on behind their shoulder because in the last few months I have seen some AMAZING training videos from the Russian juniors! I'm sure Team USA will still be the top team this quad but they better watch out.

The Juniors were not actually competing against the Seniors they were competing WITH not against. A select number of Junior athletes who have shown a lot of "promise" were selected to compete WITH the Seniors to give them additional opportunity to compete on a podium. Very few of the Junior competitions are on a podium and the equipment (even floor exercise) feels different on the elevated surface. It is a benefit for these promising Junior athletes. After the completion of this competition the Juniors who competed with the Seniors will have their scores compared to the other Juniors and the odds are that one of the selected Juniors will end up winning the Junior event of the Classic.

Heather Wicker I'm way more impressed with the juniors this year. It doesn't seem like many of the seniors right not will be able to hold on until 2020 with the amazing juniors we have.
