I have recently shot 2 short documentaries with it and I thought I would share my thoughts and my experience as I originally did not intend to use the 6K Pro for this type of work.
I also discuss its pros and limitations and how it compares to the regular 6K for doco projects in my opinion.
Hopefully this is helpful to you guys.
Let me know if you have any questions :).
Cheers,

I really want to invest in getting the 6K Pro as the B cam to my URSA 12K. But the URSA 12K has been my documentary setup and I love it. Most of my doc work wasn’t super impromptu, last-minute, so I was able to plan and prepare for each day. If someone is doing a lot of unplanned, last-minute work I bet having a compact beast such as the 6K Pro is a God send. 👌 Love this video!

Thank you for this video. When using the Canon EF 16-35mm with image stabilization -- do you notice any impact on battery life from the image stabilization? About to embark on a 10 day backpacking trip with my 6K Pro and the Canon EF 16-35mm, and curious if this will be an issue at all. Thank you!

I have a BMPCC4K and a BMPCC 6K Pro. I use the 6k Pro primarily for documentary work and the 4K as a B cam for shooting the interviews. I came from shooting with Panasonic LUMIX GH5S (and other GHx models) so I had built a set of MFT lenses over time which is why I got the 4K and I have the usual sigma 18-35 for the 6K Pro. Im still getting used to it but I like it.

i'd Choose the 6k Pro, for rigged out I'd go with my Zcam if I need to add batteries and a monitor and a cage I think the ergonomics make less sense. Though I think i'd prefer the grip and the evf. Did you know tilta make an EVF relocator for rigs? may be useful for yourself to give the best of both worlds and I am pretty sure the small rig cage allows the grip to be added. I was wondering your thoughts on the Rode video mic 2, maybe you have a video on it. I actually think a video on sound would be very cool too, how you capture etc. Great video again Flo and thanks.

Great video, and I have both cameras and I agree with what you’re saying about documentary work where you need to be more run and gun or more discrete with a smaller package, especially if outdoors and that means the pro is the better idea. Secondly, if it’s going to be more of a static interview/documentary, then the 6K rigged up is certainly a great option. As always, I appreciate your insights here and sharing your work.

I just got the ursa G1. I knew about the downsides compared to the g2 but i got it for a steal of a price 1700 and it works perfectly fine. I would love to hear your experience using that camera as a documentary camera because my rig is insanely heavy. Would you recommend that lower gen camera today?
@OfTwoLands
@OfTwoLands Жыл бұрын
Congrats, pretty good deal! I loved my Ursa but as you said it was quite heavy and bulky and I ended up replacing it with a C200 since I was shooting several documentaries overseas as it was a much easier/lighter option. It is a great camera especially from a shooting experience point of view but I think the Gen 2, the 6K Pro and even the 12K are better value. As always whatever works with your type of work is the right camera :)

Thanks for the review. It's a great doc camera, wouldn't last 3 months on a real movie set due to its overuse of plastic and wacky XLR inputs but it's still great for docs. Iove this cheap option vs a 10k version. Now I can afford to.shoot with 2 for the price of one. My audience has no idea and frankly either do the professionals. If the image looks beautiful than it's a success.

I've wanted to pick up a c200 a few years ago but the price for the limitations it had was annoying. Seeing as the price has dropped, do you still see yourself using the c200 today for paid documentary work over your pocket 6k? I just sold my Canon r5 to possibly wait for what's out there. But c200b internal raw looks amazing for commercial work as well as having autofocus with an image equivalent to the bmpcc 6k. The image still is amazing today. Do you still hang on to your c200?
@OfTwoLands
@OfTwoLands Жыл бұрын
I saw the price drop recently and I think the C200 is still an amazing documentary camera even today! Very reliable and convenient especially for long shoots or longer form content or corporate job without intense grading. The RAW is awesome but so heavy and I actually never used it for that reason.

@@OfTwoLands This is good to know. In the past I had avoided V and Gold Mount batteries because of size and weight when filming doc style. I usually had gone the way of Canon for this reason filming all day with a simple battery. However, I prefer the colors of Blackmagic's 5th generation color science. The skin tones are what I imagine it should be when compared to Alexa and RED. What types of V mounts and chargers do you use? The ones we have are heavy. So we often don't fly with them. We use them when driving places though.

@OfTwoLands
@OfTwoLands Жыл бұрын
It depends on the type of documentaries you do. I owned the C100 Mk2 for a few years and the C200 for 2 years and I still decided to keep my BMPCC6K instead. I do a lot of portrait style short documentaries so it suits the Pocket but of course if you go out and shoot a longer form doco over several days or weeks then the Pocket won't be ideal. I also use my Eos R a lot as a B Cam. I did consider the C70 but too many limitations and the R5C is a great hybrid but not a viable options as a filmmaking only tool imo. Plus Prores and Raw internally is also very important for what I do.
@TJIzzy

@@OfTwoLands What are you feeling are too many limitations on a c70? It now has good lite raw, built in nd's that are better than the pockets and no ir pollution etc. Their digital is works good as well. Im just asking because ive had the pocket 6k, 1dx ii, komodo, r5, c70 etc and the c70 was way above everything else for running around and it had as much DR/IQ as the komodo imo.
