U.S.A. is also the only country in the world, that no matter where you live in the world, you must still file income tax, therefore, if they do not intend to return and live in the U.S.A., many are opting to get passport(s)/citizenship(s) in their adopted country(ies) and renouncing their American citizenship.

USA pretty much sucks in so many ways...and it's so much worse the last few years. Can't wait to exit 4-ever. Mexico always felt more like home to me than the US ever did... I'd cry when I had to return from vacation when I was a kid (and even later as an adult) because I felt like the lifestyle and culture, etc. fit my personality so much better in Baja and Mexico.

USA is all about greed. It is a bloated capitalistic rat hole that only caters to the rich not the common people. The working class in the US get screwed over all the time by corporate pigs who bride politicians and write the laws in their favor. USA is not a livable place for the common person at all.

Im leaving the US myself I left the woods to see the country I never really got to after 41 years of doing nothing other than working for my mother for free. I can't afford rent so I bought a RV to travel around the country. Well so far your treated like your not welcome anywhere unless you live in a home and pay rent. The cops treat you less than human like kicking you out of their town. When your not wealthy nobody wants you around. I just don't feel welcome in this country even when you tell people you got kicked out of the city you resided in for 7 months paying taxes your attacked by the people of the area you stayed in. Never mind my story of dieing twice and suffering 5 heart attacks and 5 strokes because nobody cares what you went through. Or what your doing because of it, if your not living in a home your not considered a permanent resident of the area. Insurance companys are crooked screwed me out of 600$ worth tires yet our government forces you to have insurance or your not allowed to drive. Basically everything IS to expensive to live grocery's are WAY to expensive and white man aren't liked. I just don't feel welcomed anymore in my home country

I really enjoyed hearing your story. I left the USA a couple months ago, maybe for good. I also have 100 reasons why I left. I worked very hard all my career and lived modestly, choosing to save money. I'm not rich, but as long as I stick to my budget I should never have to worry about money. I turned 62 in December and retired, and my wife and I spent the next couple months selling everything. I love the feeling of freedom I have now! We're in a small Costa Rica beach town where we'll stay 6 months, and then we'll evaluate whether to remain or move on. The culture in the US changed as all cultures do, but it has became quite sick in my opinion. The politics, legal and illegal drug use, and close mindedness are all symptoms. It really breaks my heart because there are still many things about the country that I love. I visited 46 states and planned to visit all 50, but now that doesn't seem so important.

I've been travelling abroad since 2009. I left USA after a necessary visit a few months ago. I knew I'd leave again before I even bought my plane ticket home...I'm not a pictures guy, I just like meeting new people. I have regimens of exercise, learning different subjects, eating good food and walking around malls and bazaars. I stay awhile then I leave... I'm slowing down now....not physically but I'm tired of packing and unpacking, airports and being tested by "new" receptionists and shopkeepers who figure out very quickly I'm well- travelled. I was a few places in India during 2009 when I started my journey. Never really noticed much of an economic crash before I left USA, but I had blinders on with other things occupying my mind. I disliked even some of my favorite cities when last in USA...so...I figured... Why go back. Good show👍

“Developed” counties for example USA, Canada and Australia (where I live) are good places to build your wealth through well paid work and investments maybe say until you’re 40 but long term I find them very very depressing, for the most part they have lost their purpose (cost of living & housing is beyond extreme) and don’t have much to offer, the people are also mean and miserable. When I travelled to Asia I was able to live a much more comfortable life in a place with richer culture and happier people. My aim is to move permanently out in the coming years once I build enough portfolio to be able to do travel and settle overseas never to return to Australia

I stay in the USA because my daughter is here and that's OK. But if I were childless, I wouldn't choose to live here. When I was in high school my parents moved to Spain and then Portugal then London (in the 1970's). It was fascinating and I went to university in Ireland. It was all an incredible experience that changed me as a person. You seem very happy. Thanks for your great videos.

I started counting the days until retirement at 10 years...down to 3 years and 2 months. We thought we’d go to SE Asia but it looks like some of our furbabies will still be alive so we are heading to Mexico. We are SOOOO excited...still counting the days until we make that long drive. We speak Spanish and have lived abroad before. Our short list is down to 6 cool weather cities and we plan to visit each for a few months...slow travel !

Sounds like you reached a similar point of view as myself. As I aged, my surroundings...my environment, became more important than merely the accumulation of additional wealth. To that end came moves from Los Angeles to the central coast, then to the Bay area, and finally the northern California coast. One can still find rural areas in the USA that are more unspoiled than urban areas...but you're right, it's not the norm. We've traveled to Europe on several occasions, and hope to again in the future (but always...slowly). Safe travels ✌😎

I used to own a cafe here in USA, it is impossible to compete against corporate food providers, who are given much, much lower prices by fresh food suppliers because they buy in massive quantities and have more storage options than the little Mom and Pop restaurants. There was no profit at the end of the month, after we finished paying the credit card processors. The overhead was a killer! I refuse to patronize corporate restaurants ever again. Most of the food they serve is junk and they’ve muscled all the little guys out of business, so I believe that it’s their turn to suffer.

I'm retired now with no kids and planning on moving to Mexico to use as a home base for a slow-traveler lifestyle just as you have done. I picked Mexico because of its proximity to the US in case of medical or family emergencies, and its lower cost of living than the US. With the money saved, I can then travel frequently to places which I've often wondered about. If only I knew about this fascinating, adventurous, lifestyle 20 years ago, I would've started it then. Who knows, maybe our paths will meet someday in some part of the world. Thank you, Dan, for your wonderful and inspiring videos and keep up the good work.

Dan ... this is one of your best videos. There is a lot of honesty and truth to what you say. However not everyone is in your position. It is very difficult to leave children behind, even grown children. Also, one major drawback from constantly traveling is that you have no sense of community. You are always saying goodbye to friends you make along the way. There are tradeoffs in everything in life.

Even though I have a good career that makes decent money I find myself working 60+ hours a week just to live paycheck to paycheck. From paying $2000 a month for a mediocre apartment, to $5 a gallon for gas, food costs, health insurance etc. I’m so exhausted physically and mentally of the USA. I moved out of the USA 28 years ago after witnessing the End of Opportunity arrive in my country and then in my industry. I was a whitewater river outfitter (business owner and employer) and an avid ski bum. I never had what most would call a real job. In the late 1980's the government officials in charge of the different national forests and BLM controlled land I operated on started to impose senseless restrictions on our ability to earn a living. Each one became more of a dictator imposing on us things that they dreamed up not based on experience on our rivers or to benefit our ecology. The budgets to build trails and put in more out houses was going into hiring more unneeded employees who acted like dictators in training. Lucky me had an opportunity to head to India to operate India's first white water jet boat on the upper Ganges above Rishikesh. What I found was an incredible world that welcomed me so I stayed. My memories of my years in the USA are very good and I want to keep it that way.

Dan, as you know I retired early with not a bunch of money in the bank but what I felt would be sufficient. Left the USA and after living in Mexico now for 7 months I found that I really like being retired. Most of the time I have no idea what day it is. I say every day is Saturday. I have had some great experiences, romances and new friendships. I became a Master level scuba diver and have been at most of the best dive sites off the Riviera Maya. I have found that I walk slower, pause and enjoy deeply as I go. I find life to be amusing when you slow down and breath. A return to southeast asia is next. Soon. I still love the USA and only left because I could and I'm adventurous. Love experiencing different cultures and find friendly people are everywhere. More to come, life is good and it doesn't require lot of money
