Those rocker arms are notorious to fail at 30K miles or so on these Porsche designed V6s. Water pumps are also pushing coolant out into the vacuum port also, causing overheat and low boost concerns if it gets past the coolant solenoid and into the N75 solenoid and vacuum reservoir. Good times, lol

Working on a friends B6 A4 with the 2.5 V6 TDI which had suffered from the cam lobes shifting around breaking a couple of rockers we realised that it almost has more parts in one cylinder head than the whole of my inline 5 cylinder engine..... How the hell can a vehicle manufacturer like Audi be allowed to get away with developing an engine that has so many inherent faults. It’s basically designed to fail
@sm000772 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. IMHO the main problem is the air intercooler, which is leaky from water side. The coolant is in the engine through piston rings, it's in the oil so lubrication was bad and made these problems with the rock arms and fallen rock arm destroyed camshaft. Why the intercooler is leaky? Because some put there bad tuning box, which overpressured the air intercooler, that's it. I don't thing it's bad engine design, it's bad tuning by bad tuning box. Why ABT tuning has "only" 690N.m and no more, ha ?

@TheAllEngineering2 жыл бұрын
@@sm00077 Poor timing chain life is a common theme in these engines even when following the prescribed maintenance program. The fact that you have to increase the level of maintenance in order to combat a fundamental design floor is not acceptable. The whole short life of the timing chain stems from poor design. Poor combustion leading to contamination of the oil is a contributor to the short life of the timing chain, which comes about because of poor design. The diesel engines do not suffer from this issue so I would not expect you to have issues with your tdi. 150000 km life is a joke.

Iv had a similar issue on common rail VW Diesel engine. You may find when camshaft removed from carrier there is oil starvation on cam carrier and as it’s line bored may need new ones which is expensive. This usually happens through to much heat!

It would be really interesting to see what the differences between the two engines from s5 and rs5 actually are apart from single to dual turbo and water intercooler, there's plenty videos comparing the actual cars but I couldn't find any that just highlight the difference between the engines and pretty sure I can't be the only one that's interested to see if there's any other major differences between those two engines.

Great video! I’m guessing this was an early b9. Manufacture date before 6/19. Audi identified this issue and updated the rocker arms.

Hello WAG Gods, A question for you. I have Audi A6 C6 2009 3.0 TDI 176 KW powerplant. Which maker you prefer to buy: BGA autoparts or Fai autoparts? For whole chain set? FEBI or SWAG dont offer few things like gears for replace old ones.

Reason I sold my s6 with the v8. No way you could reach the intake manifold as they were next to frame rail. And you WILL get a code on a cold start misfire from buildup. Eventually. The only engine in North America that Audi does right it’s the ttrs with both port and direct. Odd Enough that I believe the European market 2.0 does come with both but not North America’s

Hi guys, great videos, thank you. I would like to ask you a question please... 2009 VW Tiguan 2.0T FWD, AT 6sp transmission is not interchangeable with 2010 Audi A3 2.0T FWD 6sp AT? All search creteria shows me that they are not, would you know why? Same engine, both fwd, basically same era VAG... Thank you in advance. Roman.

Really anything with 2.9t or supercharged sucks, even the old 3.0 na engine is garbage. You’re right about the 2.7t in the b5. I currently daily drive a b5 1.8t . Very dependable especially when you can fix your own car.

I'm taking my 2018 3.0 S4 apart because of metal in the oil. After inspection everything looks fine except the cam sprocket shows wear on the teeth. Do you see any issues with the aluminum cam sprockets on this car?
@derpderpderpityderp8848 Жыл бұрын
so how do you PREVENT this happening? What can you check and watch for? You can't disassemble the engine every service to check the rockers. It seems like the owner was in spec aside from the ECU tune which would have caused more heat & wear?

How many kilometers has the car run and how do the radiator and rocker arms become noticeable? If you noticed a loss of coolant, is it already too late??? In my TPI it says this Audi with BJ. The new thick wheels were installed in 2019, so why the damage? MfG

both 2.9 and 3.0 ea839 have the rocker arm quality issue. The rocker arm seems to be revisef upgraded from June2018. If you car was produced before that date, you should probably take a look at that when you hear the engine tick noise.
@joshuatorres47622 жыл бұрын
Yes exactly I have about 45k on mine and I’m starting to hear noises but can’t really differentiate if it’s the rocker arms or if it’s the fuel pump solenoid thing that people talk about
@michaelcollins87742 жыл бұрын
Looking at the parts list for the 3.0 there were 2 revisions to the rocker arms the first was 09/17 with the second revision 08/18, only heard of a few issues on the forums so hoping it’s not a widespread issue!

i hear the rattle type noise kind of sounds like a garden sprinkler during acceleration. I cant reproduce the sound if the car is standing still and just rev it. nor is the sound present while cruising. i just hear it when accelerating and near a wall or parked cars usually make the sound more audible.. what you think would be the problem
