@dboatrig All German car manufacturers signed an agreement, that they build stocks up to 12 years, if I recall that correctly. Means, that you can roughly get parts till 20 years after the car was build. And that's from Audi, the non OEM producers will provide them even longer.

I've had my audi A5 b8,5 3.0 tdi 245 quattro from brand new, and now after 270.000km I started looking at replacing the chain (preventatively) and audi quoted me 10.000 euros, where Darkside quoted me half that. Prolly about time to sell it to some young lad and buy a 2018-2019 S7 (the last years where they put in 4.0 tfsi, which not only sounds amazing, but also easily goes to 550-570bhp 800-830nm within stage 1, which is the safezone limit for the s-tronic of 1000nm)

Really interesting issue with this engine. Not an old car or a high mileage either. I look forward to you discovering the cause. BTW the wiring harness and coil packs on these 2.9s is a right mess. I had a bad spark plug on my V8 S5 and thought it was a bit of a job to work the packs and plugs out, but this engine is way worse! Thank god for VCDS as it saved me a crap ton of work figuring out which cylinder was affected.

@@ACERASPIRE1 Experience has taught me otherwise. ECU replaced when it was actually a contaminated MAF. Gas tank taken out and fuel pump replaced for a vacuum leak. Solenoid replaced for a fuel tank pressure leak when it's actually a gas cap. These shops got to meet the bottom line. That's the whole reason most ASE certified literature will warn techs not to hand the vehicles back to customers without the monitors run as it's basically dishonest and gives the customer the impression that the vehicles are fixed when they aren't; It's either greed, incompetence or just not reading their shop guides.

I'm wondering if the dealer found it jumped timing and then immediately wrote "new engine" because they don't deal with internal repairs unless certain conditions apply (ie: oil consumption fixes, no piston to valve contact, etc.). I would check the physical timing of the engine, especially ince the cam sensors were pulled. It's probably electronic or electrical, but this way one can rule out a timing jump. We also need to see all the error codes.

I think that the dealership drain the oil, and seeing the bearings from that lifter rocker. And the metal from those rollers. You did not see them because if they change the oil. So I wonder if any of the material from those roller rocker or in bearings are in anything that is destined to destroy the engine later.

My Audi A5 (B8, 2011) had a Banner battery from the factory. I think the Banner battery is a valid alternative for this car if it has the proper specs and has been coded properly. Banner also has an official BEM manufactory code from VAG.

Typical dealer diagnostics, 'needs the most expensive repair we can think of'. Even a trainee could see that didn't need a new engine just by looking at the oil and doing a compression test, also the fact it wasn't even trying to fire pointed to sensors or the ECU. Good methodical diagnostics here finding actual problem quickly and more importantly for the owner cheaply.

You said you are not a fan of a tune in the ECU. Could you explain why you feel this way?
@TyinAlaska
@TyinAlaska 2 жыл бұрын
I think the tune caused timing and fuel ratio issues which fowled and shorted various electrical parts.

Why swap out sensors before looking at the waveforms from each of them? It's quicker/cheaper to diagnose than just to replace parts unnecessarily.

@@VAGTechnic it should be possible to scope all signals and diagnose within the hour, no parts required. You even have two banks to work with, simplifying the diagnosis. Look forward to the next video

@@sdgelectronics if the engine is not running I can’t check it , if the engine was running the sensor was unplugged so can’t check it , but it was reading correctly on the end but incorrect position 😂 and the timing was out physically 😏 so very interesting fault
@sdgelectronics
@sdgelectronics 2 жыл бұрын
@@VAGTechnic No need for engine running, so long as the ignition is on they have the 12 or 5V reference so the output would be valid. If the sensors are dynamic, you can check either while cranking or by turning over by hand. This would show timing correlation.

i put my car on ramp for 2 months to work on exhaust pipes, car was ok with no issue, after 2 months, on first drive it fall into limp mode in the middle of driving, tried to reset 1 million fail codes but nothing, then i disconnected battery cable and everything were good, no codes car drives, and that happened few times in other drives, i tried to disconnect all electrical plugs and clean with contact spray and problem was solved, no more limp mode, so car must not stay on place it must be used

After the battery, why wouldn't you check the fuel delivery system first? Plugged fuel filter, bad fuel pump... etc. etc. etc.

Funny thing that rocker arm wouldn’t prevent the non start it’s only the fact it damaged the camshaft pickup wheel that caused it not to start otherwise should of just had a misfire. Cause and effect what a nightmare

I bet it's an exhaust cam rocker that has packed up and fallen off the lobe/valve ...kj, I watched the next video before this one. If only life worked this way where someone can tell you exactly where the fault is. btw, would the coolant 'injection' into the engine have anything to do with the failed rocker arm? causing the engine to hydraulic excessively? Great content btw!
