I started out with a fifeteen pound sledgehammer. It was awesome, but the mace has just a few advantages that feel much better. If you just want to start out, use a sledgehammer.

I cannot use the mace for anything other than mace training. The sledge at least gives me the option of using it for something other than training. Sledge available everywhere. Mace might require a shipping costs too. Cost wise, i can buy a 4.5kg sledge for between $58 and over $200 depending on brand and material. 4kg Mace is $49 cheapest I can find but next cheapest is $68 on special but add shipping. Not all maces have a large grip - as shown by the flowing dutchman. Use what is available to you at a price you are willing to pay, and get what you are willing to use.

To everyone who practices with a macebell only unilaterally (perhaps because they mostly practice bilaterally with other instruments), I recommend including bilateral exercises with a heavy macebell... For these three reasons: 1. Heavier macebell = more emphasis on the stabilizing muscles of the torso. When I go one-handed with a 6kg macebell, it's a completely different feeling for the torso and hips than when I go two-handed with a 12kg macebell... 2. The path of movement of the arms and shoulders is DIFFERENT in the case of one-handed and two-handed "swinging"/ with macebell... 3. Swinging a macebell with one hand has its irreplaceable place in training with a macebell, BUT... when swinging a macebell with two hands, for example, you engage the muscles of the chest DIFFERENTLY. When swinging with a macebell with two hands, you will feel more work not only in the core, but also in the chest (it "pumps up" more). And that's because when swinging a macebell with two hands, you squeeze your hands together and the chest reacts to it MORE than in the case of one-handed spinning... A year ago, I thought that it was enough to practice with the macebell one-handed, and that I would not benefit from two-handed (with more weight, of course) spinning... I WAS WRONG. Now I do half of the "spinning" with the macebell with two hands and half with one hand...

Being from a low income family, I have to be very aware of costs. I used birthday money to buy my mace and I adore it. My next step down is two 4lb cross peen hammers that I had bought years ago. I use one in each hand like heavy clubs. Yes my weights are low because I’m a beginner and don’t have much money. I have a hickory baseball bat I will likely carve to hold Olympic weight plates and load it only as high as 20 or 30lbs. My 10lb mace is lovely and I’m happy with it but I know I’ll need to move up eventually. Ideally I’d get two 10lb steel clubs and a 20lb mace but really can’t afford it. Two small concrete gada are one option I will likely take, but the baseball bat will also work well as either club or short mace depending on where I grip it. I’ve realized that I could also slip Olympic plates over the handle of my 10lb mace and use either a steel shaft collar with set screws or a leather wrap and Olympic barbell collar to hold things in place.

I swear by my mace and clubs, they've been an invaluable training aid for me ever since I stumbled onto them

Is there a big cost difference? 🤔 Can't one start with a sledgehammer if it's significantly cheaper? What ways could you use to thinken the handle? Ducktape? Thanks for explaining the differences and the benefits. 💪

Well, Here in France it's pretty expensive. You can get a 5kg steel mace for around 60-80 dollars. Wood indian club are very expensive, getting a pair is more like 250-300 euros. Steel club are much less expensive. I like them but it's true they are more for pure strength work. And they don't have this cool look and wood feeling.

You can do with Sledgehammer all the exercises that you with Mace but you can't hit the tires with Mace like you hit them with Sledgehammer..... it's a fact.....

What i don’t understand is, surely to get the most out of mace training, shouldn’t i use over light enough that i can control the whole movement? If not, most of the movement is just a swing/monentum and my muscles aren’t working as much
@Vahvafitness3 ай бұрын
The dynamic and ballistic movements will still develop a lot of the body parts because your wrist, forearm and arm muscles need to constantly stabilize during the swings - and your shoulder and back muscles also generate a lot of force. Give it a shot and you will see

A good sledgehammer with a wood handle is best and you can't put chain to add weight

@@olitp2364 some people have made loadable maces with different pipes, that load Olympic plates. I may make one. Right now I have a 10lb hammer, a 6kg mace, 2 8kg mudgars and a wooden loadable mace

How about lift weights and do actual exercises rather than silly shit like this, Carbs FTW!! 💪💪💪
@pjericson686 ай бұрын
Weapons training is actually more functional strength and requires full body mobility instead of linear planes of motion as with most weightlifting.
@PeterQuentercrimsonbamboo5 ай бұрын
Sounds like a pretty narrow universe you advocate for - what other sports and exercise and training do you consider silly shit ?
@SkillaStaz4 ай бұрын
You can do both. I lift, am focused on just getting strong AF, but I want some conditioning 1-2x a week. I'm looking for sledge/maces to add a little conditioning/strength work.
