What are your thoughts on Valtteri Bottas' at-home Ironman? 👀

He had to burn some calories after his trip to belgium.

He’s proper hard as nails! I’m here for it. Absolute legend ✊

100% legit. Valtteri has long been a participant in endurance sports and routinely partakes in cycling events, such as the most recent gravel worlds and unbound in previous years. I would not be surprised if he ends up qualifying for Kona as an age grouper after he leaves F1.

Valtteri's Ironman was legit, you can find it on his strava. He also raced the Gravel Worlds recently, so he's definitely not a poser.

Welcome back Heather. Valtteri is a normal human being and its normal to find the full distance scary. If you have all that equipment at home why wouldn't you try to use them to see if it's possible before signing up for one. Open water swimming and some road bike courses aren't for beginners even if you have the fitness to do them.
@Lindemann0815Ай бұрын
Valtteri just raced the Gravel Worlds... I am sure he can manage an Ironman bike course :D

Aloha GTN, I'm from Kona and have volunteered in the past and watched Lange break the course record this year. You're right that some people complain about the race, but there are still tons of locals that love it.
@TriathlonTomi-r5zАй бұрын
The Ironman CEO says the future of Kona is dependant on what’s in the best interest of the athletes in the community of triathlon, but it’s actually about what’s in the best interest for the community on Kona. Kona is literally the heart of triathlon, so there is no doubt that it has to stay there. So with all the money that is now involved in the sport, Ironman simply has to do more for the community in Kona for them to want to have it there. It’s the only solution. And this is coming from someone that actually loves the race in Nice.
@marcuswills6569Ай бұрын
Ironman have always done what's best for their bottom line 🤑, literally the only reason they went to two separate days for men/women was to double up on the age groupers entry fees.
@inntw4889Ай бұрын
Hmmm, you could be right. I just hope that kind of short sighted thinking doesn’t end up hurting the sport in the long run, because Kona has magic that can’t be replicated anywhere else.
@ardnaxАй бұрын
Could be an idea to have the mens and womens on the same day every other year, maybe that's better for the community, to have a year off.

There were two World Cups this weekend. The one in Brasilia was actually the last one of the year, not Miyazaki. I only mention it because one of my favorites, Rosa María Tapía, won that race and Tamara Gorman was on the podium for the first time since 2019.

Welcome back Heather! Why not move Kona a little earlier for more daylight that would allow the women to have a little more time ahead of the elite age group men? September vs October. Kona needs to go back to one day and limit the numbers. Only the best quality-as it should be
@marcuswills6569Ай бұрын
Limiting numbers means less entry fees and as Ironman are all about the 🤑, can't see that changing anytime soon.

Because it is easier physically to swim 3.8k in a 15-20m pool where you basically swim about 70-75% and just glide the rest of the way... also fuelling, plus no elements, super controlled.

Could Ironman hold the pro world championships in Kona and sell 2,000 or so slots for a one day race? Then they could rotate the age group World championships around the world.

i reckon that the world champs ironman is not as good when you have men & women ONLY days as 1 of the cool things about triathlons are men & women on the same course for the same race; would be nice if they alternate woman starting before men with men starting before women
