You are such a neat person. Not only do you teach with clarity, but you are kind and humble with your followers. You are a great example as how to be a "good human!" Regarding vanguard etf's, how do they work with Ameritrade? Does Vanguard charge Ameritrade extra for offering them?
@humphrey4 жыл бұрын
Thank you ShepherdsGma, I do know that TD Ameritrade sells Vanguard funds. In researching it, it doesn't look like they charge extra for offering them. You can always just buy the ETF version as well which is available at every brokerage

Hey Humphrey! Awesome Video as always! Quick question: Which do you prefer? Investing into index funds / etfs consistently every month Or saving and then investing larger amounts into the fund / etf when they dip and their price is cheaper?

I have been absent but I am playing catch up with your two most recent videos! 1.) thank you for the time stamps! It makes it easier to follow the video just in case I missed something and I can easier backtrack back to that topic. 2.) thank you for sharing about vanguard because I have been torn between them and fidelity and after watching this video, it’s clear I’m putting my money in Vanguard! 3.) I think you would be awesome in teaching a class/webinar about finances! Will elaborate on that via dm but I would love to have you speak at a Military Science class to prospective officers who have received scholarship (up ~40K for 4 years + $420 monthly up to 10 months) and how they could invest their money! TLDR: your videos are great and I hope to message you soon about a collaboration effort!

What about the taxes on the profit from the investment ? Does it get taxed every year or 40 years from now when you decide to retire and pull it out ?

Gains are taxed when they're realized (sold)! Unless its held in a Roth IRA or TFSA.

@JC-sh9cg4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. Super insightful! QUESTION! When you open a Roth IRA account with Vanguard, do they automatically invest your money in their index fund?
@heatherleslie66434 жыл бұрын
From my experience, No they do not! Money that you put in your Roth is actually deposited into your money market that you then designate which funds you want to buy with it.
@humphrey4 жыл бұрын
No they do not. Heather is correct.
@chele8503 жыл бұрын
Wow that’s a bummer... 🧐 get with the times; I get the interface to discourage day trading, but automatic deposits align with the passive strategy.

Hey love the videos keep it up! I got a question for you it’s not really relevant to this video but I need a second opinion from someone with experience. During quarantine I’ve been designing shirts, hoodies and long sleeves. Amazon has this ‘merch’ thing where they will make and ship your product for you. Do you think it’d be better to buy a printer or go with amazon and see how well It goes first?
@humphrey4 жыл бұрын
I think you should start with printing it yourself and shipping it yourself. It'll be more work but you'll learn alot more about the business, the margins of the business, and in the long term will probably be more successful in doing so

Entertaining and informative! Thanks Humphrey. I was wondering if I already started my Roth IRA at Charles Schwab, how easy is it to switch over to Vanguard? Or would I want to start a new one there? Thanks!
@humphrey4 жыл бұрын
It's not that hard, I think you can contact Charles Schwab on how to do that - but if you already have your Roth IRA at Schwab you can probably just keep it there and buy Vanguard ETFs
@chele8503 жыл бұрын
@@humphrey yeah I’m curious to see how vanguard’s etf patent pans out post-2023. It accounts for more and more of index funds. It’s interesting but wondering if worth it to opt for etfs... I found a post via boglehead from 10 years ago... it was interesting and made me think twice
@akin2420023 жыл бұрын
Why leave Schwab? The returns are nearly the same for their S&P 500 fund and Total USA stock fund.

Is it possible for a bubble to form? I'm worried that so many people my age may be just starting to get into this stuff and, just like the real estate market, there's going to be so many people investing thinking it's essentially free money, that it actually ends up causing problems, creating a bubble, and popping.

Index funds aren't worth your time.... 401ks do index funds but with compound interest, and instead, I would just do a roth 401k! Basically, index funds not through a retirement fund will make you less money, but you can pull it out whenever you want, but instead, I would just to single stocks like I invested in nVidia and 2 days boom up 25%. If you're gonna do index funds, just do retirement. You will make more money in the long run!

My only question here is where does your profit come from? I understand once you purchase index funds/ETFs but how do you get a return? Do you sell? Basically I don't understand how the rest will take care of itself once I invest
@humphrey4 жыл бұрын
The profit comes from 1) appreciation of the fund yes, and 2) the compound interest on your returns of the appreciation of your funds.
