Fantastic description! Really liking the chop strike applications into grappling. This really got my imagination going in terms of conjuring up effective applications for these. I see so many great openers for a sequence here. A quick backfist to the face, eye poke, or a well timed oblique kick would surely distract the enemy long for something stronger, even if it’s just a distance building side kick. I’d love to set up some of the more confusing rotation based attacks like a hurricane or turning back kick. Love the infinite possibilities!

Brilliant. It's incredibly invigorating to hear someone who is thoughtful and deliberate about their use of martial arts. When we needed to break bricks for 2nd dan black belt tests (I'm 2nd dan WTF black belt), we used palm hand strikes. Aligning palm - wrist- arm - shoulder + putting your twist & body weight (momentum) into a strike it's just incredibly powerful. I don't know I would want to try breaking multiple bricks with my knuckles in that same way. (though the bone can create immediate damage that the palm can't) Looking forward to more videos! (e.g. would love to see this level of thoughtful analysis on stances - something that I spent a lot of time on just for balance and timing)

Actually key thing to use all parts of hands as far as I studied Karate is to Use Hard part to Soft Target and Soft Part to Hard Target like Saigen to Nose or Chick and Open Palm To Chin or Shin or Knee and Shuto fist or lower base of fist to Skull. So you may hurt opponent without hurting your self.

It's important for the finger jab to align the fingers the way you do. Some schools only practice this move in the air and have the fingers straight. It's obvious though if you ever try to hit anything with it that the fingers need to be pre-bent in the way they can bend without injury, or they might bend backwards.
@VanRoonMartialArts

For sure - I've dislocated a straight finger that way!

Hello, that's a great video thank you! But how about many other types of hand tool? FingerKnucklefist strike(inji joomock chirugi), middle knuckle fist (joongji joomock chirugi) wrist chop (sondung terigi) , bearhand(gomson), one finger thrusts and so on? It's very interesting in traditional martial arts

Nice tutorial. Just one questio,Any reason you left out the long fist? Also a suggestion, from a self defense point of view, it would be interesting a hand techniques tutorial from a one knee on the floor position against a standing opponent and another focused on attacking the body side and back vital points.

No reason! Just didn't want the video to be too long! I also find the long fist quite awkward but that may just be because I haven't drilled it a lot. Thanks for your feedback too :D

Like the energy. Like your way of teaching! Keep up the work. What do you think of the concept of "attacking the weapons first aka. destroyin the openents hands etc?" (for SD purposes oc)?
@VanRoonMartialArts
@VanRoonMartialArts 5 жыл бұрын
Interesting concept, and one that I've found employed in arts like Kali / FMA too. I think the precision required to use a knifehand to effectively damage someone's wrist is unrealistic at pace but I've definitely punched an elbow or two in my time in sparring and hurt my hand. This is where kali / FMA have the right idea I think!

Shift your weight from the rear side of your body towards the lead (back fist) side of your body and use a tight rotation of the pelvis. Tense your abdomen so this rotation of your pelvis is translated into your shoulders and then into the arm. Peace CvR

@@VanRoonMartialArts Hi my friend, why did you go to taekwondo, and what do you like more about them?

@VanRoonMartialArts 5 жыл бұрын
I was first attracted to Taekwon-Do by the dynamic jumping and spinning kicks but I love all sorts of Martial Arts. I'm currently engaged in more intensive study of MMA, wrestling and BJJ. In the past I've spent time learning Capoeira, Wushu, Aikido, Muay Thai, Kali etc. I enjoy exploring the universal principles that unite all arts and learning from experts in other fields. My own speciality is mid to long-range striking from my background in TKD, Karate and Kickboxing
