Was pleased to see Carcass listed - personally would put them higher though, I feel their influence on future acts is highly understated. Kyuss - love them, never considered them metal. Stoner Rock, absolutely. Would rank In Flames over ATG. I would also include Fear Factory as a band that influenced many other bands to come.

Venom should have been here for influence, also Bathory. I love Anthrax. Some metalheads hated them because they didn't stand there posing with their arms folded, hair hanging in front of their faces, trying to act tough. They were a band who had fun. Then you get metalheads who loved them because they were fun and didn't take themselves serious. For All Kings and Worship Music were better then any of the modern releases from the rest of the big 4. But I still love Slayer's and Metallica's 80s output more. I have every Megadeth album, but I could take them or leave them.

To be honest, these lists are always highly subjective. So I totally agree with some choices, and not at all with others. Some of the main bands I miss here are Celtic Frost, Voivod, Suicidal Tendencies, Venom, Overkill, Enslaved, Darkthrone, Bathory, Prong, Faith No More, Kreator, Sodom, Destruction, Marduk, Suffocation ... And Mayhem? Well, Mayhem should definitely be in there as well.

It is AI created. I am ok with leaving these out. Anthrax, just like all the other big 4 bands, are hit and miss, but they are influencal in the Metal world. Many thrash bands talk about Anthrax being a major player and being different from other thrash bands. Metallica was the biggest, Slayer was the most evil, Megadeth was the most grungy, and Anthrax was the goofy ones. Anthrax were more like skater thrash. Joey had a very unique voice for thrash, but it kind of worked and kind of didn't. John Bush might have been a better singer, but the music he made with Anthrax is not great.

Venom were a massive influence and a good band, but didn't make that many outstanding albums. The first three are all you need. Many that came after them made similar music, and improved it. Also, Celtic Frost over Venom any time.

Forbes should only publish about financial. not music. the taste of everybody is different. for me the best metal band of all time is first Lovebites. second Metallica, 3rd Iron Maiden... and after it varies. maybe 4th would be Judas Priest, or megadeth or dream theater ^^ well i'm only sure of my top 3 in fact. I didn't expect anything good from big media outlet,. But this initial list is also laughable. It's so painfully basisc... Bands here are either most obviously popular, entry level stuff (I am not saying that Priest, Maiden, Black Sabbath or Motörhead aren't great, but there are so many greater pick in 70's and 80's underground, that this is sad), overrated (Metallica have stopped playing good music after black album and Mayhem is the weakest second wave pioneers, Darkthrone, Burzum, Immortal or virtually any classic greek band from 90's are far superior) or utter shit (Slipknot/Korn are so bad, that i preffer literally any glam slop over them). And it's not insane, to ignore metal/detah-core. It's really only sane choice, since these two are inherently bad and aren't even metal.

staying up on school nights to hear the midnight to 1 am radio show that played metal, and tape the whole thing in hopes at least one song you've never heard is played that night. just HOPE that something good is played. you dont get to choose. you see we had to spend EFFORT and TIME and actually WANT TO HEAR IT enough to make these sort of sacrifices to our sleep and health. we'd spend a full day just travelling to random stores in hopes of finding a release. zoomers wouldn't even think to do that on a regular basis, we didn't have access to store inventories through a brick and mortar stores' website. zoomer can just look up a stores inventory and know what they have in stock, so their time isn't potentially wasted on the HOPES of finding a record. there are so many aspects to their lives that they cannot comprehend actual devotion to the music. 99% of zoomers and generation a-hole are not fans. they are simply posers.
