It was exciting and a blast to be part of it. Enjoyed it very much. The Herbie Hancock song we couldn't decipher was Sly (from the Head Hunters album). The J&K Stonebone record is on the want list :) Thanks again for the invitation Mark and John! Cheers. /Paul

Hi Chaps. Another excellent session. It’s a good job that I don’t live in Holland as I’d be stalking Paul to find out where he finds all those lovely og African records! The Blo album was reissued by PMG a few years ago. It’s a nice pressing but I’d very much like Paul’s original 😀 Thanks for the heads up on the Grodeck Whipperjenny. Just ordered a copy. I’ll be trying to get a copy of Stonebone too. Cheers!

The Stonebone is great too - playing and grooves immaculate - John just shared this review with me last night www.ctproduced.com/stonebone-finally/

Another absolutely epic show guys. Paul was a perfect guest. I never miss his videos. You all share some of the same musical interests which made it even more enjoyable. I gave you guys a shout-out in my last video. Excuse me. It was a well deserved shout-out. Thank you Mark. Thank you John. So happy that you are both keeping the classic spirit of the VC alive and well~ Rob/Boston

Lots of action! This was a juicy juicy installment with Paul. I’m shocked he didn’t share the Misha Panfilov release in his background. I love when John’s Dead Head alter ego makes an appearance. While I love Europe ‘72 there are so many live shows on vinyl now, it’s hard to make that one the top one but it is brilliant. Cheers boys!

Well spotted, Stavros. I don't know how many people did recognize that cover. One cool record. For sure it will feature in a future video. /Paul

Enjoy the collaborations. That CTI JJ Johnson album intrigues me but I missed out on it this past weekend but the search is on. I had forgotten about Paul Kossoff. Saw one of the last Free shows which was In January 1973. An all island Records bill of John Martyn, Free and Traffic at Winterland in San Francisco. Shuggie is fantastic. Good stuff fellas ✌🏻

Thanks Mazzy - I am sure the Stonebone album is still available - certainly worth a pick up! That sounds a dream early 70's line-up! Did the gig live up to it's potential?
@omniversal73 жыл бұрын
Hi Mazzy. This update from the Creed Taylor Produced blog re JJ Johnson; "If your local record store can’t get, or has sold out of Record Store Day copies, bide your time. The #RSD2020 release is record store day first album, which means it should be on standard black vinyl and in the catalogue by the end of the year."

Mark really did sell that Stonebone well, Mazzy :) A great tip, I would have missed otherwise. After the session, like many, I got on-line and ordered a copy. Hope you also find a copy. /Paul

Great meeting with Paul. So much fun. That meters lp is a monster lp, and yes...ain't no use is Loft all the way. Fantastic long track. Let freedom ring is another blue note fav. You can't go wrong with mclean's blue note material in fact. That czech lp is really nice indeed. Ferguson another cheap heat, very cool. Take care guys

Sooooo good to see Paul with you guys. I've always been intrigued with that Stonebone album and I didn't know they reissued it for this year. I didn't wait, I just went online and pulled a copy while watching this video. Ahhhhhh, John pulls out the New York Art Quartet... NICE. That RAS record sounded really good; totally unfamiliar with that. This would not be a guest appearance by Paul without showing a kickass African record. This was a fantastic visit! Cheers, TONE

Breaking out the big guns with the New York Art Quartet John. I was able to get an early press of The Grodeck Whipperjenny from Dillon at Noble Records when he first opened. Hard one to figure out where to file. That guy from Glasshouse Records just stopped by Noble Records here recently. Great to see Paul here. Another brilliant session keeping my lockdown entertained. Cheers gentlemen.

I think I might have forgotten to show that Soul Jazz set recently but I definitely did when I first got it a while back - I had actually just been listening to it again shortly before he passed. There's a great documentary on Bunny Lee I just watched, I picked up the DVD but the whole thing is available on KZbin, it is called I Am The Gorgon. There's a figure tossed out that Lee produced something like 47 albums in 1977 alone! I nearly bought a copy of that Popcorn Wylie LP several years ago - hadn't heard of it, it was part of a large collection so I ended up putting it back and getting something else. I've been looking for Inspiration Information for years, for some reason I've acquired two copies of Freedom Flight (one still sealed) but never come across that one. Discovered him through the Luaka Bop comp from some years ago. Good to see Paul here, cheers guys!

I am pretty sure you had shown the Bunny Lee - or maybe a Sounds of the Universe email arrived serendipitously to remind me to buy it (they are very good at doing that!) Thanks for heads up on the Bunny Lee doc too...

I’m glad Shuggie never joined the Stones after Inpiration Information. .cant believe he turned Quincy down to produce what would have been his next album. . an ideal fantasy album. .bit like when Prince turned down Maurice White as producer.
@drrhythmn3 жыл бұрын
Wow Ed - I did not know Shuggie was even in the running for that gig with the Stones - or those two missed production opportunities for Shuggie and Prince - I would love to have heard how those albums would have turned out!
@Ed-Topo-1083 жыл бұрын
@@drrhythmn Hi Mark, I read that Prince had a deal offer (Columbia?) with Maurice White to co-produce but Prince went to Warner Bros and had total control. I can’t imagine a better mix of For You, even by White. I thought the Stones got Billy Preston to ask Shuggie to join the band but he turned them down. He should been huge. Reminds me of Betty Davis & Sly Stone’s careers.
