I feel you brother ! I have a top load HE washer and I can't tell you how many times I've pulled a load of clothes out and found DRY SPOTS on my clothes. Having to rewash again. I absolutely hate these HE washers !! I hope the government realizes that these things are NOT saving any water. Because we are all having to rewash our clothes. Or, like you said, wash 1 pair of underwear at a time.

I know this is an old video and you've probably figured this out by now, but HE washers start the cycle by weighing the clothes in the washer before adding water. It will add what it thinks is the appropriate amount of water for the weight. So, with that what you need to do is take a towel and saturate it until it's thoroughly wet. Wring it out so it's not dripping and add it in with all your other clothes. Start the washer. Your load will now have added weight and will in turn add more water. Also, HE washers suck.

That's what I did. Put in a couple of wet towels to "trick" the sensor that it's a heavier load than it really is.

I do exactly the same with my Bosch 😂 the clothes come out soooo much better with the added water! There’s a reason laundry mat machines use more water and get the cycle done in 28min 😊

I determined myself that the best way to get the cleanest clothes is to either add water manually to the barrel, which sometimes empties anyways or......I put my clothes in and add the detergent. I set it to my rinse and spin cycle. I wait until the water is FULLY added, which is about 3 to 4 minutes. This cycle on my front end loader fills with the most water. Then I push pause and simply turn it to my desired full cycle. Add fabric softener now if desired and if you are going to let it complete its cycle and be done. I like to set the cycle to no spin and then after the cycle is completed without spinning I then add my fabric softener and then give it another rinse with spin and my clothes come out fresh and clean. One thing to note too is if you have hard water, the water inlet part clogs fairly quickly and has been an issue of mine at least once a year we change the part. The hot and cold are separate parts. Also make sure you are cleaning your washing machine out once a month and cleaning by that bottom left door drain tube and lint trap. Also water sits in the bottom of the barrel and if you haven't did clothes for a few days, the water gets stagnant and will stink up your clothes. So if are one to only do clothes once or twice a week, I would recommend doing a rinse with an empty basin before adding clothes. Also never close your washer door, always leave it cracked open and remove laundry asap, because I think they say after 15 minutes bacteria starts to form and grow. Hope this was helpful.

(1) You could wash your cloths on bedding mode and it will use a lot more water. The problem is it uses a milder spin. If you machine will allow you to manually increase the spin on the bedding mode, then you're all set. (2)Another thing you could do is wet the cloths before you wash them. This increases the weight the washer sees to determine how much water it adds itself.

I bought the Bosch Series 8. It washes really well and it does have the 4D system where it sprays the clothes while they are spinning with the soapy water as to coat everything and my cycles are not less than 3 hours. I use the Soaking feature and the water plus features as well, that helps. If you soak, it soaks them for an hour with detergent, then drains the water and brings in more water to make like a puddle of water to wash clothes in and it sprays them. I really don't know how I feel about this, but my clothes are always clean, but I do agree with you to a great extent.

Water saving hysteria is here in Norway also... Here we locally get water from a river, the water you don`t use will run into the ocean and so do the washing water anyway (with no cleaning)... I have used this trick myself but usually I just wash the clothes 2 times with the last one without washing soap for it to get all the soap out of the clothes (the washer do not rinse well enough but cleans ok).

It's not just Europe that's not giving a lot of water into your washing machine. I have a brand new LG washer and you can't even see the water in my washer. The clothes are all you can see. I'm trying to find a solution. Someone said to let the wash start and then cancel and start all over and since wet clothers are heavier they said more water will come in when it's restarted. I'm afraid to do that as maybe it won't work. So I think I'll just add more water. It drives me nuts ! Makes swear your clothes will get just as clean, but I don't know about that. Don't add more detergent though.

Thanks for the input, I miss my old appliances. We bought this Kenmore Washer 22352 4.2 Cu.ft. in August 2018. I really consider it JUNK! since it doesn't even clean the clothes. The bad, even when I have manually added water, the "auto sense" dumps the water out and resumes to its' defective HE mode. How does the government and corporation is allowed to have so much control over our lives? While they are the biggest energy and resources hogs. I will attempt to take this machine apart and see if I can remove and disconnect these auto sensors, afterall, we are human and must outsmart these machine. Terminator!

I got 2 words for you, Top Loader! I didn’t realize that there is a water shortage in Romania. Here in Las Vegas all of the water that goes down the drain is cleaned and returned to Lake Mead, so “saving water” inside your house doesn’t save any water at all. Reducing the water that is used outside on landscaping, and golfcourses does not return to the lake. I would assume that all of your wastewater is returned to the river that runs through your town and is reused again anyways, so add water and wear clean clothes.

What I do is this: I get the clothes wet first so that when the machine weighs the clothes at the beginning of the cycle it thinks there is a large amount because water is heavy. I put the clothes in then pour a pot of water over them. That way you get more water during the wash and the rinse.

The regulations are writen by people who don't use appliances but they KNOW how to save water no many how many times you have to redo a wash to get it clean. In the US the on;y way around this is to buy a commercial washing machine that does have a water level select switch that lets you decide how much water to use. They cost several hundred more but at least they actually do clean clothes.

Currently I am using a housemate’s washing machine. It’s a “smart”Maytag top loader. I have tried putting the clothes in and adding water to get them heavier and then draining that said water. Then throw my detergent in and start it up again. I did this after a recommendation from another KZbinr. Well for me it did not work. It still does not adjust for the heavier weight in the drum….so NOW what I do is start the filling, then go fill 3 or more 5 gallon buckets of water from the bathtub, depending on the size. It basically covers the clothes and actually helps the clothes circulate, cleaning the clothes better. Then I do the same on the rinse cycle. What a pain in the ass. Efficient? Ha what a joke !!! I’m glad I have my front loaders for my next house

Would be great to figure out how to add a few pounds to the weight factor. Right now I have plastic jugs I fill in the kitchen and if I'm not happy with the water level I pour in water until I'm happy. What I would like to do is rig up a hose in the laundry room and just add what I want. This reminds me of the toilets you have to flush 2 and 3 times cause we are saving water. If you have a little dib dab load skimpy water might be fine but I have a family so we all need CLEAN clothes.

I've even started soaking my clothes with tons of water to add weight, gambling that weight is a pivotal metric these machines use to adjust the water volume. Now, an alternative idea came to mind: What about a water-filled hot water bottle or those small inflatable toys meant for children? Could these hack the system? But, then again, we aren't looking for a workaround, we're striving for a solution! Enter, the 'bulky' setting on my washer. Interestingly, even though it claims not to perform load sensing, it still somehow falls short of providing enough water. To top it off, it restricts me from choosing the high-speed spin option. Isn't the pursuit of clean laundry challenging enough? 😂 The design of front-loaders doesn't help either; they hardly fill up enough to allow a deep soak of clothes in an oxygen bleach solution overnight. If only it did! The soaking period gives the chemical time to work effectively, cutting back on repeat washes, extending garment lifespan, and even contributing to water conservation and reduced landfill waste. It's nice to realize that my frustration resonates with others. As a mom of two - with two big dogs in a small home - and a background as a Chemical Engineer specializing in Environmental Engineering, these inefficiencies really needle me. Governmental decisions often have a confounding lack of foresight and practicality that's frustrating. The real-world scenario begs for more insight into the overall picture! And here’s a thought: let’s get more female engineers on board. Without resorting to stereotypes, they could bring much-needed perspectives to processes like laundry and dishwashing, grappling with real-life, everyday family needs.
