Venetian Masks - Mold Creation

In this video you will find out how to create a plaster mold that will allow you to create, starting from scratch, the classic Venetian paper-mâché masks.
To make the mold you need a clay model that acts as a "positive". To build these models you have to be a sculptor.
We have entrusted to our friend and sculptor Paola Stella of www.ithacagall... who made this face of Apollo located in Logetta Sansovino in St. Mark's Square.

Could you also do it with a wooden mask? Actually I am way better in carving with wood than in sculpting with clay.

Good morning, unfortunately a wooden model is not recommended because it could give problems in the extraction phase.

Thank you for your quick reply. I just checked your shop and was wondering if you are selling the alabaster plaster powder that is used for the plaster model in your video? And also the supplies that are needed for the Paper Mache model. I'd like to try it at home and thought it would be best to use the same supplies so that I can strictly follow the instructions from the video. Your homepage shows another video which is called: "Venetian Masks: how to make them" where the mold looks different. It doesn't have the round shape but is more angular. Is it the same material or is that something different?

Good evening, we think it's for you cheaper to buy the alabaster chalk dust at any construction resale. As far as the difference of form which has seen the two molds is not important, however, the material is the same. For paper you can write to [e-mail] to get more informations.
