I'm sitting here saying to myself, "She gets it, she really gets it!" Thank you for this two-part reaction to Led Zeppelin's inaugural album. The British took American blues and created an amazing genre of music by adding Rock and you can hear it in the Yardbirds, John Mayall, Cream, Blind Faith, The Rolling Stones, Ten Years After and on and on. Zeppelin added the heavy rock to the blues and really established something very unique and moving. I loved watching it move you and it was amazing to see how much you enjoyed it. Thank you again and enjoy the journey!

@@uosuaq I think he used a bit of extra gain at times when he used the bow. Not a raging fuzz but dialed back for a bit of extra sustain and body. A Tonebender is an early guitar signal distortion device, an early guitar pedal. Jimmy probably had a few of them as they all sound different. He had been using the bow when he was playing with The Yardbirds, so yes, he had experience with using them prior to recording the first Led Zeppelin album.

Still loving how much you're digging this. The look on your face says it all. 🙂 How Many More Times is the second song (after Dazed and Confused) on the album in which Jimmy Page uses a violin bow on the guitar. That's the trippy sound you're hearing in the second part of the interlude. Jimmy Page is the only guitar player in the band, and is one of the GOATs (Greatest Of All Time). John Bonham is on drums and is one of the GOATs of drums. John Paul Jones is on bass and keyboards, and is an often underrated musical genius. Robert Plant is on vocals, and as you can hear nobody sounds quite like him. His voice, especially in the early years, has such bluesy power and is dripping with such passion he makes you feel every word. Then there's the writing and composition, etc... brilliant. So four of the greatest musicians came together and created something greater than the sum of their parts. They are certainly one of the greatest rock bands of all time.

@@allanbluzdude -- from Snopes (of all places :-) "The triple neck seemed inevitable after attending a Zep gig and watching John swapping between three instruments, mid song, during their acoustic interlude. Went home and built it, took it to show him….He goes “Wow, can’t wait to see [Jimmy] Page’s reaction…How much?” Skipped home feeling like a millionaire, with £400 in my pocket. The following year he wanted it glamourised, so ensued my first venture into inlays. Jones used the triple neck during the mid- to late-1970s, and can be seen playing it at a June 1977 concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City" --- So, I strongly suspect (and seem to remember) that his guitar playing made it on to some LZ studio records/songs, too.

@@fewwiggle Jones can play numerous instruments, including guitar. My understanding is he did play some additional guitar parts on a few songs on their studio albums, and on some songs like "Ten Years Gone" when played live. Maybe others can tell us more about which songs specifically. My comments weren't meant to exclude the possibility of the members playing different instruments from time to time. Forgot to also mention that Plant plays harmonica. He can play guitar too, though I'm not sure if he ever did for Zeppelin.

The guy can play anything, and even created a couple instruments When with Them Crooked Vultures. Nice band that did one album. Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age on guitar and singing, and some guy named Dave Grohl on drums. Seems he played drums with Nirvana, and sings and plays guitar with Foo Fighters. Grohl tells a story where he had to tell Paul McCartney no to playing bass because we already have the greatest bassist of all time. Those two are my #1 drummer and bassist ever, respectively

Just when you think you found your favorite Zeppelin song you hear the next song then it becomes your favorite. Soo. You will give up on picking a favorite song or album because every song from every album touch you in a different way.. for a different reason. Depending on where you are at emotionally. There is a song to take you there. That's what makes it impossible to pick a favorite. Every song unique. There are no bad Led Zeppelin songs, only timeless masterpieces I bet you can't wait to hear what their second album is like. Because you might think ,"How could it get any better?" Trust me it does but in a creative unique way every song is different. LZ1 you heard some hard Rock, Blues, Spanish, Folk, Psychedelic, All combined with the power only Led Zeppelin could infuse. I am looking forward to the second album reaction, it shows a different side of the band and you have not heard a bad song after 2 albums. Then the 3rd album goes in a totally different direction. In the 3rd album , there's alot of acoustic ,Folk ,Blues Rock. you will have started to think that there's nothing this band can't do. Then the 4th album you realize that expect the unexpected. A powerful record. Hard and heavy yet soft and emotional. Continuing to the 5th album ,House's of the holy. Turns to a little punk, some Funk, Reggae, even a Ballad again done how only Zeppelin could. Now it's time to hear some live music the double album The Song Remains the Same . I suggest you react to the movie that was recorded over 3 nights in 1973 at Madison Square Garden. It was filmed in full Dolby surrond sound with all the top of the line motion picture cameras. A concert experience you will never forget... Then to Physical Grafitti heavy guitars acoustic guitars, slide guitars, some Pop some Gospel a true mix of great songs, trust me you will see. I'm looking forward going down this rabbit hole with you. I love your enthusiasm of hearing these timeless classics for the first time. Brings tears to my eyes reliving the experience with you

This was our party music in high school (1970s).. in the 70's, masterpieces were falling out of the sky every 6 weeks... Yes, Zeppelin, Genesis, Rush, Elton John, Boston, Frampton, Van Halen... it was a deluge... We knew it was special.. we didn't expect those 6 or 7 years to be entirely foundational for everything that followed.. there was a high focus on musicianship, mastery... that kind of skill I think was responsible for the creative floodgates being opened. (Think about it, what kind of music can you write if you are limited by your instrument and what notes you are able to play...if you're a master, there is no limitation.) Dead center of everything was The Dark Side of the Moon... both sides of the album were played at EVERY party.

Some interesting facts about this album. It was recorded with only 36 hours of studio time over the course of a couple weeks. The band had no record deal at the time, so the studio time was paid for by Jimmy Page and Peter Grant (their manager). This gave them complete artistic freedom to create their music as they wanted, with no pressure from record company executives to create radio hits. When they signed with Atlantic prior to releasing this album, they (Peter Grant) negotiated a deal that gave them complete control over what was released in their name. This allowed the band evolve as they did, from their first album onward. Also, due to their immense popularity, Led Zeppelin’s focus on album-oriented rock was a key factor in driving the music industry away from the top-40 singles-oriented format, to an album-oriented structure.

We need a movie about the extraodinary way Zeppelin came together from pure neccessity to fulfill an imploding Yardbird's touring contract. Unlike the Beatles, who spent years perfecting chemistry, Zeppelin came together within weeks, and became the most cohesive band in history.

Led Zeppelin was really the culmination of the British blues scene which started in the early 60's. If you like this sound try the first two Jeff Beck Group albums. "Truth" and "Beck-Ola".

....and this was way back in 1969 for their first album venture. I was lucky to see them live back in 1975 at Long Beach Arena , Calif. after my first wife and I hitch hiked from Indiana to Southern California. We were young in our 20's. We got jobs and an apartment and luckily Led Zep was coming to Long Beach. Zeppelin had just release the "Physical Graffiti" LP and they did "Kashmir " live ,for the first time. Amazing! We walked 10 blocks to the Arena. The tickets were only $10.50 then and the band played for 3 1 /2 hours without a break. The audience was respectful and so was the group. I have never seen a greater performance and I have seen many rock acts since. Peace and enjoy Zeppelin's other albums. I believe there are ten. Today I am a 73 year old rocker & former rock bass man and singer "Deep River Rock Band".Forever ! Rock On!

When you said how into guitars you were, at the beginning, all I could think was, "Girl, strap in, because you are about to fall in love for a lifetime." All four of them were acknowledged Masters not their crafts. Paige may in fact be the best guitarist who ever lived - I certainly can't think of anyone _better_. As for Bonham, his only peer is Neil Peart from Rush and their styles are so radically different that it feels wrong to compare them. No, this may be my all-time favorite debuted album. Every single song on it is a BANGER.

It's wonderful to watch this young woman listen to Led Zep for the first time just like we did all those years ago. The best guitarist (Hendrix was in a cataogory of his own), the best vocalist, the best drummer (along with Ginger Baker) and the best bass player, as soon as listen to them you are hooked for life! Just wait until she hears Kashmir and When the Levee Breaks! 😅

You are so much fun to watch. The look of share joy on your face as you react is so much fun! Every member of the band is considered and all time great. With John Bonham the drummer is still often called the Goat. Jimmy Page on guitar is the former and mastermind behind Zeppelin. He also either helped or did engineer all their albums. At the time he was considered the top two or three best guitarists. Only Jimi Hendrix clearly ahead of him. Robert Plant was considered the Goat of singers back then but now there are others as good or better than him because they have been trained to sing and took better care of their voices. Robert did neither until later in his career when he had already lost some of his voice. And John Paul Jones on base, organ and just about everything else is an amazing bassists and organizer of songs. All rock bands to come pretty much modeled themselves after Zeppelin's formula. In order to become the next Zeppelin They have been called the most influential band after the Beatles in rock history. And they are still around number three in all time sales. By the way. Zeppelin two, four and Physical Graffiti are considered all time great albums. Also, starting next album, a fun Easter Egg hunt is to see if you can catch the songs with Lord of the Rings references in them. Robert Plant was a HUGE fan of the books.

So nice to see you enjoying this band. I remember exactly where I was when I first hear it in early 1969. In Jersey, one of the Channel Islands off the north coast of France. I ended up seeing them live four times. Watching your reaction reminded me exactly why I got hooked on them. As someone else pointed out the instrument you were wondering about was the guitarist playing his guitar with a violin bow. Another few fun facts, the drummer and singer were only 20 years old. The band had been together for about eight weeks (!) when this was recorded and they recorded the entire album in about 30 hours. The tapping on Black Mountain Side was a session drummer playing Tablas. You were quite correct (small drums). If you listen to the album again, listen closely to what the drummer does with his right foot (on the kick drum). His name was John Bonham and he was truly one of the greatest rock drummers of all time. Led Zeppelin 2 will blow your mind.

Lucky you. I grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan and Zeppelin never came to my city. In 1976, a friend skipped out of school in grade 10 and drove 1000 miles to Seattle to see Led Zeppelin. Amazing; I was a fan since 1970 as a ten year old. LOL. You and me would have had something to talk about in the 1970s. LOL. Cheers to you. (p.s. wait until she discovers Frank Zappa! She will love the guitar work on "Ya Honza".)

My specific location the first time I heard LZ1 is lost in the mists of time, but watching our hostess react to this brought back to me how great this album is and what an impact it had on me and my friends. I also saw Zep 4 times, but the 2nd and 4th times were horrors, and the last one convinced me that I was done with paying to subject myself to loud, loud, SUPERLOUD! rock bands and their giant egos. I did get paid to work at the US Festival '84, and hearing Quiet Riot and Motley Crue screaming "Are you ready to par-tay?!!" starting at 9 in the morning, almost made me wistful for the artistry of Zep...but wistful is a sensation that can't survive a moment like that, so I just suffered through it, not unlike any bad trip.

I keep saying this but I love how you react to this music! You are about 50 years younger than me and you are just as thrilled about the same things on the album I was when I first listened to it. It is a wonderful feeling to share music with someone who enjoys it as you do. If you were my grandchild you would be my favorite LOL. The way you catch on to the musical composition and interplay of the musicians is outstanding. Some of the things you are pointing out I did not hear until the 2nd or 3rd time I listened to the album. I applaud you for reaching back into this era and actually enjoying the depth of the band. Love your reactions! Keep them coming. The Zeppelin collection of music will be so enjoyable for you to explore just like you are doing for Pink Floyd. All those weird sounds you hear it’s from the guitar being played with a cello bow and guitar pedals… fun fact, the guitarist Jimmy Page produced the bands album! Which is very impressive even for today’s generation considering how well mixed the whole album is… you would think there were a full team of producers that worked on it but no, it was mainly him and the other band members 🤟🏾😎🤟🏾
