The Vervet Forest - Episode 29 - Orphan baby Vervet monkeys Jeffrey and Trisha move to Disneyland with Pyewacket and they meet the cute baby monkey Janet. Sleepy baby monkey Jeffrey gets his first bath and Janet makes sure she isn't left out. Janet also shows how well a wild thing baby monkey can drink milk from a bottle. We rescue a new ex-pet orphan baby monkey from Johannesburg, her name is Maggie and she is a great road trip monkey partner and makes the cutest baby monkey sounds. We bring her back to the Vervet Monkey Foundation a non-profit vegan animal rescue center for rehabilitating wildlife where she gets to meet her new animal friends in Engeltjie troop. Funny monkey Ellyn finally joins Skrow troop with her monkey foster mom Buffy and Groot, Mo and Ellyn are very pleased to have her join them.
This is a follow up to our National Geographic hit animal documentary titled Little Monkey House. Check your Nat Geo Wild listings for show times.

I'm always so happy to see a new video from you! I'm still pissed that KZbin isn't giving you ads, though. I've been trying to figure out a way for channel subscribers to contact KZbin, if all your viewers sent messages to them (or tweets or comments elsewhere) then maybe they'd give you some revenue, because you deserve it more than some other channels! Thanks for your time making videos Kyle!

Thanks! I know, currently theyre saying that they should be through their backlog of monetization by end of June. They said end of April, then said end of June... So we'll see. I've watched some videos of people talking about the issue and it seems that a lot of channels are still under review and it's a pretty big issue across the board. I'm glad to hear that your rooting for us and willing to go that extra mile. I also wish there was a way to reach out to youtube and get the problem fixed sooner than later, but I just can't seem to find anything. But not to worry, I love making these videos too much to let a little hiccup in monetization hold me back. :)

Yay…..Monkey videos that are happy! It’s nice to see that the babies are rescued, loved, pampered, and preparing to get a mom and return to the wild in a safe environment. They are “where” they should be……in a sanctuary not in a home. A lot of there stories are so tragic but we are guaranteed happiness in the end. Whoever thought this would be a worthwhile video Bless Your Heart!❤️

Hi Kyle, great video once again!!! I live for Thursday to see a new episode. Two questions for you 1) was that Groot riding on his foster moms back like a cowboy (I LOVE that kid) and 2) I low keyed stalked you and know that you’ve produced and directed things before, but how did you get interested in vervet monkeys? What was it about them that made you want to move to Africa to film them and tell their story? I know for me, my obsession started when I stumbled on your Instagram page and saw your first video of Groot. I just fell in love with that little guy and it inspired me to go to the VMF and volunteer there this coming January. Keep up the good work, you guys are frigging AMAZING!!!!

Questions for Kyle!!! 1. When is your birthday? 2. How did you get involved with the Vervet Monkey Foundation? 3. Where from the USA are you from originally? (I understand the foundation is located in South Africa) 4. What is one of your favorite memories working with the monkeys? 5. Whats your favorite part about what you do? 6. Do you know how amazing this is??! (haha) and 7. Do you miss living in the states?
@VervetMonkey
@VervetMonkey 6 жыл бұрын
lol. I'll just answer these here 🙂 1. March 12 2. I first volunteered here back in 2007 3. Los Angeles 4. When I came back from being away for months and one of the babies named Scotty who I had spent a lot of time with during the foster program and who was now out in the troop came over to the fence and asked to be let into the intro enclosure just so that she could climb up onto the feeding cage and stare at me turning her head side to side. It was wild to see that she remembered be so well and wanted to come check me out. 5. Hanging out with monkeys. They're the most entertaining. 6. Duh. haha. 7. Nah, sometimes it's rough here, but I'd take this lifestyle over living in a city any day and big cities like LA aren't really my favorite. But the US is huge and I just haven't yet found a place that makes sense to me like being here does. ✌️

You're a pisces!!! The psychic! Amazing! I lived in LA too. Well, for about 5 years, in Santa Monica. But I can see how nothing could compare to this life you're living. Helping lil babies turn into bigger babies, and helping the world by showcasing such compassion and love. I am a born and raised girl from Hawaii, and I will say...this is paradise. Poop and all. I know I say this often, but thank you thank you thank you for all that y'all do. And thank you even more for letting us into these lives (including yours!) I am truly invested and I will always wish the best for all of you! Just like Scotty, I can't forget you and what you do! All the light and best energy forward!

axlrio axlrio yes it does. Of course monkeys pass away from time to time, especially our older ones, but every year we receive more orphans and the sanctuary grows more crowded. It’s our dream to buy several hundred acres of land to create a wildlife reserve called The Vervet Forest which will act as a release site for all the troops we have here at the foundation. That’s the whole reason I started this project, so we could more actively pursue that dream.

Kyle, thanks so much as always. I don't have anything brilliant (haha) to say this time, but as always, I love seeing the Vervet monkeys and appreciate you work... I have often wondered what the temperature there is. I take note of what the humans are wearing, and imagine in Africa it must get excruciatingly hot at times. But, I did notice the volunteer who was drying off the freshly bathed monkeys was wearing a sweater and shorts. Stay cool and carry on!

lbird 😊 thanks! The temperatures for sure fluctuate, baby season is rainy season so we can have times where it’s cold and rainy for days on end, but it can also get ridiculously hot, sometimes over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, plus humidity.

I slowly become an addict to your channel. I can't understand someone may shoot at these creatures, it is like shooting at a human toddler. Do you have sufficient land for the adults and newcoming babies? Bravo for your work (and dedication). Ps I had choking nightmares after Butterbean's death, I felt for you. RIP sweet Butterbean.

marianne le bris Thank you for watching! We do have land, but our dream is to create a wildlife reserve on several hundred acres of land in South Africa which we will call The Vervet Forest and this land will act as a release site for the troops of monkeys here at the VMF. 😊 wow, that’s scary. Thank you for your compassion and love. ✌️

I would love to know more about your troops in general. Do they live as vervet 's would in the wild? Do you somehow limit them from having more baby's, or do your females also give birth to their own baby's? Thank you!

I have a question, I’ve been watching all the episodes and I read all the volunteer information because I’m dying to come out there this year or next year. I was confused when I went to the link in the volunteer packet about getting a visa. I couldn’t figure out what kind of visa I would need if I was going to be out there for 4 weeks. How would I apply for one and how much time in advance would I need to apply? Lastly, I know the volunteers do a number of different things, but how much time do they get with the babies? Thanks!!! I love the episodes! I only wish they were longer and more frequent!! 😍
@VervetMonkey
@VervetMonkey 6 жыл бұрын
Melissa Torres Awesome! It all depends on where you’re from for the visa, I know that If you’re from the US you don’t need a visa for a 3 month or less stay. If you’re gonna stay for over 3 months you need to get a volunteer visa. You can always just search on google for South African visa requirements for your country. Baby season is November to January. So if you are here those months you will be with babies, but there’s no way to say how much time you will spend with them, it all depends on what needs to be done around the VMF and how many volunteers there are, and that time of year is very busy. Your best bet is when you apply to let them know what you’re interested in.

Vervet Monkey Foundation I’ve heard there’s no bag limit on how many Vervets can be hunted. I think a prerequisite to obtaining a hunting permit in S.A. should be watching episodes of T.V.F., to make hunters aware of the potential trauma they’re creating by indiscriminately shooting monkeys from long range. I know the farmers would disagree with this, but imagine if the roles were reversed, and the monkeys were indiscriminately killing members of the farmers family because of their encroachment into what has traditionally been the monkeys land. Food for thought.

I have only been watching your videos for a couple of months, therefore I am curious about several things once these orphans become adults are they completely free also were the foster moms orphans? If a baby gets sick is it retrived from the foster mom idf so how ?
@VervetMonkey
@VervetMonkey 6 жыл бұрын
sharon grissom those are great questions and I’ll definitely add them to the video and I’ll answer them here briefly. The troops are not completely free, they are in several hectare enclosures surrounded by electric fences, so when the babies join the moms they join the troop in the enclosure. It’s our dream to release all the troops free one day, but I’ll talk more about that in the video. As for retrieving a sick baby, we have to trap them which is a lot of work and includes coaxing them back into an intro enclosure. Great questions! There’s a lot more I can speak about on all those questions. ☺️

Hi Kyle, I know I recently ask you this question, but I'm going to ask it again. It's not that you didnt answer my question, but I was looking for a boarder answer and not just pertaining to ur monkeys at the farm.I also watch the maquac monkeys in China. Would a mother feed another baby monkey even if she did not birth that monkey.
@VervetMonkey
@VervetMonkey 6 жыл бұрын
eshealer1 I can’t answer for other monkeys. I work here with Vervet monkeys. Mother monkeys who adopt a baby do not lactate because they did not give birth, so they cannot technically feed the adopted babies. The babies still suckle on the test for comfort, but they derive no nutrients from the mother. Also this is why we teach the babies to use the feeding cage.
