I feel like a slightly CGI, uncanny valley look almost works for Clu tho! He's not a real person, it almost makes him feel artificial and not real at a very subconscious basic level. It doesn't work when it's actually supposed to be young Kevin Flynn in the real world, but I think it really suits Clu being a slightly off version of his creator.

Tron Legacy: I've always seen CLU in the film as being an imitation of a human. He's a computer program and so he looks fake in comparison to the real Kevin Flynn. The problem is that they used that same model for a younger Jeff Bridges in the real world. Given how he already should have been a decade older. I think it would have been great to just make him look younger via makeup and then use the model for ClU. Obviously it was the first major uses of deaging and now they'd be able to do it much better. Matrix Reloaded: You could see the crappy simulation as the system actually being taxed. Neo and Smith are doing to much that the GPU is struggling in that area. So the physics and resolution get torn to shreds. Again things that today would look much better. I hope they get that John Wick actor for the 4th film....

This is exactly what I was about to write about the whole Clu being a "bad" cgi job...For Clu it was perfect because he's a program, but as you said...they used it for the flashback shot as well. I guess with tech like deep fake and all that, it'll be easier to do it nowadays and definitely in the future...
