For the past 4 days, I've been trying to paint volumes on my slimux skin and have been struggling with the top parts and posture. Every time I struggle with something about painting , Vince comes and makes a exact video about it. Great video as always!

The detail about the pink made me feel really proud. I started painting this year. And I got myself some 40k Orks for the beginning. And I choose to paint their nose/snout with a bit of a pink (and sometimes purple) highlight.

Orc skin is basically why I love painting. It's very flexible and to be honest quite hard to completely fail with (unlike human, caucasian skin). + orcs usually have quite exaggerated poses, facial expressions which makes it a lot easier to work with. Orcs ❤️💚❤️

You paint a mean orc ! (although I had deja vu of Larry the ogre). Makes me want to buy an army just to practice. I have some mantic deadzone orcs buried somewhere that will get painted some day. He really stands out with that blue armor. It seemed alittle odd, but then thought maby he reforged some space marine armor? Thanks Vince! I always look forward to your videos on Saturdays! Makes my day!

I enjoy and learn from your videos. I wish you would show how you mix the colors with proportions.
@VinceVenturella Жыл бұрын
Most of this wasn't really mixing, it was just the straight colors, but when I do mix, it's always very free form, that is the challenge, it's cooking, not baking. :)
@quahodron2756 Жыл бұрын
Interresting. My Orks are way lighter green, basing on Elysian Green and going up with several mixes 'til Screaming Skull and with shades mixes towards Lupercal Green.

I've been watching hobby painting videos on my journey over the past year or so. Though I'm actually just now getting to Vinces hobby channel.( Been through a few podcast with him and a couple others.) But after watching a few of the old school "Hobby Cheating" glaze tutorials and some of these newer videos. I better understand why our favorite miniature hobby painter's "favorite hobby painter" is Vince. Your videos have unlocked something in my painting over the last few weeks. Idk if it's the videos. Or maybe the timing of my own process. But I've made some major strides recently. Thank you for these vids snd all you do for the hobby man. New Sub here. I'll be around.

most excellent work. I would love to see a guide like this on an alternative orc skin tone. like the rusty/brown orange from wow (the non demon blood orcs, forget what they're called). do you still use pinks to encourage the concept of "blood flow"? What color to contrast between muscles? "blend"? the shadows.
@VinceVenturella Жыл бұрын
Yes on the pink for sure. A purplish red tone is great for those shadows.

... and with this vid - I had to quit slacking and join your Patreon. ok - it's at the lowest level, but we'll work up! Thanks Vince! Two comments that are kinda "aha" to me - colored water - I've been using way to thick ; and the red/pink commentary. I've been planning to branch out to orks to put more "fun" in my painting and this is all inspirational!

I have heard some people on youtube talk about the muscle islands as a strictly bad thing and that COULD be correct. When it comes to orcs though, having muscle islands is something I like*. If done with intent it leaves a cell shade-like/animation like appearance, which I find very nice on GW orcs specifically.
@VinceVenturella Жыл бұрын
If you're going for comic book style you are absolutely correct.

Is it easier to blend using a medium from the manufactures instead of using water for these types of blends?

It can be a little easier when you start for glazing, but in the end, water will be all you need.

A little side question if you where to paint and Orc holding two sword one of Steel and one of Silver. How would you distinguish the two?
@trisbane4086 Жыл бұрын
I would personally make the steel one darker and give it more scratches and rough edges. The silver I would make a lighter color and less abraded.
@VinceVenturella Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think the comment above is pretty dead on. That being said, it won't really be a difference that is perceptable. You could go farther and weather and rust one but not the other (since Silver doesn't oxidie like iron), or add a bit of blue sheen to the silver but there is sort of a limit on distinguising silver colored metals.

I have previous videos in the playlist on speed painting orc and goblin skin. :) - Simply red to ivory as your zenithal, then a yellow/green thin tone filtered over.

I'm painting Sylvaneth with a lot of browns. Is there a color that works similarly to a complimentary shade? (I tried a dark blue since they're warm browns...?) Does it shift depending on the levels of RGB In the brown? Thanks for all the videos!
@VinceVenturella Жыл бұрын
Well, brown isn't really a color in the traditional sense, its a mixture that usually has a true color of orange (though that can vary), by that logic, you can do it, you want to find the true color and then work the complimentary color to that. So something like dark blues would work in most cases.
@theWolfnMiniatures Жыл бұрын

Is there an easy way to represent dry skin vs skin in a more humid environment on orks or any races? Whats the trick for dry skin? On black skin its easier to accomplish due to real life example photos but when doing it on fantasy skin or animal skin colors I have had a hard time. EDIT: The only thing that has worked semi-decently for me is pigment powders post varnish with smaller make-up brush to literally "powder" the skin.
@VinceVenturella Жыл бұрын
Yeah, a little pigment can do it, you can stipple in some grey, it's just a really hard thing to represent in that scale.
@GoldenRogueMinis Жыл бұрын
Great job as always, how long would this take you on average? I find skin takes me ages to get anywhere I’m happy with

@VinceVenturella Жыл бұрын

@Mikey__R Жыл бұрын
I do like that you always say it's a back and forth process. I think the idea that you only work in one direction, from darker to lighter, isn't ideal for the majority of painters. It's definitely not for me.
