This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new Vinfast VF7 compact electric SUV. Vinfast has introduced four electric SUVs to be delivered during 2023, called the VF6, VF7, VF8 and VF9. VinFast announced details of the VF6 and VF7, two smaller electric SUVs hitting the North American market this year.
Pre-orders start in March.
The VF6 is a FWD crossover with two trims, Eco and Plus. The Eco model has 174 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. The Plus model 201 horsepower and 228 lb-ft of torque.
Eco EV range is 399 km/248 miles (WLTP) and Plus 381 km/237 miles (WLTP).
The VF7 is a little larger than the VF6 and comes with FWD and AWD options.
Eco which is a FWD model has 201 horsepower and 228 lb-ft of torque. Plus AWD 348 horsepower and 368 lb-ft of torque.
Eco EV range is 450 km/280 miles (WLTP) and Plus 431 km/268 miles (WLTP).
Pricing has not been announced yet.

Vinfat in Vietnam is building 2 factories to make batteries. So buying this car is very secure. a car company built a factory in 2017 and has launched more than 10 models to the market. so they did a great job 3//

In Vietnam, the vf7 eco costs 39,000 USD for both vehicle and battery. If you rent the battery, the price will be 33000 USD.

A very refreshing design, inside and out. It will be interesting to see how The public will react to Vinfast and their offerings. So far… I’m impressed! It apparently is quiet enough to drown out the noise from the patrons of the Las Vegas Convention Center. And it is very sharp looking. Thanks for the video.

They are working on service centers throughout California. They are building a 4-billion dollar manufacturing plant in North Carolina so be assured that they plan to be around in 5 years! They also have the strong financial backing of a huge conglomerate called "Vingroup" in Vietnam that owns resorts, housing developments, hospitals, schools, and even a university, among other things..

I want Vinfast to succeed. There have been many scathing reviews about the VF8. Most of those issues are I believe software related and suspension related. Once they open their North Carolina plant, hopefully the quality will improve.

Interesting vehicle , wonder how long you would wait to get it fixed if you had an accident …when Tesla first hit the market it was months and months to get replacement items…even just simple body panels that as a rule are easy to come by… With a limited dealer network I would give it a pass..

Looks fantastic when you consider this comes from a new car manufacturer. If it has a great drive could become a big seller. Shame maunufacturer’s typically can’t extend range to above 300 miles yet. Will be interesting to hear the price and whether these make it to the UK. Not seen a Lincoln style gear selector before Zack.Probably the worst design feature I have ever seen inside a car! 😮

I know most oversea Vietnamese /Viet Kieu dislike and are against the communist government because of the fall of Saigon the country could have been richer under democracy so you will see a lot of random comments trash talking the cars based on feelings & negative sentiments rather than actual facts & proof. I plan to get the VF7 depending on the price, warranty and after sale support.

We actually delayed our VF8 order and will wait until March or April 2023 to make the deposit for the VF7. We're not tall and we don't like larger vehicles so the VF7 we saw at the LA Auto Show this past November is more for us. I kept hoping the range to be closer to 300 miles but I guess given our budget, there isn't any EV with that range any time soon.

Zack + Andrea, I'm not with the Nationalistic Posters in the comments, but 200hp or so for the FWD version seems UNDERPOWERED (so are the Toyota bZ4x+ and Subaru Solterra making the same output). Remember that due to the weight of the li-ion battery packs 200hp equals the performance of only 160hp in an ICE'd vehicle. The 340hp on the AWD are fine if they're to compete in the "Tesla Model Y money range" (I'd be impressed if they could sell the base VF7 FWD for "Model 3 money" or less). The range quoted in WLTP translates more or less to 220 mi / 350 km for FWD and 210 mi / 335 km for AWD in EPA standards (22% below WLTP numbers), not class-leading, but moderately decent using whatever North American source they can find (CATL, Panasonic...).

(figure the bZ4x is A SIZE BIGGER than the Bolt, but still...) No wonder Akio Toyoda was not pleased with his BEV's performance... (he's rushing "a do-over" for other BEV's) Now these are the parameters the Vietnamese have to face on the VF7 going against the bottom of the USDM BEV market. * the AWD Toyota makes 249 lb-ft, quite better, but still below the Bolt

When we get the opportunity to drive a production model, we will give a more thorough review, we have yet to drive a Vinfast production model. The Jalopnik article revealing how controlled the review was, Matt Farah saying he was offered $10000 to review the car. and the Bait and Switch "City Edition" VF8 with 179 miles of range. Only recently did I hear they paid influencers on Instagram and TikTok $10,000 to review their vehicle and yesterday about a US auto journalist being offered money as well. It's a shame Vinfast did this because it's hard to know what reviews are honest and which ones aren't especially if the reviewer doesn't disclose they were paid. We were never offered any money by Vinfast, nor would we accept any money if we were. I guess we don't have enough subs to be offered money....lol!

These EVs are not going to be popular in the Canadian Prairies due to the lack of charging infrastructure. My suggestion is if you're planning on sinking your hard earned money on an unproven SUV in Canada and it just has to be an EV, put a deposit on a Lotus Eletre, because no EV in this country is inexpensive. So why go half-measures with a Vinfast?

Actually those are Vietnamese from a Private Enterprise company (like Geely in China), but the US-spec models will be made in GA-US in a factory that's almost completely built (open later in '23).

Funny, Out of Specs Review has way different review with a somewhat actual test drive. Vinfast failed at everything (except real estate) and as the consumer, you should look into their history.

He did a review of the VF8 which I assume was a production model? This is a walk around video of the VF7 which is a prototype model. We will have to wait for a production model of the VF7 and do a more thorough review including driving it.

I wouldn't even buy any new model on the first year from any reputable car company, let alone a no-name, startup company like Vinfast. Look at the Tesla, how many years has it been on the market, after lots of modifications and yet it still face with technical issues. Good luck to those who are brave enough to risk with the new VF (toy???) cars.

VF was running its mouth about a battery range of 280, 290 until EPA tested and said its actually 179-mile range. In VF is a small company of VinGroup which funded and protected by the Communist Vietnamese government. VG is not an automobile company nor any tech company at all besides real estate. VG came out with VinPhone and bankrupted, then VF was born and came out with gasoline car roughly 3 years ago then they bankrupted also. In Vietnam, if customers complain about Vinfast cars, then the law enforcement will be called and harassed the customers.
