@CourtTV Why 40 minutes focused on abuse as mitigation? No facts about the crime. Calling them kids when in fact they were 21 and 19 when they plotted and committed this cold-blooded offing. It doesn't matter if they were abused. This was not self-defense. It was revenge and avarice. This feature was biased and salacious. Please do better.

I have watched the entire trial gavel to gavel. Being a 13th juror my vote would be, guilty of manslaughter. IMO the parents were monsters, Dr Oz was a manipulative narcissistic therapist, and in 1990 society didn't believe incest happened to males. It's all so tragic.
@truebluewonderful1139Ай бұрын
Apparently people who, as a child, haven't been abused in any way by a parent, have no idea how difficult or almost impossible it is for a young adult to talk about it! The abuser should feel ashamed, but it's the child who feels ashamed for what the parent did to him/her. It gives the child a horrible feeling while talking about it. That's what I saw when these two brothers did their best to tell the jurors about the sexual abuse. I knew they were telling the truth. When I was 17 I wanted to kill my father, because he had ruined our family. That has had many consequences for who we became as adults. I didn't kill him, because fire-weapons are illegal in my country and I was too afraid of him to go near him with a knife or a rock. And our mother never wanted to leave with us. I felt betrayed by her. She stayed for money, not for love. She didn't know what love was, like my father didn't. Set the brothers free!

It is like a chain holding you down, and if they are aggressive its not just chain, its lash and hammer too, and at the point you want to open your wings it becomes unbearable and confrontation becomes inevitable. Either confrontation, or you will forever stay stuck in arrested development phase, never your own person. Now, I am wondering, what are the possible means for a confrontation with a man as powerful as their father was? And not from a position of equals, but from a position of his subordinate. Its not a kind of man that will simply let you be. I dont know, what even was their other way out...

There are rather a lot who were physically or sexually abuse or both who kill their parents when they turn 18 to stop the abuse of themselves or siblings. But here another one for you to consider. Nick Robledo, Sapulpa Oklahoma. This case in the late 90s. Step-father was reported for choking him when Nick was 15. Child welfare said well, he is old enough to run away if he is abused. 4 months later Step-dad emptied a pistol into him, took the body and dumped it in Keystone Lake (where most dead bodies are dumped in this area) and then did go to police. He was charged with manslaughter and got 3 years. After all, Nick was a mouthy teen. Shall we do another, age 14, Vinnie Pacheco. Took into the back yard and shot in the head. Court ruled it a suicide because sister lied and set he shot himself although there was no blood in her bedroom where they dragged his body. Do you want some more? I have plenty. Unfortunately, there is a double standard. When girls kill parents and were abused, not much sentence if any. But boys, well didn't they enjoy it? If you live in them US in the early 1800s would your stance be no slave should go free unless they are all freed? Just some food for thought. Just one more example. Richard Cousins. Age 14 Sexually abused by a man who found large families groups of boys and would sexually abuse all of them. Time for the hearing and only Richard was still available to testify. Hearing was short. Obviously no one would molest a child who smoked pot-case closed. Committed suicide when he was 24. Have a good day.

Its not easy for most guys to admit they were abused and can understand why its taken this one so long to come forward. Its also crazy such strong mitigating evidence Wasn’t allowed to be heard.

If they get out they need to be on house arrest or some . Don’t just let convicted criminals walk around like Gypsy her ass on house arrest they did some time but just letting them walk out free ? Thats a big ass reach

A new witness coming forwards admitting he too was abused by their father could see them being freed. Getting a full life term without parole always seemed very harsh tbh. Plenty have committed even worse crimes and served far shorter terms. Considering their ages at the time it always seemed excessively harsh.

Yes, there was evidence other than the Menendez brothers' testimony, which baffles me that people didn't believe. Their father molested a boy from the band Menudo as well, so how in the world were they no believed? It's absolutely absurd! Eric and Lyle have been locked way too long and should be released. The fact that someone said they did it for money, they grew up wealthy, so that makes zero sense as well. Jose Menendez was a monster. Their testimonies were compelling, I absolutely believe them. They were trying not to cry in most of their testimonies describing in detail what they went through. It was absolutely heartwrenching to watch. Im a survivor myself, and I believed every word they said! Their grief and emotions were very real, in my opinion.

The fact is they murdered their parents, but there were certainly mitigating circumstances, horrifying ones, that should have come into play when they were sentenced. They should get out, they've done enough time.

@Essie-id2qf Sorry, but there is no excuse for committing such a horrendous crime. They were not children, they were adults. No one has the right to take someone's life. I know many people who went through terrible times when they were children and they did not kill their parents.

Now, you cannot be the judge and the jury, and you can't take the law into your own hands. But let's be honest, they were abused children, and it feels like they were railroaded by the prosecutors and law enforcement just to get a sentence in jail. How is that a fair trial when they didn't allow the abuse evidence in? I hope they get a second chance in life and get out. I hope they can get a new trial or something.
