The dark hair really suites you, with the bangs cut the way they are, you are so striking! I loved everything you bought, eventually I'll look into getting me some shoes too! Also I have to agree with Sharon, the black foe collar, made you into a 1920's movie star!

@@TheClosetHistorian damn I started going grey around your age, bummer, LOL. I am old now but I was totally into vintage in the 70's and had my hair blue black, a color that I carried over into the punk scene. I bought lot's of 40's and 50's pieces at the Los Angeles Rose Bowl and in thrift stores, there was tons of good stuff available in the 70's. I love your look too, I just wish that I had gone full on Louise Brooks when I was younger with a little black bob---those black leather 20's look alike shoes are divine, I have big feet too I would have loved a pair of those, although I did get to wear plenty of original 70's big honking platforms (maybe not so good for me at 5'8.) Have you watched any of the Stitch in Time episodes with Amber Butchart? I have a major girl crush on her and her series is really wonderful.

Great haul. Love your reindeer pins. You placed them perfectly on that adorable cashmere sweater. Two weeks ago I dug around in my jewelry box for the six vintage Christmas tree pins I’ve owned for 20 years but rarely wear. Have been rotating them on my winter coats. They just don’t make pins like that anymore, with such attention to detail and style. Thanks to your prompting of ‘get thee to the thrift store’, I made a first visit to my local Goodwill and stole an exquisite Wilsons leather merlot color jacket for $3.00. I’m totally hooked now, thanks to you!

Love the 1920s shoes, they remind me of what women wore as they marched with the Suffragettes, practical but very feminine and elegant. Love those black leather gloves, I wonder if they were stored in a cedar or sandalwood chest or if the original owner used a sandalwood scented hand cream?? Black clutch bag, beautiful, just refined and very very elegant, I thoroughly enjoy your videos, thank you.

Fabulous buys. With the gloves, you need to hang them outside to air them.Sprinkle ordinary,non-scented baby talcum powder inside and shake to cover.Tip out excess .Then,if your able to,turn the gloves inside out so the lining airs first.Then turn them the right way around and hang on an outside line.Buy large pegs that are not too springy and put a piece of thick fabric,such as black felt,inside the peg before using.This will stop the gloves from being marked.This can take five days inside and out,totalling ten days or more. If it's very sunny cover with a pice of cotton cloth so the gloves don't dry out.If your concerned air indoors but move into different rooms to eliminate the smell. You don't air flat as the air can't circulate the gloves properly.When finished,rub a leather cream into the gloves so they remain supple.I hope this works as they look beautiful.

It (a lot) harder to remove scents from leather and suede gloves, than cotton, nylon and similar material based ones, as a general rule. But you may find that sealing them in a zip-lock bag or other airtight container with a few unscented dryer sheets for a week (or more) can help to lift some of the unwanted scent out. An even more intense option, along the same lines, is to put them in an airtight container (again for at least a few days) with a odour neutralizing "air sponge" type of product (I've even gotten unwanted aromas out of metal jewelry with the latter approach). Wonderful haul! I always jump for joy when you share your latest vintage treasures with us (I'm smitten with that beautiful Coro dove brooch and the super elegant navy pumps).

I had leather gloves that I purchased second hand that reeked of perfume. I filled socks with baking soda and fresh coffee grounds and tucked them inside the gloves and placed the whole thing in a ziplock bag for a few weeks. It removed most of the smell and left the gloves smelling much fresher. I use this technique with thrifted shoes or un-washable items and it works a treat.

What’s funny is I was last night (it’s like 5:20 am now) I was watching this video in Walmart out loud on my phone (because I left my head phones in the car) and I was wearing a late 40sish looking purple skirt and a white turtle neck sweater. With purple eyeshadow, purple scarf, red lips and white circle earrings. My whole outfit wasn’t vintage (expect the earrings and scarf) but it looked vintage. And while I was watching I got a couple stares at my outfit haha. But it really doesn’t bother me because I got like 4 compliments all day from my outfit! Which was super fun! I really love the black smelly gloves 🤣😅 and the lime green ones ..beautiful. I don't know if anyone recommended it in the comments but you could try storing the black gloves in a paper bag with newspaper, as long as you can protect them from the ink, and that can help in pulling sent out of items. some people put things in the freezer, but I don't know what that would do to the leather.

I recently read online, that an effective way to deodorize leather is to put it in a lidded plastic container with six unwrapped bars of Irish Spring soap. I have not tried this yet, but I have a killer 70s embossed leather purse that, sadly, has a killer musty storage smell. Odoban, baking soda, and vodka + water have not worked. I will try and remember to report back. It might help your gloves.

I understand, sometimes I remember to and sometimes I forget. Also, tbh, I don't really want everyone to know how much money I "waste" on vintage when I should be saving, which is the real truth because I really shouldn't be shopping! But I am very weak. The feather brooches here were both under $20, the dress clips were just under $30, the leather gloves were $25, the other gloves were $10 each. I can perhaps try and do a sort of price guide video to outline what I look to pay for various vintage things to help less experienced vintage shoppers!

Those American duchess shoes haunt my dreams, I swear! So beautiful. I'd try to close the offending gloves in a box with those odour absorbing jelly thingies for cabinets (English, Stella!) or even unscented cat litter, it should help reducing the smell. Totally unrelated but, if I can ask for your input, have you ever washed boiled wool? I had a bit of a sound of music fantasy this morning and found a Tyrolese jacket, it's vintage and I think it needs deeper washing than the suggested dry cleaning. If I keep the water reasonably warm and steady I guess I should be fine? Technically it already shrunk, didn't it?
@TheClosetHistorian5 жыл бұрын
I should totally try boxing the gloves up with some baking soda or something, I hadn't thought of that! Sadly I have no experience with washing boiled wool, or any thick coating type fabrics really. I would agree with your assumption, but I'm not sure either!

TheClosetHistorian oh yes, baking soda should do the trick as well! Now that you mentioned it I remembered that I actually use it to clean carpets and faux fur -read somewhere someone used it to clean pets as well, but I can't bring myself to experiment on my furry fiend, lol; anyway, I wonder if you could use it on your corde clutch? I usually pour it on the surface, leave it for a bit and then brush it out. I don't know.
