What about the last gen Toyota Celica GT-S? Reliable, good fuel mileage, look good. They are very light, with good handling that doesn’t understeer like most FF cars. Also, the 1.8 VVT-i w/ lift is a mean engine. Very similar to Honda’s V-tech. Redline is well above 8k. Getting the GT-S is a must; the GT only has 130 horsepower; the GT-S has 180. The entire 50 horsepower gain comes on at once, at around 6,000 rpm, when the “V-tech” valve program kicks in. Tremendously fun, and reasonably quick. Just make sure to get a 6-speed version; the automatic is a 4-speed with tall gearing that really hurts the performance. The manual shift mode takes a good 1-1.5 seconds to react as well. Don’t get the auto if you can help it.

Keep your head up man. Look at it as a blessing; you found out her true nature early on. Had she not been put in a position where she was forced to admit her infidelity, you would have been with this awful person for years, wasting precious time, money, and energy, only to have her likely leave you for another dude and take all of your money in the divorce. Luckily you don’t have children; that would be a huge complication, she’s likely get custody as the mother (and you’d have other dudes raising your child, and it probably wouldn’t have the best of childhoods) would leave you tied to her forever. Your probably still young enough to start over. Your in much better shape than a lot of guys out here, I promise. It’s gonna hurt real bad for a while and be tough to trust people, but go out have some fun, stay busy, meet some new people. Have a few not-so-serious relationships (don’t jump straight into another one), then find a good long-termer. You’ll be alright, it just takes time.

My son got an 08 328i for $3,500, with the 6 spd manual. 180k miles, but Super clean inside and out, black on black with window tint. Great service records (all common failure points done) and well maintained. Got an OBD2 scanner w/BMW software that has come in handy. So far have done the battery and starter; transmission and diff fluid changes. Had bolts come loose on the power steering pulley which caused the serpentine belt to rub/tear and proceeded to rip the wiring on the radiator fan, he caught it before it completely shredded the belt though (that can cause the crank shaft to suck it into the engine). DIY so about $600 (thanks FCP Euro), instead of several thousand $ at a shop. He also put on angel eye headlamp units and blacked out grill and side markers, which makes it look even sharper. Power isn’t crazy but it’s fine for having fun on the backroads. Handles great for spirited driving (compared to domestic/Japanese sedans in that price range). It’s not N54/55 power/fun/modability, but the N52 seems to be a very solid/reliable engine for fun daily driving and not nearly as much maintenance needed as the turbo engines. A lot of car for the money, as long as you’re willing to DIY most maintenance and repairs. Bilstein B8’s and lowering springs might be the next project.

In the past 3 years of owning the AMG & 7 years of the Fiero, neither have never let me down. I love them both. R53 mini cooper. Super charged, 6 speed, nimble as can be, basically a street legal go kart. You can find them all day for under 5k, and then still have money left over for upgrades

I did…. about 10 years ago, were Always advertised as "doesnt start due to minor computer issues" actually, as i come to think of it, they were in almost the same price range as the BMW 840's with the same problem.

This is brilliant. So glad to see that my first car made the list - sort of. I bought a 1987 Maserati Biturbo SI for $4,100 in 2002 and it served as my very unreliable daily driver for 9 months until I had enough... Sold it for a tidy profit...

Hey y'all. Just thought I'd weigh in and give my 2 cents. I live in Central PA and winters here are pretty tough on cars. Old cars in good shape are hard to come by, but you will eventually find one in good shape for the right price. My advice to you is to just take the risk and buy it. When I was 16 I came across a orange 240Z for $5K. It was just like the one in the video and in perfect shape. I passed on it. He also had an unpainted 240 of the same year for $2500 with a roll cage. Passed on that too. Looking back it would have been a good idea to buy them, but it wouldn't place me where I am now. When I was 17 I bought an 84 VW GTi for $2500. Horrible shape. Here, in PA you need to pass state inspection to drive your car on the road. This thing was so far from it and costs thousands of dollars to get it into drive-able shape. It is in the shop right now getting final touches plus an inspection sticker. I've now owned it for 7 years and I have only driven it a handful of times. More recently, I took a huge risk and bought an 86 Toyota MR2 for the right price. It's in WONDERFUL shape and I really got an amazing price for it. It's already inspected and looks clean underneath along with a rebuilt engine. Even though it has cost some money and frustration, I am thrilled to have two collector cars. Anyways, my advice is to take risks and trust God. The right car will show up for the right price, and if you buy it, you will be very happy and never regret it :)

1997-2002 F-body camaros and firebirds, 5.7 ls1 v8, rwd. Ive been finding them for 5k left and right around me. Higher milage manuals, and very good looking automatics. Im surprised no one mentioned those.
