I got married at 18, my husband was 19. We just celebrated 15 years in August. I don't think getting married young is for everyone, but it can definitely work. He is my absolute favorite human on the planet and I'm so so happy with him every day. Everyone thought we were crazy, but we were just crazy about each other!

My husband and I have a shared bank account, but we still have our own separate accounts that we had before getting married. We both set up an automatic deposit into the shared account each paycheck and all the bills are taken out automatically out of that account. So we share all the bill responsibilities while still retaining our financial independence. We don’t have kids though so I assume if/when we do, the only thing that will change is the amount we deposit into the shared account will increase. We think it’s important to work as a team but grow as individuals as well. Most of my friends share bank accounts with their spouses because it’s what everyone else does. But the thing they argue about most is money. So I think every couple should do things in a way that works best for them, rather than the “traditional” way because it’s what everyone else does.
@catgeel2644 жыл бұрын
We also have a shared bankaccount that we use for almost everything, but have kept our 'old' accounts. Our paychecks and everything goes into the shared account, and then we put a small percentage of income into our 'old' accounts as 'pocketmoney'. This way, we have money to spend that we don't need to discuss or argue about. I would never spend much money on electronics for instance and we might have fights about it if he were to spend it from the shared account, but now I can enjoy him being happy with his electronics, as he bought them from his pocket money. I can buy fabrics for sewing whatever I want, it's my pocket money. Etc etc. Saves us a lot of hassle from working with two accounts, and arguements from working with only one account.

I would like to add if it's unhealthy it can BECOME healthy through work and counseling. I know there's extreme cases where you just need to get out but if it's not in that place. I would look into Marriage Team or some kind of couples counseling. Things can get better if both are willing and even if only you make changes, YOU can be happier and healthier even if he doesn't. ❤️ I just care and don't want you to give up if there's a way things can better. For my and my husband Marriage Team changed our marriage and we are incredibly happy.

Super duper common for kids raised in strict Christian communities to marry very young. Sex plays a humongous roll in that and it also means people stay together morbidly unhappy because “we don’t believe in divorce”. Personally I think it’s sad. I was raised in that kind of community and was called and old maid to my face when I was 23 and not married yet. I have no use for that mentality any more in my life.

“You never doubted that you would share” is what you’re trying to say, I think. (There’s no doubt in your mind that you would share)? I think Zach is right when he says “it’s good that we can’t think of the worst fight”. It’s not important to any of us anyways. It is however nice to hear how different couples handle fights and arguments. To me, taking a little time to cool off, and them come back and talk about it, or apologize if you realize you were wrong, works well. Giving each other the silent treatment for days, like my husband and I often did when we were younger, is almost telling the other person that he or she is not worth fixing the issue. I’m so glad we don’t do that anymore. It made us both feel horrible. What you said about Zach, treating everyone, regardless of background, with the same respect, is a wonderful quality, and I fully agree. My dad always made me feel that people who make more money deserve more respect. I struggled with that for many years. I’m confused, you say you’re Mennonites, and that Mennonites are completely different from Christians, but then you say you are Christians.

Love your channel. -I would not take wiping of the mouth personally; but, hubby might turn away or wait to wipe oil/makeup off his face :) -Please consider putting the renovations on hold until the other house is sold; take the stress seriously. Here in the states it is exceedingly rare to buy a house before the other house is sold (most have to purchase contingent on sale). I would rent while selling to avoid the stress of selling and buying at the same time (and I do not usually do things to avoid stress).

Cooling down for an argument was the best advice we received from our pastor before our marriage. Everyone process angry emotions differently and you have to respect that. He explained to us like talk to each other when you are in “green” maybe “yellow” mode but if one of you is in red, you can’t force the conversation to happen. Otherwise you can hurt each other’s feelings without meaning to and after 9 years of marriage and applying this advice since the beginning, we have never yelled at each other or be mean or disrespectful to one another. So the “patching up” becomes an easy thing if that makes any sense. 🙏
