In my experience D2 is hard and holds its sharpness long. But it is prone to chipping. O1 is soft and takes rolls relatively easily. But it won't chip and easy to sharpen. 1095 is similar to O1. A2 is tough and hard at the same time. No prone to chipping or rolling. I love A2 the best. 3V is on hard side and kind of prone to chipping but keeps its sharpness extremely long. S30V is very good like A2. Other SS are like154CM > 12C27 > VG10 > N690 = 420HC > 440C = AUS8. 8Cr13Mov is a crap. Thanks.

@fullamj2 My knife collection history has not been very long. So I have never thought of storing them properly. I just oil them and put them into their sheaths. I am a heavy deer hunter and want to use every my Barkie one another each season. Thanks.

@Surtac100 In Japan the knife EDC is totally forbidden by law, so I keep some knives at my office and home. For everyday utility and an emergent tactical purpose I love SOG Flash2 most. I love RAT1 for game processing very much due to its belly curve and its handle pillar construction. The AUS8 is great. Thanks.

10:52 - "...less pricey stuff is this thing - Bucklite Max - the blade geometry is pretty identical, a bit deeper belly. The handle is well-thought (out) in regular holding, and pinching on the handle, and choking up, gimped, and no edge portion here (on the choil), and this (?) edge is pretty wide, it means pretty small angled edged, and micro-convexed from the factory. KaBar USMC knives have 30 degree primary Saber flat grind and 40 degree secondary V edge. 40 degrees cannot make a sharp edge for comfortable deer dressing. I need 35 degrees at the maximum for my individual purpose. So I ground off all the way from the primary grind starting line to the edge and made a zero grind Scandi bevel. And then I put a micro convex bevel on its very edge line for strength. It made a pretty sharp and durable edge. Thanks.

I don't have Benchmade Rant knife because I personally don't like a rubber handle. I have 2 pieces of 440C fixed blades and I know they don't hold long. Buck 420HC seems better than 440C in my experience. Thanks.

I believe both Edgepro and Wickededge are no good eventually. Manual sharpening on Japanese Chosera water stones and stropping on the Bark River white compound loaded DLT Two Sided Paddle Strop seems by far the better way to get a scary sharp edge. I believe any fixed alignment sharpening systems are prone to straightening the edge curve and shallowing the edge angle on the tip side. Manual sharpening is very easy if people use good stones like Chosera. Cheap stones make it difficult. Thanks.

@Atoschii I have ever owned two of blind horse knives. The one was like a wedge with a low Scandi grind. The other was a beautiful hunting knife with flat bevels but it had a decent useless choil which caught the tissue during skinning. The both knives made decent money for the next knives because their looks was very good. Thank you!

No, I don't. If they didn't have the guard, they would not be stable in the hand. It's because their handle is basically round and has no contour. Their stability is highly depending on the guard in choking up holding. Thanks.

@Lorbera I would choose the Bravo1 in Lignum Vite handle. Bark River A2 convex edge is the most dependable one to me. In them the Bravo1 geometry is the best of the best. The Lignum Vite is different from other wood in feeling in the hand and traction. Of course it's a beauty. I just visited Samekniv. Unfortunately I was not able to find a good one for my individual taste though. Thanks.

@ShinjiCup Due to "2011 production schedule" which you can google out, many Bravo1 will come up soon. It says DLT Trading will have rampless Bravo1 exclusively. But in the US the ramp removal modification will be free of charge at any stocking dealers like KSF or TKC. Thanks.

@DocGDubs I like rampless Gunny, rampless Bravo1, Fox River, BlackJack125 almost evenly. Each knife has each comfort, so I cannot say which is my best exactly. I like Enzo knives very much as well which were temporarily absent in the video. Thanks.

@jedirifleman It's very correct. My familiar gun shop owner says the Remington 700 has many variations and its trigger pull is very cool. He recommends me 30-06 ammo but I personally prefer 308 ammo because of its less shock and more accuracy. I have ever watched many snipers in the war movies were using the 308. Thanks.

@Urudrim I have ever owned the both, though in different periods. And I have ever owned many Barkies with liners and no. The liners can add thickness onto the handle but cannot reduce it. But generally they have the same thickness with or without. I mean the final contour will be made for the same thickness. I basically like no liners because it makes better fit between scales and a tang. Anyway the thickness is a bit different piece by piece. So I personally recommend you no liners. Thanks.

@nvrhaveaniceday That guard doesn't bother me at all. It's a small plate coming from the bolster ring and it stands vertically to the blade. It is similar to KaBar USMC guard and doesn't catch on tissue during skinning at all. Thank you!

@Romanlegionnaire77 No, I haven't. Their knives look pricey and are made of ZDP-189. Some Japanese custom makers like to use that hard steel for some reason. But I don't like hard steels because I like water stone sharpening very much. The ZDP-189 is surely sharpening resistant in my experience. Thank you!

@1616855 I don't like the VG1 very much. It's because I had a bitter experience that it took much rust on its edge and in the space between the tang and the gummy handle. The rust on the edge went chipping and the rust in the space continued leaking rusty water when the knife got wet. It was due to my bad treatment to the knife after deer dressing but since then I have never had a VG1 knife. Thanks.

i really like the design of that last knife, the japanese one! The only thing bothering me about it is the gaurd. Does it tend to dig into your finger or get in the way when you change grips and move around with it? and does it tend to catch on tissue when skinning?

@renattobenavides You will find it at utihamono(.com) > ナイフ. Its name is Outdoor Knife 遊. It will come with a very deep convex bevel on its edge side. So you need to regrind it to a full height convex bevel to make it sharp enough for game dressing. If you need some Japanese style knife, please PM me.
