Dutch viewer here: They are called pepernoten or kruidnoten. Translated meand peppernuts of spicenuts. Pronounced as paypernohtun and kraudnohtun (as close as it gets haha) Dutch people eat them around a celebration called St Nicholas which is on 5th December (I think Belgium and Germany might have it too). I don’t celebrate it but look it up. You’ll find a lot of what is added to Christmas is based on this.

I'e never related so hard to what you said about not sleeping when away from home. I never sleep on work trips Fleur! International or closer to home, it doesn't matter. I, too, should be sleeping like a log as I have a little one and should be taking advantage of getting a full 8 hours, and just can't!

Hi, I’m Dutch and your pronunciation was the best 😂😂. Kruidnoten are one the many sweets eaten at the Holliday of Sinterklaas. Father Christmas is derivative of this saint. Kruidnoten are indeed some sort of gingerbread. Kruiden means spices in Dutch. The originals are just the plain gingerbread drops. In recent years varieties just like you had, and with chocolate have shown up in shops like Van Delft. Personally I like just the plane ones. Looking forward to the jingle!
